This project is about STL-files for two different buildings, the fantasy viking building and the sci-fi armored barracks. STL-files are what you feed into your home 3D printer (very simplified). You download the files and can then start printing right away. If you want to scale them down or up or modify them, you can do that, and then print them. Print as many as you like, and give them different paint schemes to fit different game boards.
Both buildings are modular. This means that you print several different sections and combine them into more varied complete buildings. Right now both buildings have two ends and a middle section. Go check them out right now. Add as many middle sections as you like to get a longer building. If the project is funded more parts will be available. The more stretch goals that are unlocked, the more different pieces will be modeled.
Almost all parts will be able to print without supports else built in support is an option. All of them are split to allow them to be printed on a print bed around 150x150mm. Most of them fit on smaller print beds.
Note about the viking add-on
If you add 100 sek to your pledge, you will get the Viking village accessories add-on. I will handle everything manually after the campaign and talk to you if I'm not sure what you want.
Convert SEK to USD
Do you want to know how much those pledges cost in USD? One USD is worth rougly 9 SEK today. Google is very easy to use for currency conversion. Simply type "200 SEK to USD" or similar to get your answer. But remember, this is an estimate and not a solid fact, currencies change.
There are two main pledges for this kickstarter project. Vikings get the Viking village. Space troopers get the Sci-fi armored barracks. Also, there is the Space viking, that gives you both. If you are early, there is the Early space viking bird that gives you a discount, available in limited number.
If you don't own a 3D printer there are two pledges to buy my test prints. These are the Space invader and the Jarl.
Also, if you want to fit the sci-fi barracks to your theme, you can also pledge to have me model some extra symbols and/or greebles for you. You can choose to let me release them for free, or keep them to yourself. These are the Sci-fi symbol set and Exclusive sci-fi symbol set.
A note about images
When I present my main goals and stretch goals, these images are sketches, not the final models. The models are not done yet but will be done with your support. I have supplied renders to give you some hint of the final product.
Pledge - Viking
This pledge gives you all Viking models as downloads, base goals as well as stretch goals. The files will be given in .stl-format to be 3D printed anywhere you like.
These buildings fit in the theme of vikings, rohirrim or other iron age or early medieval cultures. The viking village has several pieces available for free already. This project will expand the number of parts for the building and other terrain details fitting the theme.
The base goal will include a reworked set of this building including interior, more detailed stonework and some improvements for the print. The rework will only be available for paying customers. The original will remain on thingiverse.
The base goal will also include these models:
Viking stretch goals
I have lots of extra models planned for stretch goals. I will take input from backers regarding priority. This is my old plan. Check out update #5.
Pledge - Sci-fi armored barracks
This pledge gives you all sci-fi armored barracks models as downloads, base goals as well as stretch goals. The files will be given in .stl-format to be 3D printed anywhere you like.
These buildings fit in the theme of any dystopic or hard sci-fi or space opera game. I won’t mention any specific games but strap on your shoulder pads and unholster that DL-44. The armored barracks have several pieces available for free already. This project wil expand the number of parts for the building.
The main goal includes a complete rework of this model. It will be more customizable with fewer seams. Also, it will be easier to include more versions in the future. The reworked version will only be available for paying customers. The original will remain on thingiverse.
The main goal also include:
Sci-fi armored barracks stretch goals
I have lots of extra models planned for stretch goals. I will take input from backers regarding priority. This is the old plan. See update #5.
I will deliver all final models through a service that allows big files to be sent from me and then downloaded by each of you. This service will be able to hold the files for a long time for you to download (if not forever). The files delivered will be in STL-format. Both the viking village and the sci-fi armored barracks will get a manual on how to print, assemble and paint them. Manuals can be in PDF, HTML or youtube format.
By pledging on this kickstarter, you agree to the following conditions.
- You may print as many items as you want.
- You may give printed items away.
- You may not sell printed items on a large scale*.
- You may not sell or give away the STL-files.
*If you glue them, paint them pretty and put them on a base with flock, it is your work as much as mine and you may then sell them. But you may not sell prints straight from the printer. If you are unsure, contact me. I am sure we can work something out.
With the money I can take some time off my regular work. This is almost all that is needed. I already have sufficient computing power and two 3D printers. Some money will go into filament and resin, but not that much. If I do well I will probably invest in a bigger monitor to be able to work more efficiently.
My name is Markus Kruse and I am a 41 years old IT worker. I have had 3D modeling as a hobby for more than 20 years. The last five years I have been using blender 3D, what an amazing piece of software that is. I have been a wargamer for almost that long. I have played Necromunda, various historical games, Warmachine and Mercnet (a home made game of mech combat similar to battletech).
Risks and challenges
The only risk I see for me not to complete this is of personal nature. I am only one person and if I die in a car accident or get a stroke, you will not get any models. I have a pretty good health and I drive quite safely. I have two good computers and use only free programs to work on this.
If I suffer some kind of personal crisis the models might be delayed. I don’t expect anything of that kind. I have a very loving and supporting family that allow me plenty of time in front of the screen when I need it.
If the project does very well, there will be lots of stretch goals for me to model. It might be challenging for me to fit it in my free time when I have to get back to work. In that case, models will be delivered when they are ready and the pace might slow down when I have to get back to my regular work. I manage to deliver lots of models to thingiverse.com, even when I am working full time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
