To ensure that this never happens again, follow @beziergames on Twitter, where announcements about this Kickstarter were made several times. And you'll also have the benefit of learning about all sorts of new games, like a new version of the original Ultimate Werewolf game, expansions for the original game, Inquisition, and One Night, and other new games from Bezier Games.
The surprise hit of Essen 2013
And it could be yours in just a few weeks.
When we started developing One Night Ultimate Werewolf earlier this year, we knew we were on to something. A game that gives players the thrill of werewolf in only 10 minutes, with no elimination and no moderator, and with as few as 3 players? Wow. But then we started adding more roles, and took the game up a notch. Then two notches. After more than 450 playtest sessions we lost count of the notches.
One Night Ultimate Werewolf takes 10 minutes (or less) to play, but here's the catch: you won't be able to play just once. Not only is there an amazing "let's play it again" urge, but due to all the roles available, every game can be different. Even if you don't change out the roles, every game is amazingly, awesomely different.
The game comes with 16 card tiles (thick cardboard), and 16 tokens. The cards and tokens have wonderful artwork from children's book illustrator Gus Batts.
You can also get an optional thick mouse-pad-type playmat (though this is by no means required, it makes picking up and moving cards during the night phase easier and quieter).
Gotta Have it
After one of our final playtest sessions, FLGS Game Kastle owner Ray Wisneski wrote us an unsolicited note:
"I am going through withdrawals and really want to play this game again. I really cannot praise this game enough. The Disney-esque illustrations are gooey eye candy, the thick cardboard character cards are perfectly tactile, the price point is right on the money, and the replay value is immeasurable. Winner, Winner, Werewolf Dinner!"
If you like social deduction games like Resistance and werewolf, you'll love One Night Ultimate Werewolf. If you like micro games like Love Letter and Coup, you'll love One Night Ultimate Werewolf.
Here's a session we recorded a few weeks ago with some friends:
The rules to One Night Ultimate Werewolf are pretty simple:
Each player gets one card which they secretly view, with 3 additional cards face down in the center of the table. The Night phase happens with everyone's eyes closed, with most players having the ability to do something at night (werewolves see each other, the Seer looks at cards, the Troublemaker switches cards, etc.).
Then everyone opens their eyes, discusses who among them might be a werewolf, and a few minutes later everyone simultaneously votes. The player(s) with the most votes dies. If a werewolf dies, the village team wins. If a werewolf doesn't die, the werewolf team wins.
Get it Right Away (almost)
Bezier Games, known for the best-selling Ultimate Werewolf party game, has just manufactured a ridiculous number of copies of One Night Ultimate Werewolf. Those games are currently waiting to be shipped from overseas.
Normally they would arrive in the US and be sent out to gamers and stores in January. But we're going to airship some copies to BGG.con (November 20th-24th, 2013) and have them available to attendees to play there, even cheaper than if you'd preorder the game normally for January delivery.
And if you can't make it to BGG.con but have to have the game right away, we'll send out a batch of games immediately following the con (or maybe even from the con if we can).
But the only way we can do this is if we know how many people are willing to pay ahead of time for airshipping games directly to BGG.con.
Why Kickstarter? Why One Night Only?
This Kickstarter is really about getting copies to people who are attending BGG.con. We're doing an amazingly short One Night (well, 2, but that doesn't sound as snazzy) campaign because we need to know the quantities that have to be airshipped from overseas right away in order to get them in time for BGG.con...the rest are going to be loaded onto a container ship. If you don't place the order right away, the soonest you'll get them will probably be January when the big old boat finally arrives.
Rewards: Game, Game & Playmat
You can choose the "Pick up your game at BGG.con" reward with or without a playmat. You can also choose to have the games (with an optional playmat) shipped to you early if you can't make BGG.con.
T-shirt Reward for BGG.con ONLY
If you're going to BGG.con, and PROMISE TO WEAR IT THERE FOR AT LEAST 1 DAY (wearing it more requires that you wash it between wears), you can get a One Night Ultimate Werewolf t-shirt. I will need to know the size you want in order to get these in time for BGG.con, so I will send you a KS mail which you must respond to immediately (before the end of day Thursday, November 7th). These are very high quality black t-shirts. These t-shirts are available cheaper than it costs me to make them so that you can help promote the amazingness that is One Night Ultimate Werewolf at BGG.con.
These may be available separately on the Beziergames.com website, but it is not guaranteed, and if they are, they will be priced much higher. No t-shirts will be available for shipping (sorry!).
BGG.con pick up: $20 per extra game
Additional Games for US Shipping: $25 per extra game
Additional Games for International shipping: $35 per extra game
Extra PlaymatsNo additional playmats may be added to BGG.con deliveries
Additional playmats for US shipping: $15 per extra playmat
Additional playmats for International shipping: $20 per extra playmat
Extra T-shirts delivered to BGG.con: $10 per S, M, L, XL and $13 per XXL, XXXL
Please add these amounts to your backing total.
I know how much it sucks to pay the ridiculous shipping rates for overseas freight, so I've kept these prices as low as possible if you're an international backer. I've put the date for delivery for International shipments at December to account for the 2-3 weeks it can take to ship copies there, but your copies will go out as soon as the US shipments.
This Kickstarter is all about getting you these games FIRST. The remainder of the games are being shipped by boat, and won't arrive until sometime in January (or maybe even February). It's really really expensive to have these things airfreighted here, so you're paying for the cost of that airfreight as part of your reward. There may be some copies of One Night Ultimate Werewolf available for sale at BGG.con, but they'll be priced at $25, and will be very limited.
A Final Note
I love this game...I wish the BGG scale would go to 11 so I could rate it appropriately! I still enjoying it after more than 500 plays. That's crazy!
At our annual Post Essen Weekend playfest, we played all the new Essen Spiel games, but we still played several games of One Night Ultimate Werewolf every evening. I'm thrilled to be able to offer it in time for BGG.con. I hope you enjoy it even a fraction as much as I do!
Risks and challenges
This Kickstarter is all about timing. The games are finished, and all backers will be getting copies that are airshipped either directly to BGG.con or to our office, where we'll send them out. There is always the potential for shipments to get lost, but that's fairly uncommon for air shipments (which is why they cost so much to ship that way).
The Playmats are being produced now, and I've been assured that they will complete in time for BGG.con. However, things can go wrong with this as well, and it is possible that they might be delayed too.
The t-shirts are being produced locally by a firm that does very high-quality work, and has never missed a deadline in the past, but it is possible that they won't be able to complete the order in time.
Bezier Games has published dozens of games and expansions, and plans to continue to use Kickstarter for special events like these. If this Kickstarter project would fail to meet its goal, the game will still be published. As a backer, you're paying to get the game early. The Playmats may or may not be available after this Kickstarter campaign, depending on demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
