Themes in Lunatics - #2 "Pioneering with Press Coverage"
We're continuing to introduce some of the themes we're working into the series. Here's number two:
Theme #2 Pioneering with Press CoverageScience fiction writers had imagined the first landing on the Moon. Some even imagined it nearly the way it actually happened. But no one predicted that it would be on live television. Communication technology means we are much more observed and much more public than ever before. The frontier, by its very remoteness, has historically meant isolation -- explorers and pioneers had to function on their own, and they were not accountable to an audience. It may take three days to get a person to the Moon, but it takes only about a second and a half for light to get there. Our space pioneers will remain immersed in our media culture. How will that affect them?
