I can honestly say my Tarot book is a unique contribution to the body of literature on this profound object. I wanted to not just write about it in a way no one ever had but to explore it and yes, even expand on it in new ways as well.
The solution was to approach the Tarot as what it is, an ancient relic we can never fully understand but can continually explore. When archaeologists find a mysterious temple, they measure it, compare it to similar structures and then try to explain what they've found. So that’s what I did with this archaic temple of paper.
Here are some things that are firsts for a Tarot book at least to the best of my knowledge…
- Calculated odds associated with every spread possible (measure).
- Demonstration of how Tarot manages, even if accidentally, to synthesize underlying worship and meditation methods from world history (compare).
- Creation of a visually intensive and imaginatively demanding manner of card reading, providing readers with an additional method to search the images for meaning (explore). So many visually oriented people are drawn to Tarot. Why not invent a way to use that part of our mind creatively instead of just receptively when reading the cards?
I sum up my thesis about Tarot with the phrase archaeology of self, architecture of heaven. Finally, the book tries to share that and everything above in a short and readable work that is not limited to any one Tarot school of thought (explain).
Tarot: Temple of Paper, House of Cards was released in electronic form in July of this year. That alone cost money, money I did not have. Bills aside, that was very gratifying yet it cannot sit on someone's bookshelf which is my ultimate dream. A little financial help is needed to make a physical version a reality. This project is not about finding backers to fund some lavish print edition that spares no expense and results in a $50 coffee table book. The goal is a humble one, just enough to cover the basic production costs for an affordable but handsome paperback edition.
The goal may be low but the value of the rewards is high! The concept is to create a clearly marked 2nd edition after sharing the (therefore) extremely limited 1st addition only with you, the people who helped bring the book to life.
Also, I am an accomplished reader with a unique, historically grounded approach. All reward levels involve receiving free readings based on the visualization method I developed and for less than most people charge just for a standard reading.
That my passion as an author, researcher and Tarot reader combine with the originality of my project to outweigh the lack of frills that usually attract Kickstarter support (original art, ornate packaging, etc.). I am not a graphic artist and honestly was never interested in hiring or collaborating with one. The book is entirely a product of my own imagination and effort, I wouldn't change that for anything.
Thank you for reading my proposal.

Risks and challenges
The production of the paper edition will of course take work but I already have a completed manuscript so this is not similar to other publishing projects where failure to complete in a timely manner is a major risk. Should a good number of people kindly support the project, then being able to deliver a large number of quality readings in a timely manner is a more realistic risk. It will be exhausting but I will work diligently on each and every one while still getting them out in time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
