I See Cat People!
Hi, I'm Tara Fly, an artist whose childhood obsession with cats led me unexpectedly into a career painting cats dressed as characters from classic literature, history, mythology, and fairy-tales. =^,,^=
I've been a dedicated cat artist for eight years. I work in artist-grade acrylics on canvas, Masonite panels, and occasionally on wooden plaques. You can see more of my cat art on my website, TaraFlyArt.com.
For the past three years, I've published an annual "Literary Cats Calendar" with the help of Kickstarter and my supportive fans ~ and here we are, in August 2017, ready to do it again for the 4th time! Yay!
The 2018 Literary Cats Calendar is....
- Made in the USA
- Measures 8.5" x 11" folded (opens to 11" x 17" when hanging)
- Full color, with glossy pages
- Limited Edition, signed & numbered by me, the artist
I will be working with the same printing company that published my previous three calendars, so you can be assured of the same professional quality!
The 2018 calendar will feature 12 new original paintings that I've completed in the past year... including two brand new portraits that will be created DURING the Kickstarter campaign!
This year's calendars will have the same beautiful layout as last year:
- Artwork will measure 5"x7" ~ so you can frame your favorite pieces!
- Each image features a literary quote or stanza of poetry
- Large, easy to read & write-on grid squares
- Empty spaces to write notes
- Preview previous and upcoming months
- Full-length 2019 Year in Preview on back pages
I will be painting TWO brand new paintings for this calendar, and Backers will get exclusive sneak peeks & videos of my progress during the campaign! Watch a painting come magically to life!

Custom Literary Cat Paintings
If you're looking for something EXTRA SPECIAL, consider a custom portrait of your cat... or a loved one's cat! An original acrylic painting of a feline in fancy clothing makes the purr-fect gift for a Cat Purrson in your life!
A limited number of 5"x7" and 8"x10" commission portrait spaces are available. Rewards will ship with the painting in Nov/Dec.
Prints & Magnets
Archival reproductions are individually printed by me in my studio, using Cold Press paper & pigment ink; they are signed on the back. Retail Value: $20
Large acrylic magnets measure 2.5" x 3.25" and are hand-assembled by myself. Retail value: $5.00
If your Pledge Tier includes prints and magnets, you may choose your preferred image(s) from the list below:
Note: If the Kickstarter campaign ends successfully, a backer survey for fulfilling rewards will be sent to your e-mail address; there will be a list included of available images to make your selection(s).
~ ABOUT MY GOAL ~
My financial goal includes the cost to print 150 calendars, funds to cover shipping for domestic US packages, print reward merchandise, and cover Kickstarter's fees.
This will be a Limited Edition run of signed & numbered 2018 calendars ~ they will not be re-ordered at a later date. If you are interested in the 2018 Literary Cats Calendar, please back me in this project to ensure you get as many as you want! =^,,^=
~ A quick reminder to International Backers that you will be responsible for any duties/custom fees on your end. I fill out forms using the amount you pledge (i.e. the "transaction value").... which is cheaper than the full retail value of the enclosed items. :) Thank you for your support! ~
Risks and challenges
This is my fourth Kickstarter campaign, and the previous three calendars & their rewards were delivered on time.
The printing company is professional and capable, and the typical turn-around is generally two weeks to ship calendars to my doorstep. I will be printing and assembling the other rewards in my studio during that time. Still, I have estimated a November delivery just in case we encounter any delay, particularly with international shipping.
I do have two new paintings to complete for the calendar, prior to sending the files to the printer. The originals will also be part of a charity art auction in mid-September, so they must be finished in time. I will be updating backers with Behind the Scenes peeks at the two paintings, so everyone will know where things stand.
I have projected a December delivery for the commissioned paintings in the limited tiers, and I have cleared my schedule for three months to work on those.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
