It's been an amazing month, we are so excited it successfully funded! Our sincerest thanks to each of you in helping us realize our dream to share art with more people! We hope you will keep up with all the Studio news as we move forward getting our brick and mortar location open!
My dream is to create an amazing Studio space dedicated to mixed-media artists and art journalers. A place of inspiration, where you can take a weekend long instructor led workshop, bring your kids for a summer art class, schedule an art journaling party for you and your friends, or just stop by for “open studio days” to journal with your own supplies. I also want to share this space with people online through live streaming and web-based classes. Art journaling benefits everyone and this will be a stupendous opportunity to share it with more people. The first time I can find mention of opening a “live” studio in my art journals is almost 4 years ago, I've definitely been thinking about this a long time. The last year or so, I have been doing more soul searching and some serious research, and suddenly everything has fallen into place in just the last few weeks. The time is now, I can just feel it! I am so beyond thrilled and ecstatic about this new adventure in my life. One of the reasons I love kickstarter so much is that it’s a platform for dreamers and doers. With so many hearts and hands, dreams can come true much faster together than with one person alone...like they say "many hands make light work".
UPDATE: I hope you will take a moment to read project update #2 as it expresses better my thoughts, vision and feelings about the project!
We are being very budget conscious to get the Studio open, every dollar will be put to good use. First, we will secure the initial lease on the AMAZING spot we found--it’s the perfect location, the perfect size and the perfect price--a trifecta! Then, we will need to spiffy it up a quite a bit. New paint is a must, removal of the wall of mirrors (it was a dance studio), plumbing to install two fabulous art sinks, two new ceiling fans (to help air circulation with the tall ceilings), store fixtures and furniture, security system, permits/inspections, student chairs, classroom tables, artist quality art supplies for student use and good lighting.
Thank you so much for wanting to be a Dream Maker and supporting Artspiration Studio! You can support the Studio by making a pledge and in return you will receive fantabulous rewards. The way kickstarter works is that it is all or nothing funding, we have to raise the full amount or you aren't charged and we don't get any of the money. So please share everywhere you can, on your blogs, Facebook and Twitter. I know we can make this happen with your help, THANK YOU! (Please Note: Funds will not be verified, held or charged until the campaign deadline of May 3rd 11:59 PM MDT (aka May 4th 2:59 AM EDT) assuming we hit our goal of course).
Update on rewards #1! I also added a FAQ about the collage sheets at the bottom of this page!

The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in my heritage. At least 4 generations of our family have owned their own businesses in Arizona, working hard to make their dreams come true. For the last four years I have been teaching a yearly, 52 week digital/mixed-media art journaling class online called the “Art Journal Caravan”. I have also been selling my digital designs and teaching other Photoshop, art journaling and mixed-media classes for almost six years. The years before that were filled with a variety of unique jobs and experiences such as owning five seasonal Christmas stores and managing 30+ employees, owning and teaching at my own preschool, and managing a multi-agent real-estate office which included doing all the payroll and bookkeeping. I believe it is this eclectic skill set that will help me run a successful art studio business, as I know full well what owning a business means and what I’m getting myself into! My husband Dave is also a huge help in making this dream come true. He hand makes all of my art journals and is quite an artist himself; he will be running a good portion of the Studio behind the scenes (he does so much no one ever sees) and our “soon to be expanded" Etsy business. You can find me on the Studio Tangie blog, Studio Tangie Facebook page and Pinterest.
One of the things I'm so excited about is the "Grand Opening Canvas", as I've come to call it. This canvas will be approximately 4f tx 3ft and will be painted according the dynamics of the kickstarter campaign. Each reward level represents a different "layer" that will be added to the canvas to create a richly textured abstract cosmic painting. Earlier this year I did a "test" of this style in my art journal and fell in love with it. I thought this would be the perfect way to experiment with it larger! The names of the backers will hang next to the painting in the Studio with an explanation of how the painting was created.
You can use this new pledge badge to share the word far and wide on your blogs and social media. It's square too! Making it perfect for Instagram. When possible you can link them up to our short URL: http://kck.st/12lx6Om
Risks and challenges
I truly believe that I have the experience necessary to accomplish this project and overcome any obstacles we may face along the way. The biggest risk is the possibility of the location we want becoming unavailable before we are able to sign the lease, in which case, we will diligently seek another suitable spot. Should any unforeseen issues arise preventing us from securing a location in a timely manner, I can fulfill all the art/tangible rewards from my home studio (live and recorded workshops may be delayed until the new location is secured).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
