Updates to come!
Phew - It's been a long month. Rewards have shipped and almost all were delivered! Yay! Production for this project was intense - physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. So this is THE FIRST moment I've had to send an update! I love sharing my process, so I will send a few posts out in the next few weeks to share the details of each product with you that I haven't had time to do!
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
p.s. There are still a few of you who have yet to fill out your survey. If you haven't received a shipping notification or a package you are probably one of them! I've sent reminder emails, so please check your junk mailbox or message me directly on Kickstarter for a new link. I want to get you your rewards ASAP. :-) Thank you!
Remember how I was struggling with getting the horns produced? Well, the saga continues. When I last updated you, the horns were done with the wrong foil. This time, the registration of the foil design and die cut were wrong on almost all of the presses (only about 40 came out correct). This is very frustrating for me because I have a very keen attention to detail, so a mistake this big is just unacceptable.
I'm having the factory produce more this week - hopefully this batch will be correct!
World Maker Faire! It was great!
Despite the registration issue with the horns, we were able to pack the 40 into full kits and start to sell them at the Faire. This was a big moment for me - to see how the product responds in public.
It was awesome!
We were in a very low traffic area, but even so we sold a bunch of kits and the response was very positive! I personally suffer from a lot of self-doubt right before a product launches, and this was a fantastic feeling to overcome it in such a positive way. :)
I met a few of you there! Thanks for stopping by and for your amazing support!
Shipping Times - Update!
With all of these issues, the shipping of this project will need to be pushed back. It breaks my heart as I said I would ship in September, and I hate breaking promises, but my original schedule was to have the horns finished the first week of September, and here we are in the last week.
I know some of you reached out to me during the campaign asking about shipping dates because you had an event that you wanted to wear your costume to. If you're reading this and saying - "oh no! I need it now!" please email me, I can prioritize your order.
Otherwise, If all goes well (knock on wood) I expect to ship next week (The week of October 1st). So, you will still have plenty of time to make the costume for Halloween. :)
Instructions are Here/Almost Here!
I've been busy making the instructions as well. :) I'm still working on getting them all online but they will be on YouTube and the website shortly.
Production is in full swing! I feel like an Orchestra Master, carefully putting hundreds of tiny pieces into motion. I've spent the past few weeks making sure that every detail is correct, and fighting for the quality of this project.
I design the shape, size, color and material of every piece with extreme attention to detail, research, and testing. The production phase feels like a battle for these decisions. When going from prototype to production, I am fighting for quality of each piece to remain true to the original vision every step of the way.
It's going well (with a few snags, read below). The paper is beautiful, the pieces are fitting together nicely, the colors are bold and beautiful.
I'm really excited!
Here are some pics from production:
Two Snags :-(
The production process has hit a few snags that were out of my control - how frustrating!
Snag #1 - "Searching for Satchels"
UPS misplaced my shipment of the custom sewn tote bags for your Sparkling Satchel kits. It was un-trackable for 3 days, but in the end it turned up! Phew!
The unfortunate thing is that due to the delay, I lost my spot in the production schedule at the screen printer to add the glittery unicorn to the bags, delaying the project about a week.
Snag #2 - "The Horrible Horn Hiccup"
The unicorn horns require a special foil stamping process, so I hire a Stamping and Die Cutting manufacturer to have them made. I've worked with this one before, and they've done amazing work. After patiently waiting for the horns to be manufactured (their production schedule was delayed too) I drove to Long Island City to pick them up (took me 3 hrs in traffic).
I'm so excited to see them. I open the box to check them out.
Not my mistake, but my headache. So the horns are being rushed and run again this week. I hope hope hope hope everything goes smoothly!
I had planned to ship your rewards this week (The 17th).
The new plan is to ship as soon as I get these pieces of the project in. I should still be able to ship before the end of September as promised, fingers crossed! :)
