The Hive is a new round based First-Person-Looter-Shooter set in an NPC-filled, devastated world. The Hive combines competitive FPS and RPG elements to deliver a unique experience. A mix of online multiplayer combat, boss fights and events that change with every new major content update.

Discover new areas, collect gear, improve your character and try to make it out alive! If you die, you’ll not only lose what you gathered during this round, but also what you brought with you into this world. Make it out alive and use your new and improved gear to dominate our weekend only competitive PVP mode!


What you can expect from THE HIVE

All of us remember the time when we used to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's a game, that even after a decade, is actively being played and modded. That speaks for itself and the quality of the game. We loved it for its atmosphere and immersive world. Sure it had its flaws but overall was one of the games that stuck with us. Same goes for Hunt: Showdown and its immersive and realistic environment as well as fantastic sound and creature design. We also took a lot of inspiration from the SCP Foundation and its universe.

All these games and stories hit certain spots we loved and so the desire to create something that contains all of these aspects we loved and more, grew. Character progression is one of the aspects our game focuses heavily on. Same goes for a meaningful and competitive endgame. 

THE HIVE is made with the intention to immerse the player in its world and deliver a unique mix of RPG, PVP and PVE through quests, player interaction, different enemies, character progression and our weekend only competitive game mode.

Cross-Platform Play will be supported so you and your friends can roam together.

 All game footage is WIP and subject to change. 





 Key aspects of  the game

  • Action filled Gameplay

Other players are not the only thing you need to worry about. Besides patrolling NPC militia you will encounter far more dangerous enemies.

On one side we have the Military troops, which will appear every game. These groups are made up of different smaller units and occasionally a single taugher unit which acts as a leader, for example a heavily armored soldier surrounded by weaker units or a sniper who fires at you with a high caliber "PDHSP" sniper rifle. If you're unprepared they can pose a considerable challenge to you and your team.

On the other side we have folklore creatures, which take the role of a big boss and are extremely rare. These types of bosses differ from map to map and are the most dangerous enemies besides other players. They will appear when you expect them the least.

  • Every season a new map!

Our goal is to create handcrafted landscapes which are not only immersive but also well designed. We will be there for leveraging Houdini’s procedural tools as well as Quixel’s Megascans library in order to efficiently and quickly iterate on new maps. These workflows will allow us to recreate real life landscapes in a timely manner. Fixed sized maps will make it possible to offer you a new map every 1 - 2 months and thus a varied and refreshing game experience. Explore a huge abandoned cargo ship or investigate abandoned amusement parks. We will guarantee you a diverse map pool!





  • Define your own playstyle

How you approach the game is up to you. As a more aggressive player you can fight battles in close distance by putting on heavy armor and building a customized SMG. A more reserved player would perhaps prefer to get an overview of his surroundings and start battles with a slight advantage. Equip yourself with a sniper rifle and a light armor, increase your damage output with necessary components and eliminate your targets from a long distance.

You’ll be able to define your own unique playstyle due to different perks, attachments, components, armors and weapons.

Besides armor and weapon customization we will have a skill system in place that will allow you to progress even further in building your ideal character and playstyle. Professions such as engineering, scouting and paramedic will unlock unique abilities and perks. Gadgets like steerable drones and other electronic gadgets require an advanced skill level in engineering. Same goes for scouting and paramedic, which will have unique items and abilities to enhance your specific build.

But we want to go further. Not only should your playstyle be unique, your character should be too. Even if you can’t see yourself in-game, other players can. A big variety in our character customization and the option to combine different skins with each other should give you the freedom you want.

  • Skillsystem:

Every playstyle has its weak spots. It will be up to you to discover and avoid them by advancing in a wide array of skills that will unlock skill specific passive and active abilities. Besides armor and weapon customization we will have a skill system in place that will allow you to progress even further in building your ideal character and playstyle. Professions such as engineering, scouting and paramedic will unlock unique abilities and perks. Steerable drones and other electronic gadgets require an advanced skill level in engineering. Same goes for scouting and paramedic which will have unique items and abilities to enhance your specific build.

  • Realism to a certain point

It’s extremely important to us to see the project as a game and not as a military simulator. The focus is on having a balanced and fun experience instead of being as realistic as possible. With that said, we want to make the game as immersive as we can while not breaking it.

  • Bring your favorite weapon into the battle

A wide collection of different weapons from large sniper rifles to small SMGs will allow you to find your preferred weapon. The hive will feature real world firearm types. Different wear levels will dictate the condition and effectiveness of your weapon. Wear levels are visualized through imperfections on the weapon surface. Factory new firearms are very rare compared to used ones.

  • Research, craft and modify your weapon

THE HIVE sets a strong emphasis on weapon customization. We will allow the player to swap out every weapon component and attachment in order to create a weapon that suits the players preferred playstyle in each situation. No matter if it's a fast paced close corner or long distance stealthy approach, your weapon will support it as long as the needed attachments and components are available to you.

In order to craft complete weapons out of found weapon parts, you first need to find a complete type of that weapon and then research it. When crafting, the wear level of the components used dictate the wear level of the final crafted weapon. When researching, the wear level of the researched weapon, doesn't matter you can still craft the factory new model if you have the factory new parts for it. These parts as well as the weapon can be upgraded through scrap metal.

Scrap metal is obtained by scraping weapons, attachments and components as well as other various metal items.

  • Armor pieces

Single armor parts will not only change your appearance, but also define how many hits you can take, how fast you move and how much stamina you spend while running. The respective stats will inform you about the weight, weak spots, stamina costs and its “wear” state. Combine different armor pieces such as chest plate, boots, shoulder-plates, leg-guards, arm-guards and many more, in order to create the best balance for yourself.

