Update #1

First Stretch Goals

When we launched the castAR campaign less than 20 hours ago, we had no idea it would generate the amount of interest it has in such a short period of time. In the case that we significantly surpass our initial fundraising goal, we will have additional resources available to add new features to existing pledge levels.

Due to the popularity of the tabletop gaming portion of our Kickstarter video, if we raise $600K, we would like to create a fully functional dungeon tiling tool for use with both the RFID Tracking Grid and the Magic Wand independently. (For example, imagine a GM with local players using the RFID Tracking Grid with RFID Bases on miniatures, and a remote player without a Grid using the Magic Wand to specify positioning within the shared game world. This will be the topic for a future development video, so if you have specific questions about the implementation or usage, please ask and we will address them.) This tool will come with a default set of wall, floor, and obstacle tiles for immediate use, but will also allow for the inclusion of custom player-created tile sets as well.

If momentum continues and we raise $800K, we will then switch to the hardware side of things for our second stretch goal. Integrating a microphone into the glasses will help facilitate fast and easy communication across groups consisting of local and non-local members. Earbuds will further enrich castAR experiences by delivering positional audio without requiring bulky additional equipment.

Are there other things you would like to see in future stretch goals? Please let us know by sharing your thoughts in the Comments section of our campaign. We would genuinely like to hear from you and we very much appreciate your support.

Add some cheap IR laser grid projection, so that you can scan 3D object with your IR camera and put them into the game instantly.

@Ikalios, although that sounds like a good idea, you then have other issues you need to facilitate, like batteries, and more importantly where the processing power, networking, it would need it's own CPU thing, etc. I thought about this very thing and came up with that you'd rather have a small server set up that manages the world, and the USB connection goes to a small inexpensive tablet you can slip into your pocket. I have a tablet that costs $80 that I can plug a USB cable into, and is wireless, just need an android application so it can connect to a server and that deals with all the wire/power issues present. Mind you the graphics processing would have to be rather low, but this isn't like COD or anything so most of the time it will be just fine.

      - Lens that will projet a deformed display, to expand the field of view (a la Ocullus Rift) so that you will have more pixel density in the middle, but still the informatiion from peripheral vision.

      - Reflective glove with finger tracking (1 camera on each side of the wrist).
      - Linux SDK is a must.
      - A dome shaped reflectiv unit to be totaly immersed.

Idea 1: A video chat app with 3D camera clip-on: I don't know if this is even possible, but somehow this works in my head. Maybe you guys could somehow use your active shutter glasses, a special 3D camera clip-on, and an inexpensive camera to set up AR video chat. It would require each person participating to own two castAR glasses and the 3D camera clip-on. The 3D camera clip-on would hold the camera on one side of the glasses and on the other side the clip-on would position two mirrors on the outside of the glasses that angle light through each eye lenses. The active shutter system would then let in a left and right eye view sequentially to the camera to create the 3D image.

Idea 2: Buy a food truck, but instead of selling food drive it all over Seattle and take the castAR experience to the people! Deck the sides of the truck with retro-reflective material and enjoy the look of amazement on the face of unsuspecting participants.

i would like positional beacons. I would like to be able to put a few boxes onto the car/motorbike that i'm working on, load up a model into the system and walk around looking at subsections overlaid on the actual car. Want to know where the wiring loom runs before you strip it down? just look. it would also be useful for designers, allowing the to map or adjust existing models to physical objects. Eg, place your beacons, then trace the object with the wand to create a new virtual model.

Stretch goal suggestion: a converter gizmo from dual-stream HDMI/3D to the VR system (HDMI pass through); be able to use as a display (e.g. from PS3) or maybe even output to a 3D TV.

+1 for oculus rift compatibility - I'd even go as far as making sure it showed up as HID and Display devices at the driver level somehow so that it can be interfaced into Maya or any 3d engine that already exists (including AutoCAD apps). It will be the apps and where people take the platform that will make or break it long term.

An app that will turn grey days into blue skies or allow you to AR without a screen so one can see a digital night sky would be awesome (pnw know this dream all too well).

I remember reading somewhere (i think on the forums) about a virtual zen garden. Someone on here mentioned a sand sandbox. I think its a really good idea. Those 2 people plus me makes 3 votes for some kind of physics sand playground that could be on a 1x2 meter coffee table or something.. Also, someone mentioned a battery pack on here. I dont know if thats feasible (engineering wise without redoing the whole system) or economically-wise, but it would be much more convenient.

Future stretch goal...how about 3d video calls...2 cameras at each end to allow holographs of the callers room to be sent in VR mode. Of course I don't know if that is technically possible, but how awesome would that be?

      Nice!
I definitely think the flexibility of a TRRS headphone/mic jack is the way to go for audio. Then just include some decent off-the-shelf earbuds (At least as good as the ones that come with Samsung phones; which are decent, and have multiple size ear pieces), and a software/hardware option to route zero latency audio from the mic through the headphones, so you don't feel as closed in...

      Rock on!

Maybe a dishwasher-safe RFIDs to make a long-term playful dinner table that reacts to the dishes?

Maybe trackers specifically designed for mounting on RC cars (or pets?) to create an AR Super Off Road?

Maybe a portable (folding) AR aquarium that can be configured with the wand?

Maybe microphones (or temperature sensors?) on the tracking grid to detect people blowing? (eg. knocking over zombies, setting huts on fire, or moving around sail boats)
