Stretch Goals #1 and #2 have been hit, meaning all backers at the print level and above will receive 2 free mini prints on top of their regular reward packages!
I'm planning on publishing a 2017 sketchbook in early 2018!
As a part of Kickstarter's Make 100 project, I've decided it will be my goal to make (at least) 100 sketches/more refined drawings this year! This will ensure that I have many sketches to go through at the end of the year as I compile work for the book.
This project will help me to replenish my art supplies as I create many new drawings, it will also cover costs for mini prints, reward shipping, as well as paying me a very small wage for the many hours of my time needed to create so many sketches. Backer input will also be invaluable as I work out the details for the final book! We're fully funded, but the more we raise, the more time and resources I can spend on this project! We're quickly closing in on Stretch Goal #1, which will also allow me to print up another set of mini prints as a free bonus reward for backers <3
This project won't cover publishing costs for the sketchbook itself. I'll be running another Kickstarter project in late 2017 or early 2018 to take care of that. If all goes well, yearly sketchbooks will be a recurring project.
All backers pledging $2+ will:
- Be the first to see new sketches as I complete them.
- Have first dibs on new non-commissioned original sketches as they go up for sale.
- Be the first to be notified when my Sketchbook project launches in late 2017/early 2018, meaning first dibs on original art and other limited reward tiers.
- I'll also be polling backers and seeking opinions as I work on sketches and starting the book design.
Commission a sketch!
Below are a few examples of recent sketches. Backers pledging at the "Original Sketch" tier can expect a refined sketch with a good deal of detail (these will be more refined drawings, I probably shouldn't be calling them "sketches". oh well). Backer sketches will measure 5"x7", a standard frame size. Give me a simple prompt ("dragon with lots of horns", "unicorn with mushrooms", "tiger", etc) and I will interpret it into a drawing, and mail you the original! No nudity please, I'd like the final sketchbook to be appropriate for all ages :)
Nov 2017 is listed as the ship date for commissioned rewards, but most if not all will be finished and mailed well ahead of then.
I also have five 8"x10" sketch commission spots open! The image below is an example (this drawing is titled "Extraterrestrial", and is available as a separate backer reward)
As per the Make/100 theme, I have 100 spots available between the 3 options. If we don't end up with 100 Sketch tier backers, I'll create more sketches of my own chosen themes. Most of the non commissioned originals will be posted for sale, and backers will have first dibs.
Contact me privately if you'd like to add another 5"x7" sketch to your rewards by adding another $40 to your pledge, I can only offer this option to a limited number of backers!
I'm also offering limited edition prints of one of my favorite recent sketches, the dragon pictured above. These are 5"x7" matte prints, and will be signed, numbered, and dated on the back.
Watermark will not be on the final print. Edition will be limited to 100 or 250, depending on the final backer count.
$1,000: I'll print up another set of limited edition mini prints, all backers set to receive physical rewards will have a mini print added to their reward package for free! After a backer vote, the chosen design is my unicorn ballpoint drawing "Quiet":
$1,500: I'll print up another set of limited edition mini prints, all backers set to receive physical rewards will have a mini print added to their reward package for free! After a backer vote, the chosen design is this butterfly fish, which I will finish shortly.
$2,000: I'll print up another set of limited edition mini prints, all backers set to receive physical rewards will have a mini print added to their reward package for free! I will be holding a backer vote to decide the next print.

Risks and challenges
This is a pretty simple project, the main challenge being to keep up my stamina and not fall behind on creating new pieces as the year progresses.
I've kept the goal to a reasonable 100 drawings per 365 days, meaning I don't need to draw every day in order to stick to it. This will make it much easier to keep up, even accounting for potential sick days and working 2 - 3 shifts at my day job most weeks. Most of my sketches only take a few hours at the most to create, so on days when I can sit and sketch for a solid chunk of time, I can easily create a few pieces in one go.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
