Even without reaching our set goal, Kickstarter has helped us immensely. We have connected to the gaming community and have now more amazing opportunities as a result. Talking with the community, receiving feedback and words of encouragement has demonstrated how many people would be interested not only in our game but also us succeeding with it. Your Emails, Facebook Messages and Comments keeps us pointed in the right direction.
We would like to thank everyone who pledged, shared our content, provided feedback or criticism, or those who simply believed in our game. Moving forward, the team now has a clearer direction in which to go, and we’ll keep you posted as we continue our journey. While this may be the first time you’ve heard of Legends of the Traveler, this won't be the last.

Fear is spreading throughout the world of Reed. Only the mysterious Traveler seems to be unaffected and the only hope to keep the world from falling into chaos.
Legends of the Traveler is an action adventure set in a fantasy world. The engine we are using is the Unreal Game Engine. This is allowing us to eventually publish the game for PC, Mac, Linux and later maybe Playstation and Xbox as well. This game will be a very story driven single player game.
The goal is to have every character in the game voice acted. Besides having around 150 Monsters ready to be used in the game we have also thought about some other features to make our game more interesting.
Rune System: In Legends of the Traveler you will be able to use Runes to increase and add a special damage type to your Weapon or protect yourself from a certain damage type when put into your Armour. Runes will be available in different qualities. You will be able to find Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold and Gemstone Runes. Lower quality Runes will have less charges and will be less effective compared to Runes of higher quality. Combining Runes will allow you to unlock different effects.
Karma System: We have for Legends of the Traveler worked on a Karma System, allowing you to build trust with a single NPC or an entire faction. If you have managed to gain enough trust with an NPC or faction you will be able to gain rewards that might otherwise not be obtainable.
Justice System: When you commit any crime in Legends of the Traveler and get caught, the Justice System will punish you. Our Justice System is not limited to guards chasing you. If you kill too much wildlife, it will be possible that the Protector of the Woods is trying to hunt you down.
Fighting System: The Fighting System in Legends of the Traveler will be hopefully easy to learn and a challenge to Master. We like to give you a lot of good skills in the beginning so you can fight even bigger monsters. In the later game you will most likely prepare your Weapons and Armour before entering a fight, using specific Runes to overpower dangerous Monsters.
Magic System: You will be able to learn a variety of spells in Legends of the Traveler. Some spells will be easy to learn, others will take you a while before you can access them. We will have spells that can heal you, give you protection or help you otherwise in a fight.
Classes: You will be able to teach your character whatever you want. If you like to be a melee character or magic heavy character will be your choice.
You will start the game as a young mercenary, fresh from the academy. Together with your friend you will find yourself in the North, where the Dwarfs are mining magical Gemstones, turning them into powerful Runes. But your journey will turn into an adventure you would not have imagined.
During the first act of the game you will familiarize yourself with the Fighting System. It will introduce you to the fantasy world of Reed and ease you into the story.
In the second act we will introduce the villain and also the Main Character called The Traveler.
During the rest of the story you will help the Traveler to stop the villain. The ending will vary a little based on the decisions you have made during the game.
Legends of the Traveler is based on a story created by R. Simon Kaebe. Simon initially thought about the character, which eventually became the Traveler, about 20 years ago when he was playing Pen and Paper games with his brother and friends. When asked why he never published the story, he mentioned that he always seemed to be busy with other projects. However, in 2015 he found one of his old notebooks with notes of the story. He later discovered that he still had all the documents saved from over 15 years ago, when he started developing a new pen and paper game.
Our goal is to entertain you with an engaging story and fun gameplay. By becoming a backer you are supporting us to make this dream come true. For your help we like to offer the following rewards depending on your contribution.
Listed in the credits: Depending on your contribution you will be listed in the credits as the The Visitor, The Pilgrim, The Explorer, The Pioneer, The Pathfinder, The Wanderer, The Adventurer or The Traveler.
Digital copy of Legends of the Traveler: We estimate that the release date for the game will be December 2018. As soon as the game has been released you will receive a digital copy.
BETA access: Every game needs to be tested before it can be released. With the BETA access you can not only start playing the game before anyone else, but also help us to find bugs, improve balancing and become a part of the developing process.
Legends of the Traveler T-Shirt or Mousepad: After a successful Kickstarter we will contact you to ask if you would prefer to receive a T-Shirt or Mousepad. If you prefer a T-Shirt we will also have to ask you which size.
