About

Peaceful and easygoing aboriginals were living far away on the mysterious island in absolute harmony with wild nature. They hunted, cultivated the land, built simple huts, kept some animals and prayed their gods…

It seemed nothing could change their lives, but one day huge cruise ship landed the island…there were tourists on it! Like termites, tourists started exploring the island, eager to make their contribution to aboriginals` civilization.

They were wandering along the huts with cameras, making photos with frightened aboriginals, were printing their names on the trunks of trees and making the life of the natives unbearable! Such situation forced the chief of the tribe to come to a decision to save the island immediately by digging deep holes on the tracks of the island in order to catch tourists into them and turn tourists back to the ship.

The main goal of “Tap’n’Trap” game is to save the isolated exotic island from noisy tourists.

While catching the tourists, the player will get additional tasks concerning the saving of the endangered species. Also he’ll find out the useful information about these particular species.

Who else but our kids can change the world for better?..

Initially there were only two of us, two artists. We have been working for game studios for many years making games of different genres for different platforms. However, we have always wanted to make something by ourselves. It was difficult to make the first step and start producing our own project - the game that would be great not only for the game players, but for us as well, because we’re sure the project has no future if the game developers are not the fans of it themselves.

We were eager to make something simple and funny, the game that would be enjoyed by kids and adults as well. Later we have decided not only to amuse but also to raise an important question about the environment and its preservation in general.

This was the prehistory of the island and tourists’ birth. The first tester was my 5-year-old son. It seemed he was ready to play our prototype endlessly. It helped to realize that we had started something rightly and so we began to create new graphics full of new colors and humor. Every day we were playing the game in our minds, moved from level to level, catching tourists and collecting scores.

Later the talented people such as artists, game designer, programmers, and compositor have- joined us. This way we have become a team and the process of the game developing became more exciting and the team more passionate for the game.

Nowadays the environmental problems are of extreme importance. The humanity develops rapidly and it changes and destroys all the Mother Nature has created.

Young people today spend too much time game playing. Many computer games teach how to kill monsters, drive sport cars or fly on spaceships. Meanwhile the problems of nature and its protection are forgotten. People have no time to think about it.

The technical progress, which is not possible to stop, makes our lives easier and more interesting but at the same time, all these benefits created by people are replacing the perfection of nature created many millions of years ago.

On American scientists’ opinion (publication in Nature magazine) now the Earth’s sixth mass extinction of species has begun. For the last 540 million years this happened only 5 times.

We explore the new land, conquer the earth’s interior and the heights of space, and everywhere the humanity tries to leave its step by writing the fateful phrase “I was here”.

In “Tap’n’Trap” game we tried to raise these problematic questions in easy and humorous way. We want to help kids to realize that modern people and technological progress should not conquer wild nature.

We are eager to show that when playing computer games it is possible not only to kill the bloody monsters but also to think of what can happen if a man continues to destroy the wild nature.

As known, the most important thing before the project starts is the choosing of the style. It is easier to make the graphics when the general style is already known and which way to move and orient on. It was the most difficult for us to choose the style for locations.

 The style of characters was easier to choose. We had the image of the characters in mind already and we had just to visualize them and correct if necessary on the stage of modeling.

 We want to make the game that would be interesting to play by kids and adults as well.

Catch the tourists and help the aboriginals, open the new locations!

Now we want to make no less than 15 locations. Later this number would be increased.

This version of the game has 6 characters: 3 tourists and 3 aboriginals. All of them move along the different paths of the island. There are holes on the ground covered with palm branches. Player’s task is to catch tourists into holes opening them by the finger tap. Just a tap!

However, it is not so easy concerning some of the tourists. One of them is too fat to fall down the small hole easily. He gets stuck into the hole and tries to move out. If the player doesn’t “help” the tourist to fall in, tourist gets out and moves strolling the island again.

Another tourist has a huge backpack on the back, which could be used according to the situation and of course, our character will do it. He throws it down covering the hole and goes over it easily. But you should remember the tourist has no other pack so can be caught on the next hole!

As you see, the gameplay is simple, in other words just “tap and trap”!

Still the player has to be careful not to catch the aboriginals into the holes. If it happens, the player loses one life, and if the chief of the aboriginals gets trapped, the player will have to start the level all over again.

Be careful, chiefs don’t like to be trapped! ))

Be sure everything isn’t so scary. If you’ve opened the wrong hole and the aboriginal might fall down, you can use the magical watermelon, which will cover the hole by itself and the aboriginal goes over it easily. These watermelons are the aboriginals’ helpers.

As additional tasks, the player can save different endangered species of animals. Saved animals will appear on player's Red List. Fill up your own Red List and share it with your friends!

Feel yourself as an aboriginal living on the isolated island! Remind the world once again that there are things in the world that human beings cannot totally control, and just have fun playing the game!

We are the young developers’ team from Ukraine.

Today our team represents five people. We do not have working ranks on our team – we are just engineers and artists who are totally in love with mobile games and our work. We love what we do and enjoy doing it. We are a TEAM!

The main gameplay of our game is ready by now. We have two levels and main characters. All of them walk the island and fall down the holes. But before we say “the game is completed” we have to work more. We are eager to add more levels to make the game more challenging and also to push to life our idea about environmental protection and additional tasks on the levels. These are special features like saving the endangered species of animals and collecting garbage left by tourists. We will be glad if you suggest some more ideas to us for additional tasks to turn player's’ attention to environmental problems and make the gameplay more interesting.

To put the project to life our team is working for free. Unfortunately, game developing process demands a lot of efforts and costs. This is why we turn to you for help to help us finish what we have started. To do it and to make the game funny and educational we need $20, 000 CAD.

$14,500 (72.5%): developing new levels (we plan to edit 15 levels on the initial stage of work and to make more further); to make the idea about additional tasks (saving animals and collecting garbage) real; working with social networking sites for the players could share their progress in the game.

$500 (2.5%): we have one soundtrack in the game but we want to supply the game with some more to put the player in the atmosphere of the isolated island completely. In addition, of course to add bright and funny sound effects.

$1000 (5%): It is difficult to count all the rewards but according to our calculation we need such amount for rewards.

$4000 (20%): Unfortunately, we cannot go without taxes and commitment fees. Such amount will be necessary to spend on taxes and other levies.

The date of planning release is- Nov 2015. We do not say it will be easy since we have a lot of work to do but we will try to make everything possible to finish the game as scheduled. This is our goal. This is the way for our team to success and further development as a team. We will keep in touch and explain the working process in details. You will see our progress, successes, and failures. You will see how we gain the experience in the game developing process as well as be feel happy for our success.

Risks and challenges

It is the first project for our team. We make all the efforts to put it to life but surely not everything can be predicted, and the process itself brings us many surprises. Still what is important for us is that someone believes and supports us. Feeling your support helps us to work efficiently.
Possible risk we might face is exceed the time limits.
We have chosen the simple project specifically to minimize too extreme goals for ourselves. We are concentrated on the colorfull graphics, positive emotions, and on creation of good atmosphere for our players so they get the greatest enjoyment possible. We ask lovers of blood and terrible monsters their pardon. May be someday we will try to create this kind of mobile games, but not today, when environmental issues are people’ main concern around the world.
