About this project

The sky belongs to everybody! We want to make it accessible!

Our aim is to construct the biggest public telescope in Europe and make it available for everybody. The telescope will be located in the Astronomy and Science Centre in the south of Tenerife, Canary Islands, where will be waiting for guests to visit in person and peek through it. What's more, the camera will be constantly attached to the telescope to guarantee online access 24 hours per day, every day!

Wherever you are and whatever time, you will be able to make your own discoveries and space explorations!

There are many great telescopes in observatories and astronomical outposts but since they are used by scientists for greater causes, there is little chance, if any to actually peek through them. What’s more the great telescopes nowadays are not even optical scopes, providing very detailed data but no longer giving the possibility of actually viewing the sky. This is why we ask for your support to construct a great telescope, which purpose will be to give everybody a chance to observe the sky with their own eyes!

The telescope will have a Dobsonian Construction, which is the brightest type, that allows the best quality of optical observations. It’s also a reasonably light construction, thanks to which it will be possible to relocate the telescope if needed.

The telescope will be over 4.5 meter high!

To guarantee the highest resolution and quality of telescope imaging, we made sure we work with the best of the best.

The mirror, we chose for the telescope is the O’Hara E6 40inch glass mirror manufactured by one of the longest standing companies in the whole world - Hampton Controls Inc, and the optician who worked on the mirror is well known in the industry for his previous work including 48inch twin tracking scopes at the observatories at the top of the mountain in Maui, Hawaii, the new James Webb Space Telescope (the replacement for the Hubble Space telescope), the Japanese Subaru telescope, and many others!

The mirror was previously used as the reference mirror for calibrating optical machinery therefore it's quality is unquestionable! Below is the diagram of mirror´s quality as it is now.

The mirror will be receiving a new surface. Here we also searched for the best! H. L. Clausing Inc. from USA, who are already working with NASA gave us the best offer. They will put Magna Brite 96% Enhanced Aluminum coating on our mirror thanks to which the resolution will be unimaginable!

Both companies Hampton Controls Inc. and H. L. Clausing Inc. have shown great interest in bringing astronomy closer to the people and have supported us greatly both by giving us a special price for their service and with their knowledge and interest, for which we are extremely grateful!!

Once the mirror is ready, it will receive a Dobsonian structure with the most up to date tracking system as well as computer equipment, camera and software to make it enjoyable for you to use!

It will be located in the south of Tenerife, the Canary Islands, a place visited by millions of tourists throughout the whole year. This is where we are currently working with bringing astronomy closer to people by organising Stargazing Excursions on the highest level. By providing professional telescopes and driving 2200 meters above sea level to the crater of the Volcano Teide. We are positive the observations we do there give our customers the greatest experiences.

Thanks to this excursion, our company, Travel Tenerife has been chosen World Tour Operator of the Year 2016 and the Luxury Travel Guide have already awarded us a trophy as Tour Operator of the Year 2017 for Spain.

Currently our team of astronomers and astronomy enthusiasts is working on a much bigger project - we are opening, here in Tenerife, The Astronomy and Science Centre, an attraction park dedicated to science, astronomy and space exploration. That is where we will locate The Biggest Public Telescope!

Below the short Milky Way time lapse taken by our team. You can see why Tenerife is one of the darkest places in the World! The light pollution here is second to none and thats why its ideal place for observations!

The project is already in motion and The Astronomy and Science Centre is already organising activities with a 16inch telescope, that came to us from Cambridge Astronomy Institute, but to be able to bring the sky to everybody, we need YOUR help!

Thanks to YOUR pledges we will be able to construct the great telescope itself! Not only that - also make it available worldwide by constant online uploading.

Pledge now and be the first to receive unlimited online access to the telescope!
CHECK REWARD #1

Want to operate the telescope all by Yourself? Get 2 hours online session during which You can decide where to point the telescope!
CHECK REWARD #2

Ever considered holidays on Tenerife? Get Your own private session with the telescope!
CHECK REWARD #3

See the Universe for yourself any time you want to! Search for distant planets and galaxies! Make your own discoveries!

Because the sky belongs to us all!

With YOUR help we will be able to construct the telescope before the end of the year and not long after start sending online live view to all those that made this project come true.

Risks and challenges

Our team has all the risks covered and we do not expect significant problems. The mirror as well as new surface are booked for us. If there are no significant delays with shipping the elements to Tenerife, we are positive everything will proceed as planned. We expect the telescope to be ready by the end of the year but taking into consideration possible delays in shipping, we offer to send You images and give You access a little later (January-March). If there will be no problems, we will be able to start sending the images sooner than we panned!