Copy of the artwork: We have a lot of concept art that helped us visualizing the characters. During the developing process things are changing including the look of characters. Before we release the game we will take all the artwork made for Legends of the Traveler and build a collection which will be printed and send to you.
Statue in the game: We plan to build many locations the player can visit. Some smaller villages as well as some larger towns. As a thank you for your contribution we like to build a statue in one of those locations. When players are investigating those statues they will find a plate with your name and a thank you note.
Name an NPC: The player will encounter many people and all of them need to have a name that fits the world they are living in. You can help name one of the NPCs with a fitting name. We will be in contact with you, give you several name to choose from and include you in the naming process.
Become a shop owner in the game: Always wanted to be a pub owner in a fantasy game? Maybe a tailor or blacksmith? Get your own shop in the game and become a part of the fantasy world we are working on to create.
Work with our team on a side quest given by the shop owner: You will not only have your own shop in the game, where the player can buy and sell items. You also can help us create an engaging side quest. You will work closely with our team on this quest and be included in the decision making process. Want to include some twist and turns? We are very interested to hear what you have in mind.
Meet the core people behind Legends of the Traveler. The brave and crazy team that like to go the extra mile to make this game come true. Our core team might be small, but we are dedicated and believe we can create a entertaining game. Join us by becoming a backer.

Caleb is currently studying Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University, and his academic focus is centred around technology, game design, marketing and communication.
Jannik Verdoner - Lead Developer His main responsibility is to build the game, program the AI and secure that everything works as expected. He has a degree in Game Development from Dania College at Grenaa and is currently working on finishing his bachelor degree. Jannik’s favourite areas in game development is Artificial Intelligence and Gameplay programming.
R. Simon Kaebe - Creative Director Legends of the Traveler is based on a story Simon began to write over 20 years ago. The monsters, characters, the Rune system and many more have been created and even play tested when he was working on a pen and paper version of Legends of the Traveler 15 years ago. Simon has created his first computer game, a text adventure, when he was 16 and has worked on various larger projects in his professional career.
Getting it Done: Based on our calculation we will need ~$150.000 to get the game done. Since we are not an established game development studio we have to work with what we have. So far we were lucky with the help we have received, but we are aware that we will need a lot more to get the game published. Many of friends would be interested to do the voice over for the NPCs and the main characters. But we still need to pay for a studio, some equipment, additional blueprints and other extras from the Unreal Marketplace and honestly some professional help from a 3D animator to get the cut sense done.
Bigger Team: Our core team is small and we are looking for increasing the team to create a game we can be proud of and you can enjoy playing. The three of us are willing to work for free, but we can not expect that from anyone else. Getting more people will result in needing more office space and higher cost.
Gaining a Voice: Many of our friends are interested to give us their voices for the game. But our friends are no professional voice actors. Reaching this stretch goal would allow us to get professional voice actors into the studio.
More Quests: Our goal is to make the game as much fun as possible. By having more people working in the team will allow us to build even more quests for Legends of the Traveler.
Other Platforms: We like to release the game on PC, macOS and Linux. Releasing it Playstation and Xbox is technically possible, thanks to the Unreal Game Engine, but will result in additional costs. Our original plan was to release it on Steam first, wait for the results and decide afterwards if it make sense to release it on Playstation and Xbox as well. By reaching this stretch goal we will do our best to make the game available on Playstation and Xbox on release date.
More Languages: If we reach this stretch goal we will not only release the game in English, but also additional languages. We won’t limit ourselves to just only translate text documents, but also get some voice over actors who can speak the additional languages. Depending on the community the game might get released in German, Dutch, French and maybe even more. Our core team won’t be able to translate the story in all languages, which will result in getting professional translators helping us out.
Done Sooner: Should we reach this stretch goal we will do our best to get the game done sooner. Our core team has also agreed on shaving off their hair if we reach this goal.
We had a lot of support to get as far as we did and we like to thank all of you who made this happen. A lot of the artwork was provided by Karl, a German Artist. You can find his Facebook Page here:
Risks and challenges
This is our first game. We therefore experience challenges we were not aware of when we started. Fortunately Simon has worked on larger projects, even projects that needed guidance for more than a year. His project management skills keep us on track, but this game is also for him a new challenge.
Beside the challenges we have already faced we also experienced a lot of support, sometimes from unexpected sources. It is also important to mention that Simon wanted to get his story published for a very long time and we are all dedicated and determent to do our best to make this game entertaining and fun.
We may not have the experience of a large game development company, but hope to find support in the community we hope to build with this game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
