We exist for anyone who is conscious about what they drink and its impact in their community. Taproot is Utah’s craft soda- creating a positive soda revolution, one handcrafted batch at a time. A stark departure from what we would normally call ’soda’- our sodas are less sweet than The Big Guys', have flavors & ingredients you actually like, and benefits good causes.
A taproot is the foundational root of a plant, whose purpose is to be a source of strength and nourishment for growth going forward. This message comes to life with who we are as a brand and how we run our business.
-to make world class soda with authentic ingredients
-to give 1% of our proceeds to non-profits
-to treat people fairly, as we’d like to be treated
-to be environmental stewards
-to promote healthy culinary culture
We’ve been working for just about a year now before and after our day jobs. We’ve already teamed up with local universities to get our business plan and financials rock-solid, found a local raw honey source we love, partnered with the most talented illustrator around to create absolutely spectacular branding (see below, and thanks Alana!), and met hundreds of people who have tried and fallen in love with our drinks & concept.
Blackberry Spearmint - In the late 1800s and early 1900s, popular soda fountains would serve drinks called ‘crushes’ that used real fruit muddled in soda water. Using only 100% fruit in puree-form, we’re bringing back an authentic and amazingly refreshing natural soda/juice hybrid. A great beverage to enjoy on its own or mix with your favorite spirit. Real blackberries and marrionberry varieties sorted and washed in Oregon, and organic spearmint for a healthy and nutritious beverage that sparkles and shines.
Squamish Legend “Raven, the Brave Warrior”- Raven’s sisters needed someone strong to paddle the canoe to reach an area to pick blackberries. When they reached that place, Raven lazily offered to watch the canoe and any blackberries they store on the canoe while they picked more. He grew hungry and ended up eating most of the blackberries while his sisters were gone, and squeezed the juices of the rest of the berries on himself to pretend an enemy attacked him and took all of the gathered fruit.
Lemon Lime Lavender - Organic lemon peel, lime and lemon juice, with a subtle kiss of lavender and natural honey, it’s the perfect refreshing beverage to enjoy on a mountain trail or mowing the lawn. In winter, serve warm for a reminder of sunshine. Jade has grown up and worked around Utah’s lavender fields his whole life, and the idea sprung from using real lavender essential-oil from Mona and raw honey from Mapleton for a refreshing take on a light citrus beverage. Blends well with local gin for a surreal adult libation.
Ute “Creation Story”- The Creator was a wolf who tasked his younger brother, the Coyote, to carry a bag on a journey to the sacred grounds. Consumed with curiosity, Coyote tears the bag slightly, and many twigs fell out which began speaking different languages. Only a few twigs remained in the bag which were brought to the sacred grounds and were described to be the chosen people of the Utes.
Lemongrass Ginger Ale - Fresh ginger, lemongrass and local raw honey. A mildly spicy ginger-kick accompanied by the bright and refreshing notes of Thai lemongrass, slightly and healthily sweetened by raw honey for health and prosperity. An award winning beer recipe from Jayson and Mike now in soda form.
“The Laughing Place"- a story of Br’er Rabbit leading his perpetual enemies and captors, Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear, to “The Laughing Place” – which turns out to be a cavern of bees. While not the biggest or strongest, Br’er rabbit uses his cunning to escape. A fitting tale for a small company taking on Coke and Pepsi!

Risks and challenges
The beverage world is expensive to enter, highly competitive and as a whole, soda consumption is shrinking in the United States. In an attempt to curb losses, The Big Guys are masquerading as craft brands, eliminating high-fructose, & buying up grocery shelf space in a desperate attempt to save their stagnant brands. But they’re playing the exact same hand Big Brewing has tried for decades, and as craft-brewers we happen to have played against them, and won! We believe we can do the same thing in soda by making an authentic craft soda using local raw honey, real fruit & organic cane sugar as sweeteners and be an authentically positive brand by contributing to our community- because it’s the right thing to do!
