Got my Vektron last night, just took it out. Smooth and comfortable ride, still 4 bars on battery after 22 miles. Love it!

@Tim Rezgalla The discount codes are meant for the backers who pledged enough for Vektron bikes. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

    10. Tim Rezgalla am January 15

When will we be able to get our discount codes for your goodies in store? I'm already eying up a few bits lol ;)

Just writing to say hi, and we are psyched to see this come to market.

    17. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 17, 2016

@Eric We completed our test. 80 rpm on fairly level ground in gear 8-9 would probably keep you between 18.5 - 19.5 mph. In top gear (10th) your cadence would have to be around 72 rpm. However, the true answer depends on so many factors like your weight, the riding mode, the incline/decline, your strength, road conditions etc. Hope this helps.

    18. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 16, 2016

@Eric You're probably not going to ride much in the top gear unless you're going downhill or have a super strong tailwind. If you want to go 20 mph in the 8th or 9th gear, your cadence will need to be about 72 to 80 rpm. We're going to test this now; will get back to you when we're done.

      Eric am November 15, 2016

I'm a little concerned about the gearing. In the top gear how fast would your cadence need to be to reach 20mph?

    20. Tim Rezgalla am November 10, 2016

Thanks for the update, eyeing up your tasty wares now & look forward to receiving the codes!
      Cheers tern :)

I can't wait to test-ride the Vektron in the spring! My last ebike was an A2B Metro and I'm expecting a much more reliable ride this time.

    22. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 4, 2016

@ Tim Rezgalla: We will ship out the perks around the first week of Dec. Yes, we can provide tracking numbers for backers who request it. We'll be sure to do that for you.

    23. Tim Rezgalla am November 3, 2016

Congrats on reaching your goal! Are the perks going out soon by any chance & will we be able to track them, etc? I just wouldn't want to be away,& at mo all I know is the November date given on those perks...
      Thanks tern
      =)

    24. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 2, 2016

@ Alexis C Jémus: Thanks for your suggestions. We will get them to our product development team. They are currently working on a product roadmap for the Vektron that will include additional models. Based on your feedback, we think you'll like their thinking. However, any additional models won't be available here on Kickstarter and wouldn't be in shops until the spring of 2018.

Ok, i dont want to troll here, but i just can't not say it. If you could put a Nuvinci with there Harmony H sync that would be just SICK. I just cant stop thinking about it. Automatic transmition on a electric tern verge. I just cant think of something more complete! i know that it would bring up the cost and weight of the bike, but it would give so much more ease to it. It would bring it to a level to look like your awesome S8i or S11i.

      http://www.nuvincicycling.com/en/products/harmony-h-sync.html

On a last note, you did put a lock system option on the new S27h, even if that could look weard for a lot of people that are not use to have rear weel lock, it was really a neat idea. I have to put tierap to have mine stick in place... That would really be a good think to add for additionnal security.

I just made a bit more research and i could see that boch offer some internal gear support !
      https://www.bosch-ebike.com/en/components/eshift/

    27. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 1, 2016

@ Alexis C Jémus: Glad you like the Vektron. Technically, you can swap in an internal gear hub but note that the Bosch motor is optimized for a derailleur and any modifications to the bike of this nature would void the warranty. Let us know if you have any other questions.

      Hi!
It it really nice to see this project! I use a tern bike and i love it a lot! I thought a lot about getting a bionx electric system BUT i also REALLY want to be able to put a rear internal alfine system. So i wonder do you see anything that would prevent to change the rear gear to fit an internal gear system? ( Like the S8i ) It would then be a really expensive bike but :P i think it would worth it!

    29. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am November 1, 2016

Our max load weight limit is in line with other folding bikes, such as Bike Friday (max 230 lb) and Brompton (max 242 lb).

In theory, the limit could be higher but we want some extra safety margin because we find that people often ignore our advice to not take the bike off road, jump curbs, ride down stairs, etc. If people do this, the weight load needs to be less.

The rider's height is also a factor. If you're tall (e.g. 6’ 6”) and over the weight limit, it creates more stress on the bike. Someone who is average height would be fine if they're a little over, as long as they stick to pavement and don’t ride off curbs, down steps, etc.

"Max Load Weight (Rider + Cargo) ------ 230lb" That's a lot less than I would have expected. Makes it unusable to transport my child.

Time for a T-shirt....to let everyone know how I'll be rollin' come Spring!

    32. Jaladhi Pujara am October 21, 2016

Can you guys create a reward for the Kanga rack?

    33. Rodney Hunt am October 21, 2016

Just doubled my pledge for 2 X Tern Ride Pocket, thanks, Rod ( Australia )

    34. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am October 20, 2016

Dennis, a quick follow up... please note that airlines will not allow you to board with a lithium ion battery of this size. If you'd like to fly with your bike, we suggest you plan ahead and ship your battery separately to your destination.

    35. Tim Rezgalla am October 20, 2016

Love the tee too,& the whole story of tern,am currently on a Dahon speed 7,nice little bike tho hard up hills...I shall keep a keen eye on your extras-looks like most will fit fine!
      Good luck Mr Hon!& tern

    36. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am October 20, 2016

Dennis, we sent you a more detailed direct message but you can remove the seatpost+saddle (2.5 lb), battery (5.5 lb) and rear rack (2 lb + weight of the rear light).

I would like to travel with this and the transporter mini bag offered on your website is 7.2kg (15.9lbs). According to (http://ebiketips.co.uk/content/reviews/electric-bikes/first-ride-tern-elektron-426), the Vektron is going to be around 21kg (46.3 lbs), for a combined weight of 28.2kg (62.2lbs). Most airlines seem to adopt a policy that charges for bags over 22.67kg (50lbs).
Is there a way to reduce the weight by 6kg (~13lbs) to transport in another bag?
I imagine the battery and seat can be easily removed and fit in another bag, would this be enough or will it just not be practical with the transporter mini bag?

    38. Jaladhi Pujara am October 20, 2016

It might be too early to think about stretch goals but I'd love to have the option of getting the bike in white or other colors.

    39. just Curtis am October 19, 2016

I've got enough water bottles anyways but I really love the design of that shirt that Mr. Hon was wearing, I like to show the guys at work that there are better ways to commute. Size 3X please!

    40. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am October 19, 2016

Right now, we don't have t-shirts but if there's enough demand, we'll see what we can do. Not interested in the water bottle? It's a nice one!

    41. just Curtis am October 19, 2016

How about a t-shirt, since you won't ship to Canada?

    42. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am October 19, 2016

Jaladhi... yes, the Kanga Rack definitely works with the Vektron. You'll need to use the Tern Luggage Truss to connect it to the bike.

    43. Jaladhi Pujara am October 19, 2016

Would the Kanga rack work with this bike?

    44. Tern Bicycles Projektgründer am October 19, 2016

Jaladhi... yes, you can use the 500 Wh Bosch PowerPack on the Vektron.

    45. Jaladhi Pujara am October 19, 2016

If I have the Bosch 500W battery from another bike, can I use it on this bike?

    46. Emanuele Trapanese am October 19, 2016

Really like the bike, but USA Shipping only??
