What is Bag Lady?
It is a theatrical production of a one-woman show, starring Tammi Mac. Bag Lady is an epic saga of true stories, about a woman who carries the bags of her past, into each of her relationships with men. The more relationships she encounters, the more bags she drags, which leads her into a whirlwind of bad decisions. When she finally connects her past to her present, she discovers the key to unlock the leash of bags that have bound her. Bag Lady is a hilarious, yet tear jerking dramedy, that recounts actual episodes of Tammi Mac’s life and the life of some of her very best friends. Laugh til you cry and cry til you laugh at what is probably, YOUR STORY too. “BAG LADY”.

Why "Bag Lady"?
If you are harboring bags from your past. It's time to turn around... and drop the bags. Live your full life! Every person has carried bags from one relationship to the next. Those bags have often sabotaged the very relationship we seek. Bag Lady details the "true stories" of me and some of my best friends' most intimate, destructive and volatile relationships with men in a VERY comical way. Bag Lady takes you on a journey of a woman's evolution to take responsibility for her own actions and choices in each of those relationships ....... finally allowing her to drop the bags.
Have I produced successful projects?
I am executive producer of one of the most successful industry showcases in Los Angeles, California, Mac's Minute Microphone Mixer in association with actress Vanessa Bell Calloway (What's Love Got To Do WIth It, Coming To America, Hawthorne). Its' proven success has kept the Mixer alive for 3 years and running. It is a monthly event held at the legendary, Regency West, which is home to a slew of African-American comedians, including, Robin Harris, Jamiee Foxx, Whoopi Goldberg, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock and more. The "Mixer", is a love-project that services up and coming performers, connecting them with industry executives from talent agencies, film directors, casting directors to producers of web-series, independent films and more. Actors, comedians and singers have booked jobs on television shows, films and stage productions through this showcase. Industry guest have included, directors, John Singleton, Anthony Hemmingway, Jeff Byrd, casting directors, Robi Reed, Twinkie Byrd, Leah Daniels-Butler, producers, Reggie Bythewood, Gina Prince Bythewood, Bill Duke, Robert Townsend and more. Our Mixer stage explodes with talent. See for yourself how we do it:
My job as the show's host and executive producer is to make artists and industry guests feel comfortable, so they give their best. Much like the stage production of, "Bag Lady", I loosen them up with a performance based on my, "Personal True Hollywood Stories":
Other successful projects include the launch of my all-female sketch comedy web-series, High Estrogen. I executive produce, direct and write the series, which also features guest directors. Me and my girls take being a woman to the next level:
CAUTION: Laugh til' you piss on yo'self funny!
How will "Bag Lady" funds be used?
A portion of the budget for this project is a projected $15,500. We will utilize 100% of those funds on the production of "Bag Lady", the one-woman stage show.
Funds will assist in production costs, including:
1. Director, lights, sound, venue, stage manager, set design, props, and tech.
2. In many of my productions, I try to bring something different. This one - woman show, Bag Lady, will include original music and the usage of multi-media (video, special effects, graphics) The funding will off-set those costs.
3. There is no production without an audience. Therefore, we will need to incorporate advertising through the following media outlets:
Radio, flyers, buttons, television, social media, billboard, newspaper, L.A. Stage Alliance, Backstage West and other industry magazines.
4. Non-traditional publicity is key in stage plays in Los Angeles. We will utilize videos, photographs and a publicist to get the word out via press-releases and personal relationships. This will also assist in getting industry executives to attend the production, which helps the goal of taking the stage show to the next level, i.e., short film, independent film, TV pilot,web-series, perhaps..... BROADWAY!!! Yayyyy.
The only way we can reach these goals is to reach our financial backing goal. Your being on "Team Tammi" will make that and more happen!
What happens to the funds if you exceed your goal?
If our campaign exceeds the $15,500 goal, (God Willing) those funds will allow us to continue the web-series currently in production. Here are some behind-the-scene photos during production of Bag Lady, the web-series:
Have you contributed to any Kickstarter Projects?
ABSOLUTELY! I believe in Kickstarter and what it does for people with high dreams and tall ambitions, but low funds and short budgets. I do and will continue to be a catalyst for other producers who have projects that I connect to and that resonate with my soul. The most recent kickstarter projects I have supported are:
The Gold Dust Orphans
House of Bella
Jenn-Jenn Single Release and Industry Release Pre-View Party
Will You see a return on Your investment?
If you are a lover of the arts and want to continue to see that it thrives, Bag Lady is a wonderful opportunity to fund this theatre arts project. It is produced by an up and coming producer, with extraordinary television/film credits and a huge fan base in the second largest state in the nation, Los Angeles, California.
Keep in mind, this is NOT an investment opportunity. No funds will be returned from the outcome of this project. We have created several reward options for different level of backers. Bag Lady is worth your backing! The emotional return and healing of hearts that audiences are destined to experience from this stage show is simply..... priceless. Thank you, for giving it wings to soar!
Risks and challenges
The risks with a one-woman show generally involve, vulnerability. All of the stories are based on true stories of me and the lives of my very best friends. Exposing yourself to an unknown audience can be extremely intimidating. You hope that someone will see your story and be touched, healed and grow from it. You hope that the information exposed will not be used against you. A successful campaign certainly further builds my confidence and passion for this project. Therefore, once the goal is reached, I know those vulnerabilities will be well worth it, knowing that someone else out there believes these stories should be told to uplift, inspire and motivate wounded women into a world of healing.
We live in a world where financial support for the arts is a tremendously difficult proposition. However, support for the arts will always be a necessary investment. Films will always need distributors, songs will always need to be recorded, mixed and mastered, and pieces of visual art will always need to be put on display to the public. By investing in "Bag Lady", you are not just investing in a project, but in the catapulting of careers of those who made the project happen. That includes a union of different skill sets - design, graphics, animators, lighting designers, crew members - and every person working on this project is an essential component to its' complete realization. Your generous backing of this project, will not only help it come to life, but help kickstart the careers of all those supremely talented individuals who have a hand in its production.
But the biggest risk of all comes in the form of this very page. Unlike other fundraising sites, Kickstarter has an all or none policy. If I don't make at the least the $15,500 goal, I get NOTHING! NOT a single penny! I'm confident that I have a production uniquely bursting with SUCCESS! YOU being on Bag Lady's "Team Tammi", will see it all come to fruition!
Let's KICKSTART BAG LADY!!!
