Mirum Mirum Productions is a Seattle-based theatre company founded by nine graduates of Western Washington University. We are committed to producing new works primarily through Devised Theatre -- a technique used to create original work through collaboration between a team of artists.
Our first piece, (dis)Order, began with a 'hunch' to explore Mental Disorders. From that hunch we spent months investigating and educating ourselves not just on the topic of mental disorders, but on the people behind the illness. We read Oliver Sacks' book 'An Anthropologist on Mars' in an attempt to move past the stigma mental disorders have in our society and find stories of humanity in the face of chaos. Throughout the show we intend to investigate individuals with mood disorders, traumatic brain injuries, and neuro-psychiatric disorders. What makes these characters fascinating isn't what 'holds them back', but what they are capable of giving. They are different, but not less.
(dis)Order is primarily about what it means to be human, and the incredible ingenuity of the human mind and heart. We want to bridge the gap between the sciences and humanity through performance, and would like to invite you to help us make our show a reality. Mirum Mirum hopes that this kickstarter can help us not only finance our first show, but give us the foundation we need to become a regular presence in the Seattle Theatre community.
Donated funds will be put towards....
- Lighting Instruments, Gel and Cabling
- Video and Sound Equipment
- Costumes and Makeup Materials
- Set Construction and Materials
- Space Reservation (both rehearsals and performance space)
(dis)Order is just the first step. Devising is still a young art form, and we want to spread it as much as possible. With your help, we would love to tour high schools, colleges, and help educate young theatre artists (like us!) how to collaboratively create the art they want to see. Thank you for supporting new art in the Seattle community!
