Team Girl Comic needs your help to fund our 5th issue!
What is ‘Team Girl Comic’? We’re a collective of all-female comics creators working in and around Glasgow. We aim to contribute to the increasing presence of women and girls in the UK indie comic scene, but mostly we just want to have fun making comics! Twice a year we produce an anthology to showcase some of our work, featuring stories that range from autobiographical to the more whimsical and surreal. Women and girls of all ages and backgrounds are invited to contribute to the comic, resulting in a huge variety of styles and a unique, DIY charm.
Why do we suddenly need funding? In the past, we have funded Team Girl Comic entirely by ourselves, with no external support. It’s great to be independent, but it also limits our print runs. Raising money through Kickstarter will enable us to print more comics with more content. We’re also hoping to use any extra funding to reprint the now sold-out TGC issues 1 and 2, to keep all you completists happy! Our overarching reason for asking you to offer us a little bit extra this time round is to help Team Girl Comic take a step toward becoming more sustainable in the long term.
As always the comic will be printed A5 size with a colour cover and 28+ pages of black and white comic content. We’re expecting this to be our biggest issue yet, with contributions from a whole range of TGC members old and new. Previous Team Girl contributors have included Gill Hatcher, Coleen Campbell, Penny Sharp, Heather Middleton and Evy Craig plus many more!
“…there’s an undeniable charm to this ragtag publication that’s easily carving a unique place for itself as a means for forthright girl comic geeks to make their name in a predominantly male world.” The List, 2012
