About this project
Kai hails from an advanced utopian society. His family signs on with a scientific mission to study a primitive world of magic. When an unforeseen accident devastates their vessel, Kai is separated from the rest of the crew. All aboard escape in life pods…all except Kai.
With the protection of a loading dock robot Kai survives the ship’s impact to the surface. He's rescued by an apprentice magi and her quirky mentor. Together they’re Kai’s only hope of staying alive long enough for his parent’s return.
TECHNICALLY MAGI (pronounced mey-jahy) is an ongoing comic book series that is a mixture of thrills, humor, intrigue, monsters, and mayhem all experienced from the view point of a 12 year old, way-in-over-his-head, technogeek. 1 part Robinson Crusoe, 1 part sci-fi, and a whole buttload of your favorite d20 role playing game (dragons, dungeons, barbarians, casters, clerics, liches, with the occasional mech).
This is a true Kickstarter campaign with a goal to get over a publishing hump of four issues. That would effectively kick start us so that we could keep the story coming uninterrupted. We're talkin' a full glorious-color series. We have a gobsmackingly amazing story to share. BUT we need your participation to make it happen!
There is no doubt in the amazing talents of Carlos E. Gómez. Here's a penciller that takes graphite and Bristol board and brings them to life. Drink in the characterizations and all the creative energy in every page.
Color really helps set the tone & mood in scenes. It also takes talent to know how to use it to direct the eye. How can you not enjoy atmospheric, scintillating color from the magic that Eddy-Swan brings to each and every panel.
Plus a big kudos goes out to Teodoro Gonzalez for his contribution on the Zero Issue. You've seen his works in comics with Image and Aspen!
Besides a Kick@$$ Story, what do you get outta this!?!
The pride of knowing that you made it all possible. Oh! That and some epic booty! We've already completed both the Zero Issue, as well as Issue #1. So you can continue to rock the story out with this campaign as we offer exclusive Kickstarter versions of those first two comics as well as the in progress Issue #2!
Now here's the Skinny on the Stretch Goals!
In order to keep the ichor that is our story flowing to you uninterrupted we gotta make it over a publishing hump of 4 issues. That's why we've come up with some bonus items for each goal we crush under our massive march towards victory!
If you select one of the premier reward categories of $40 or more you automatically qualify for extended stretch goal rewards.
Where does the Money Go?
Excellent question! Here's a breakdown chart of how our expenses are covered for the campaign. After all expenses from the campaign are fulfilled the remainder goes towards paying our amazing creative team for their hard work and effort.
You may notice that there's no portion of the pie for the writer. As the creator of the project I'm sitting out any profits from the launch. Any amount over the stretch goals will be put right back into growing the series. I'm just grateful enough to be able to share this awesome story!
FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING!!!
Wah?? That's right. We are thrilled to offer all our reward packages are now available for no additional international shipping charges. Each package will be tracked and shipped from one of our 3 hubs (U.S., Europe, Asia).
Risks and challenges
Our first experience with crowdfunding taught us a great deal. From that, we've retooled our campaign making it more efficient, and your reward offerings more affordable. It really is expensive to produce a quality comic like ours. While our original campaign would have fully covered all creative fees this time around, with your help, we'll be able to offset not all, but a good chunk of the production costs.
Like any creative endeavor there will be the unforeseen, the unexpected, that plot twist you didn't see coming. While this is my first foray in graphic novels, I have experienced this in television production shoots & animation. As Gunny Sgt said, "We improvise. We adapt. We overcome."
"We" also surround ourselves with experienced people from the field. Graphic novel editor Joan Hilty has managed comics for years within DC's Vertigo line. Our TMagi creative team of Carlos E. Gómez, and Eddy-Swan have done amazing work for the major BIG 3.
