I love art. I think it is vital and necessary. I have been making it my whole life. I went to school for it. I've got some degrees in it. I'm making a living at it. Even still, I wasn't making art EVERY day. Well, I wasn't until January 1st of this past year.
See, I moved to Seattle just over a year ago. I love it here, but it's a distracting city. I was creating stuff, but I wasn't doing it often enough. So, on Christmas day of last year, I decided to make a piece every day in 2013. I might have been a bit buzzed at the time. Buzzed enough to brag about this crazy idea on facebook. It still seemed like a (mostly) good idea the next morning, though. So I decided to go through with it.
And I have. It has been amazing. I'm over 300 days into the project and I love doing it. I think I have made some really fun, quirky art.
Once this year is finished, my dream is to collect all of this art into an exquisite, full color, 9" x 12" hardcover book. I need to raise $8000 to make this happen. The money will go directly into printing and shipping this book to everyone that orders one.
I believe art can be fun. It can be nonsensical. It can be irreverent. And it can be beautiful. It can be all of these things at the same time. I hope, if you agree with me, you will help me fund this project. A large format coffee table book chock full of images showcasing this year's work will be a sometimes irreverent but always delightful piece of art in its own right.
Heck, I might even try to convince my mother to write the introduction.
I believe art can brighten someone's day. I hope this kickstarter brightens yours and that you will help me get this book made.
Thank you sincerely.
p.s. You can see the rest of this year's art in greater detail on my website at http://taylorwinder.com or on my facebook art page at http://facebook.com/taylorwinderartwork
p.p.s. Kickstarter won't let me edit the text of the rewards (for obvious reasons). I'm just posting here to let everyone know that The Final Countdown! dates that have been claimed so far are: December 1st, December 6-7th, 11th, December 13th, December 18-20th, December 24-25th, and December 30th.
p.p.p.s. (I'm not actually sure that's how postscripts work but bear with me.). The current vote totals for the title of the book, based on dollar amounts pledged, are as follows:
Option A: 7 votes. Option B: 107 votes. Option C: 0 votes. Option D: 0 votes.
Risks and challenges
There's always a slim chance that I may break my drawing hand before year's end, I suppose. If that happens I'll draw with my teeth. I'm about 305 pieces (and counting, depending upon which day you're reading this) into the project and I have made art while driving across country, attending weddings, moving, and while slightly hungover.
I have never made a book before. So, you know, there's that. That said, I have worked as a professional graphic designer and have a great deal of design experience. I also have friends that work in publishing, and I will happily call in every favor they might have ever owed me in order to get a quality book made in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
