Help us hold a historic tour of Laotian American writers across the Midwest!
We have all-new, original works of Laotian American poetry and literature, along with a visual arts and multimedia exhibit of the Laotian journey as we celebrate over 36 years in the US!
Almost half a million Laotians are adding new traditions and ideas to the American tapestry. We have amazing stories and dreams to share with you as we trek across 1,100 miles in America together.
From the Realm of a Million Elephants to adventures in Cheesehead Country and the Motor City, we're bringing a great show! We want to start between September and October this year.
Scheduled cities include Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Elgin, and Ann Arbor if we reach our funding goal, and hopefully many spots in between!
The more money we raise, the more cities we can add, especially cities that never saw professional Lao writers and artists perform before.
As you can see on our route below, there's a lot of places we hope we can stop and visit.
In addition to our one-hour performances in each city, we're also providing free classes on art to tap into your creativity and share the story of your families and community: Where it's been and where it's going!
In each city we also bring with us a special one-day exhibit of the work of several modern Laotian artists including an incredible photographic introduction to Laotians from coast to coast.
On the road, we're scouting for new emerging Laotian and Asian American artists and writers to help bring out their voices in the new Laotian American renaissance!
We want to amaze and energize new audiences for Laotian American arts, culture and community on this tour! And you can help!
This year Laos In The House! features:
Catzie is a Laotian American writer and member of the spoken word duo Yellow Rage, who appeared on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam in 2001 and performs across the country. She teaches at the acclaimed Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia and has shared the stage with Ursula Rucker, Refugee Nation, Sarah Jones, Beau Sia and I Was Born with Two Tongues among many others.
Mooks is an award-winning Laotian American poet and playwright who blends surrealism with hip hop and a no-holds-barred take on Lao American history. She supports women and artists across the country to celebrate heritage, diversity, social justice and community voice including her talent showcase Operation: Gynocracy.
Bryan Thao Worra is the only Laotian American to hold a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature. He also has a Many Voices Fellowship of the Playwrights Center, and a Leadership Award from the State Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans. He uses science fiction and Laotian traditions to bring new directions to world literature. From zap guns to Secret Wars and sticky rice to fuzzy logic, you have to see it to believe it!
Help us make this historic trip together, and thank you for your support!