  • Looting system

Everything you find on your way through the world can be kept if you make it out alive. Retrieve the items you found during a game in order to add them to your inventory/collection and use them in the next game to gain an advantage over your opponents. But be careful, if you die you will not only lose what you gathered, but also what you brought with you. To prevent losing your equipment, there’ll be an option to buy insurance in the form of a token for different amounts of in-game currency. Said currency can be earned by trading on the market or fulfilling different tasks and contracts set up by other players or Organizations.

  • Clans and Squads

Playing on your own can get boring sometimes, that's why we want to bring the community together through our clan and squad system. A player can join a clan and at the same time be part of a squad. Clans are large formations of players which function as an internal ecosystem where items, gear and weapons can be traded and stashed.  Squads on the other hand are 4 man premade groups which compete in our competitive weekend only mode.

A clan can consist of multiple squads and therefore have multiple squads representing the clan on the leaderboards. All clans and squads will have unique names. We also have a very special feature planned for the clan system, if the required stretch goal for it is reached.

  • A fair market system

Each player will have the opportunity to offer everything they found on the market, at a price of their choosing. With that we intend to create a self-regulating platform, offering prices everyone can agree with. Instead of having to farm a specific item for your build, you’ll be able to buy whatever is needed if you can afford it.

  • Rare shops

Visit the rare shops scattered around the map to buy exclusive items that can’t be found elsewhere. These shops won't be open every game and in order to access them, you’ll need an access card or key which can only be obtained by defeating certain enemies or finding them.

  • Weekend League

Compete with other players every weekend and show them what you got! Bring the gear you previously farmed, try to survive and come out as a winner. The “Weekend League” will be our competitive PvP mode, which only allows one player/team to leave the match alive. The winner earns the participation fee which every player has to pay at the start of each round. Choose between different stakes which will not only give you a chance on higher rewards but also lets you earn more points in order to climb the ladder. The ”Weekend League” is a weekend exclusive game mode. Lock in your preferred gearset until friday evening in order to participate in it.

Organic looking proceduraly generated large maps

The Hive is set on medium to large open maps. You will start the game by creating your loadout and a spawn point. Each player will be equipped with an electronic device, which can be upgraded with different “modules”. These devices are needed in order to extract from the game, as well as when upgraded to locate specific items you are currently looking for. Collect weapons, armor, perks and miscellaneous items in order to defend yourself against other players, patrolling troops/militia, and folklore creatures. These creatures will appear randomly in some games. Indicators for such an event are changes to the environment or the malfunctioning of certain equipment. These creatures will drop unique items that have paranormal abilities and an extremely high value on the underground market. For example a key that has coordinates engraved in it which change every day. Every door in near proximity of these coordinates can then be opened with that key. Figuring out where those coordinates are, is one of the many puzzles the player has to solve.

The more time you spend gathering and fighting, the more difficult and dangerous the extraction is going to be due to an always declining amount of extraction zones. In order to extract you have to receive a designated extraction zone by using your electronic device. This will indicate a spot on the map where you need to go in order to leave. These spots are randomly generated.


The game takes place in a world where folklores and legends are part of the reality. Areas previously full of life are now abandoned and uninhabitable due to the risk of encounters with hostile folklore creatures. If the state fails to contain the creature, the area gets evacuated and defined as an exclusion zone. Many people have lost their belongings and jobs. With these circumstances a new group started to slowly form called “breachers” which risk their life in order to ransack and fight for resources. Big companies started to move out their troops as well, in order to claim these regions for themselves and take over the newly created market.

You as a player take up the role of a Breacher and try to survive in this harsh environment.

As longtime FPS veterans and competitive players, it is our goal to create a new game, which takes its distance from futuristic as well as past time inspired games and brings back the current modern warfare, with uniquely crafted environments, smoothly animated characters and clean gunplay. To achieve these goals, we need a large amount of 3D assets and animations. We therefore decided to transfer some of these tasks to our partner "Virtuos", a large 3D art contractor. This allows us to work faster without spending too much time introducing a lot of new members to our project until we have a stronger foundation.

We are therefore asking this community for help. Not only to financially support us, but also to help us create a game which will fit everyone's standards. With that said, we would love to listen to your thoughts and opinions, when introducing new stuff to the game. The more feedback we get, the better.

Once funded we will immediately kick off the art production with Virtuos. Besides that we will continue refining and developing our current build as well as adding new features. Our community will accompany us, every step of the way. We will constantly post updates and listen to desired features and changes from our community.

We therefore are developing a platform through which the community can discuss all features and updates regarding the development. Every user can vote, add solutions or suggestions to features as well as comment about each update we release. Backers will have a higher exposure and prioritization on the platform. 

We want to be as transparent as possible. Without the help of this community we wouldn’t be able to create the game we crave and dream of. It’s only fair to provide you with as much information as we can. We will therefore release a new video once a month covering the development process in depth with tutorials on certain topics as well as weekly blog posts about our ongoing progress.







We are a team with members from Switzerland and Germany currently developing The Hive. Most of us have a strong background in software engineering and we've been playing games our entire life. Progression has always fueled us to achieve more and more be it in competitive games or technology. Unreal Engine has been our home for the last 4 years with all of us gaining in depth knowledge regarding game engines, game development, 3D art and workflows.

The currently estimated date of release might be exceeded, due to "Virtuos" needing more time to develop all the assets.
