Textile Arts Center is the place to be for fiber arts. Located in Gowanus, Brooklyn, the Center provides classes, workshops and special events for adults and kids in weaving, screen printing, knitting, sewing, felting, embroidery, and more.
The Center aims to be exactly that -- a center for all with interest in textiles, sustainability, DIY, and fine art. "Center" implies community, and our goal is to serve everyone interested through multiple programs such as free After School classes for underserved youth, public art projects, guest lectures and demonstrations, and artist residencies.
We've moved to a beautiful new space and are working to fully equip the studios and create a gallery for fiber artists and students. Our goals are big and we'd like you, our community, to be involved.
To aid in raising funds for such programs, we've obtained Fiscal Sponsorship through Fractured Atlas (http://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/fiscal/profile...) This Sponsorship allows Textile Arts Center to act much like a not-for-profit -- accepting tax-deductible donations and applying for grants. However, in order to begin applying for grants we must first raise $1000, showing support and demand for such programs. This is where you come in!
So, our first Kickstarter campaign is the Jump Start. With this $1000 proof of your support, we will put it directly toward equipping the studio. After this, the possibilities are endless!
Thank you in advance for your support!
