The Traverse City Dance Project will begin with a 20-day intensive rehearsal period in Traverse City, MI. Ten professional dancers and four emerging/established choreographers from around the world will develop four dance works, which will see their world premiere on July 26 & 27, 2012 at the City Opera House in downtown Traverse City.
The choreographers include the celebrated Italian choreographer Mauro de Candia (recently appointed the artistic director of Dance Company Theater Osnabrück in Germany), the internationally-renowned John Utans (Australia, currently living in Hong Kong), and TCDP Artistic Directors Jennifer Lott (California) and Brent Whitney (New York City). The dance artists of TCDP are diverse and versatile. They range from established professionals who have worked nationally and internationally in major ballet and modern companies to bright young talents at the beginning stages of their careers. They were selected not only for their technical prowess, but also for their maturity, respect for the art of dance, openness to new ideas, and generosity toward their fellow artists.
These dance artists share a common goal: to create and perform innovative, inspirational, and beautiful works of living art. The Traverse City Dance Project will act as a creative laboratory, providing a focused opportunity to investigate, hone, and share choreography with a vibrant community.
For the dance artist and dance aficionado alike, opportunities like this are rare treasures not to be passed by! We are eager to dive in, and invite you to join us!
