About

Hi everyone!

My name is Marina Shron and The Fruit of Our Womb is my first feature film as a Writer Director.

The film is a behind-closed-doors look at the life of an affluent Manhattan couple and a homeless teenage girl (Christina) who they rescue from the streets and take into their world.  It is the story of an instant family -one that starts as a utopian dream, blossoms, but then degenerates into a nightmare just as suddenly as it formed.

I’ve been writing and making films with strong female themes for many years, and I've been fortunate to receive support for my work from The Foundation for Contemporary Art, New York Foundation for The Arts, Jerome Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation among others.

The Fruit of Our Womb is a project I have been working on for a while and have taken through several incarnations: from an award-winning play, to a short film, to a screenplay. Despite the excitement that the screenplay has generated, the nature of the material has made turning this film into reality a challenging task. It’s not an easy sell - a social parable set in a society where child sex abuse is at once the biggest taboo, the terrifying reality, and the most lucrative enterprise.

Today I am finally ready to bring this project to life on my own terms.

We, the creative team behind the film, are determined to bring this unapologetic story to light the way it was always meant to be made – independently.

“I felt like an animal, and animals don’t know sin, do they?”
                 ― Jess C. Scott

Demo Shoot (2019)

Christina is a 13-year-old sexually fluid orphan who has grown up trading sex for love and protection. Her chance meeting with an affluent Manhattan couple turns out to be a stroke of luck when she is welcomed into their home.

Desperate to round out their perfect existence with a child of their own, Lynn and Joe are not without their share of demons. Still, they offer Christina everything she’s ever dreamed of. And she gives them what they need – the joy of parenting. But for all their longing, Christina has never developed relationships where affection was free from sexual desire. Lynn's obsession with motherhood has never been tested and Joe cannot forget how he found Christina: turning tricks on the street. Before long, parental affection and sexual desire begin to merge.  And when the illusion of innocence is shattered, Lynn devises a new plan to see her dream made reality. She elevates Christina's role in the family from "daughter" to "lover" and then to "mother-to-be" of her real child, thus triggering Christina's dark journey of self-discovery.

Christina is the heart of the film. She is no ordinary teenager. Innocent and manipulative, ethereal and lethal, she is a child whose experiences have already made her a woman discovering the world by touch.

Though Christina herself is unique, her tale, unfortunately, is not.  Her story represents that of not just one, but of countless children, whose experiences remain society’s shameful secret.  We refuse to believe that events like this can happen in a first-world country like ours.  But not only do they happen – they happen with staggering frequency.

Demo Shoot (2019)
Demo Shoot (2019)

This film has never been as relevant as it is today.  At its core, this is a story of a child who is betrayed – but also demonized – by the very people who took it upon themselves to protect her.

I was deeply affected by the #MeToo movement, which has changed public conversations about what was once considered “women’s issues.” With this film, I hope to inform and progress this conversation further.

I truly believe that, as women, we have the power and responsibility to affect the change we want to see in the world – not just for ourselves but for our children.

I am making this film in the hope that it will be a wake up call for all of us.

We plan to start pre-production in New York in early Summer 2019, with a shoot start date in Autumn 2019.

I am excited to be working on this film with an incredible team of collaborators (featured on this page). Our goal for the next 3 months is to fully cast the film, secure locations, and get ready for pre-production!

The money raised through this Kickstarter campaign will help us achieve these goals. More specifically, the money will go towards the salary of our casting director, securing stellar actors for the lead roles, as well as the salaries of our Production Designer and pre-production crew (location manager, line producer, DP).

These funds will also allow us to unlock the bigger finance and distribution for the film.

Here is how the first goal will be spent:

The Fruit of our Womb has already touched many people, not only in the US but many other countries and in the last few months we have engaged over 600 followers on our social media channels - Facebook and Instagram @TFOOW. We intend to grow our audience via digital channels to raise awareness and get our movie released far and wide.
