About

Project: Blue is an Action Runner designed for iOS and Android. Travel to different locations across a planet in turmoil and help liberate it from the greatest threat the world has ever known, multinational conglomerates.

Take control of a highly advanced android, originally developed to be sold to the highest bidder. Instead of that fate, it has been captured and reprogrammed to fight back against its creators.

 

 

Project: Blue is inspired by Mega Man and we have designed a game that captures the essence of The Blue Bomber, but properly translates its game play to work on touch screen platforms.  

When Project: Blue is complete it will feature multiple stages that each have their own theme. The enemies and hazards will mostly be unique to each level / theme; however, there will be some enemies that are common to every level.

Instead of a traditional runner, where players have one attempt to achieve a high score and a single mistake results in failure, Project: Blue gives the player a health bar, and an attack to be able to defend yourself, as you travel your way through the levels.

The end of each level will feature a theme appropriate and challenging boss fight. Once the boss has been defeated the level's endless mode will be unlocked, allowing players to return to the level, in a more traditional runner style, to try to get as far as they can without being defeated. Defeating the boss also unlocks a power up that the player is able to take back into the levels with them.

Project: Blue, when released, will be available for free on iOS and Android and will not include any micro-transactions, ever. All items in the game will be able to be unlocked and collected during game play. 

Project: Blue is only going to be monetized through the use of Unity Ads. Players will never be forced to watch an advertisement, it will only ever be opt-in and no aspect of gameplay will be locked or restricted behind these advertisements. We believe in being fair and in delivering the best possible game to our players.

After a year of development, we have managed to almost finish the first level of our game. The first level is a jungle theme, populated with traps and clever characters requiring quick reflexes to be able to reach the boss encounter.

The core team of Project: Blue has a programming background and creating the art assets needed to finish the first level of Project: Blue has been slow. Building the art assets for a game, regardless of scope, is challenging and this is why we are asking for assistance. Our current version of Project: Blue is playable but a lot more work is still required to finish the first level before we are able to move on to another.

 

If Project: Blue is successfully funded, we will be able to finish production of the first level and we will begin to work on a second. Backers of the Alpha tier and above will be able to play our current alpha build upon the completion of our Kickstarter campaign. Beta backers will gain access when the Beta version of the level when it is ready.

Once the first level has been completed it will be released for everybody to download and play; but, our Kickstarter backers will continue to have access to the Alpha and Beta versions of subsequent levels.

 

The music inside of Project: Blue is being composed by the incredibly talented Joshua Peltier. Joshua has been working closely with us to make sure that the music that is put into each level is not only appropriate for the level but amps up appropriately as the difficulty and intensity of the level increases.

Because our Kickstarter is asking for $10,000 to finish the first level of Project: Blue, each $10,000 above the first that we raise means that we will be able to build another level. Ideally, we would like to have 5 levels in the finished version of the game.  

  • The Jungle that is in the process of being clear cut
  • The convoy of shipping and garbage barges crossing the Ocean
  • A desert facility
  • An automated factory
  • A dense cityscape.

Each level is going to require a considerable amount of artwork, and we will need to develop 3-4 unique enemies for each level, design traps, and hazards, build a boss encounter for each level and a unique power up.

Risks and challenges

With every software project there are risks and challenges involved. Features are able to be changed or removed if there is some technical roadblock that we are not able to work past. Enemies or Mechanics could be removed if we do not manage to finish a piece of artwork or if there is a problem with the scripting. Entire levels can be changed into another level if we are not satisfied with the direction of the artwork or mechanics.

We are trying to achieve a simultaneous launch on both iOS and Android. Unfortunately we are not able to offer beta access through TestFlight as a Kickstarter reward because it violates Apple’s App Store Guidelines, so any alpha or beta access for our backers can only be the Android version.

Thankfully all risks involved with scripting are greatly reduced with this project as the overwhelming majority of the scripting has already been completed. The only major things that would need to be coded would be any level specific mechanics, boss mechanics and power up mechanics.

The largest risk that we have now is trying to finish all of the artwork in time to release a finished game in a timely fashion. The team that we have working on artwork for the game is a small team and building these art assets will take time to finish them up to the standard that we desire.
