About this project
The Tessel Jet Pack was a finalist in the IDSA International Design Excellence Awards 2013 competition.
The reflective Jet Pack is now available.
After a year of sketching, ideation, experimentation, sewing up prototypes, and refinement we're ready to manufacture the Jet Pack. We need your help to reach the minimum order quantity that our manufacturers require of us.
Your pledge makes it possible for these bags to be produced.
The Jet Pack has two compartments: the primary zipper opens up into the main volume of the bag and the front zipper opens up into a smaller front pocket.
The Jet Pack's interior includes a faux fur lined laptop compartment, an iPad sleeve and places for pens and pencils.
We've prototyped an all-black version and an all-reflective-silver version of the Jet Pack. We're hoping that our manufacturers will allow us to place an order for both black and reflective. However, right now we can only offer the all-black version, but stay tuned for updates on the reflective version.
Make sure to like us on Facebook for a chance to win a free Jet Pack if we hit our funding goal.

Risks and challenges
In the pictures above are the bags that we have made ourselves. These prototypes show that the design is executable and that it can be manufactured. We are currently working with manufacturers to create production quality samples. The main challenge has been for manufacturers to reproduce the same effect in the laminated triangle facets as what we were able to achieve in our studio.
Due to the lead time that comes with the manufacturing process, there will be a few months from when we hit our funding goal to when you will receive your Jet Pack. As soon as the goal is reached, we will give the manufacturers the "go ahead" to start creating the necessary tooling.
Once our campaign is complete, we'll place the order for the first batch of Jet Packs. Hopefully, once you hold the Jet Pack in your hands, you'll feel like the wait was worth it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes we are! For the options that say "US only" go ahead and say you're in the US, Kickstarter doesn't allow us to adjust pledge information if people have already pledged in that category. We'll know where to ship when we collect shipping information.
We've factored shipping in the US into our different pledge amounts. If you're a friend of ours in Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, Africa or wherever please add $20 to your pledge to take care of the rest of the shipping costs.
Our friends in Canada should add $15 to their pledges.
If you're international and are pledging to the "Double Feature" option, please add $30.
The Jet Pack is 11" wide and 16" tall. A 13" or 15" MacBook Pro will fit in no problem.
The Jet Pack's main bag volume is around 12.5 L.
Yes! We will be using a coated nylon that is waterproof.
If we hit $40,000 we can offer the reflective version. Plan on adding $10 more for the reflective version of the bag (price points are described in our 3rd update).
At the end of our funding (first week of June), we will send a survey out through Kickstarter that will help us collect shipping information as well as color choice (if that becomes available). So you don't need to worry about us knowing where to send the bag until our campaign is complete.
We're already working on improving the comfort and ergonomics of the shoulder straps from our prototype.
Waterproof zippers are something we've considered, and as we get more orders we have a greater ability to increase the quality of this product. We'll send updates as things progress.
