The product | Issue 6: Tales of the Alive
We have taken every consideration to design our magazine as a beautiful and practical product. Using a heavyweight cover paper with an added coating ensures the longevity of the magazine. Silk-coated pages allow you to immerse yourself in the vibrancy of tales and visuals between them.
The new slightly smaller size means you can take it anywhere and everywhere with you! We thought A4 was a little tricky to fit in all bags, and the corners would often get damaged in the business of everyday life. So we came to this neat conclusion: we kept the width the same, but gave the height a well-needed trim. This kept the space for beautiful artwork and a readable font size, and also lets Tales live harmoniously in your bag.
Vote on your choice for the limited edition cover
We have designed an extra special limited edition collectible cover, especially for the Issue 6 Kickstarter. On the inside of the cover you can read an exclusive interview with the cover photographer. We have had a tough time choosing which cover to use for the limited edition collectible run and we love to listen to our readers. So we've decided to let you choose what cover you prefer for this extra special collectible edition. All you have to do to have your say is to choose one of the limited edition backer rewards and vote when the Kickstarter closes!
What's going to be featured in Tales of the Alive?
Alongside creative writing pieces, poems and articles we have striking visuals and illustrations to ad. Without giving too much away, here is a selection of what you can expect in Issue 6: Tales of the Alive.

Who and What is Tales?
Tales is a creative, submission-based magazine. We bring readers on a magical journey through timeless stories, beautiful imagery, and design-led composition. We offer moments of nostalgia and escapism, with limited print runs ensuring that every issue remains as special as our readers.
Tales so far
We've had over 200 contributors for the past 5 issues - without any budget! Within weeks of starting up, our founders won Brainchild, a business innovation competition held at Norwich University of the Arts. We’ve had radio features, spotlights from our digital publishers at Issuu, and reached international milestones, with contributions coming in from as far as Japan.
What makes Tales different to other art publications?
Tales creates opportunities for contributors. We are passionate about creative rights. We give creatives with fair representation, creative control over their work, retained rights, social media features, and a published magazine spread to include in their portfolio.
This is what makes us different to other magazines. We look after our contributors and our readers, equally. Building a creative open platform means everything to us. The Tales community is based on a shared love of art, transparency, and recognising the value of creative pursuit.
Past issues of Tales
Every issue of Tales has had its own theme. We investigated in Tales of the Curious, we journeyed in Tales of the Explorer, we soared up with Tales of the Airborne and we shuddered with horror in Tales of All Hallows' Eve, before finding new strength in Tales of the Empowered. Who knows what mysteries Tales of the Alive will hold?!
We have worked with creatives from across the world from different backgrounds and at different stages in their careers. From filmmakers to illustrators, from astronomers to opera singers, every issue will hold a surprise between its pages. We want to inspire, encourage and support creatives worldwide.
We offer advertorial collaborations. Here are some of the brands we have worked with in the past.

The Tales Kickstarter goal
Tales has already launched online with 5 digital issues available to the public. Through this Kickstarter campaign we want to raise enough money and interest to print physical copies and cultivate a wider audience, grow our creative community, and create engaged and happy readers. As a startup, we are flexible and adaptable to this ever-changing digital climate. As an independent magazine we cover timeless topics and publish art that resonates with us, our contributors and our readers.
We’re not at the mercy of advertisers, like many other ‘independent’ magazines. However, we do love to work with emerging and artistic brands, collaborating on creating beautiful content. We only choose to produce content that we truly believe in.
Where does all the money go?
With this Kickstarter goal, we will be able to...
- Cover the costs of printing the magazine
- Cover the costs of the product rewards
- Pay for postage and packaging
- Pay for Kickstarter fees
Our stretch goals for the Kickstarter include...
- Budget for a London launch event
- Pre-fund the next magazine Issue 7: Tales of Forever
- Pay future creatives on a freelance basis
- Fund more bespoke content
To everyone who has made this Kickstarter campaign possible!
Risks and challenges
If you're worried about any delays on content, or the magazine not being laid out on time... fear not! We have all the content together and arranged and ready to go as soon as the Kickstarter closes. Rock and roll, baby!
Printing and delivery delays? We have carefully budgeted for a high-quality, trusted printer with a confirmed timeframe, so this shouldn’t be a problem. We also have an incredibly efficient printer and, once posted off, should arrive with you in a couple of days!
Not reaching our goal would be the biggest challenge. This would mean that Tales won't go into print, which also means no launch! Boo!
Despite all these precautions, there is always a small chance of complications during the manufacturing process out of our control. If such scenario should occur, then we will keep the backers fully informed via our updates page as we walk you through the process. We will keep you updated monthly, at the very least :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
