Meow Remix is a cat-themed rhyme game. Every player input generates a musical note, and causes the cat on the screen to do one cute trick. Overall, the idea is somehow like a video sampler and a DJ’s mixer for scratching rolled into one.
You have a turntable and a sampling button at the bottom of the screen, in the shape of cat paws, then manipulate the cat’s animation to the background music. It’s conceptualized as a rhyme game for cat lovers.
The launch window of Meow Remix, according to the plan, is Q4 2016. The game will be released on all mainstream mobile platforms, including iOS, Android, and Windows 10. We will start with a relatively simple version 1.0, then continuously iterate.

Since Moew Remix is presented in the Japanese “kawaii” style, it’s better to adopt a simplistic UI design, to make the element of cuteness really pop out. We picked a light background color, and tried to reproduce the soft texture of cat footpads. For the game prototype, originally we used numbers to mark different input cues. To emphasize the game’s visual style, eventually we replaced numbers with color codes.
From the top to bottom, the user interface is divided into four sections: player information, cat show, visual cue, and buttons.
Player information: You can find the player’s avatar, stamina, score and current combo here.
Cat show: Cuteness showdown. This is where you can see cats doing different tricks according to player input.
Visual cue: Visual cues are shown here, telling players which button to press at each specific moment, and whether or not the previous input was a successful hit.
Buttons: An array of buttons in different colors. The player should press these according to the visual cue, to produce musical notes and cat animation.
In dancing mode, a tutor cat will make a demonstration of the entire dance routine, then the player hits buttons according to the visual cue, to lead his/her own cat through the same routine step by step.
In fighting mode, the player’s cat dodges and attacks with each success beat. The last cat standing wins.
In parkour mode, the player’s cat needs to dash its way through a path of obstacles and pitfalls. The player makes his/her cat to dodge or vault by hitting buttons following the visual cue and musical rhyme.
The player can choose from a clan of cats in the “cat den”, each with its own unique abilities, and receives special bonuses on different stages. The animation of each cat is decided by its body build.
Cats color design
The player can place baits on stages, to capture stage-specific cats. Captured cats will become selectable characters in the cat den.
All stage maps are based on pictures taken in cat havens in the real world, featuring their unique scenes and landmarks. The gaming experience is a grand tour through a world of cats.
Every stage has collectible pictures, unlockable when the player reaches certain criteria. They feature either cute cats or beautiful landscapes.
Mobile platforms ( IOS / Android / Windows 10 )
The game will be released on all mainstream mobile platforms, including iOS, Android, and Windows 10. We will start with a relatively simple version 1.0, then continuously iterate.
The game will be adapted for Steam, released in both downloadable digital. The development of the steam version required to pass steam greenlight , and is only to be produced upon reaching a certain funding level.
Nintendo 3DS platform
The game will be adapted for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console, released in both downloadable digital and physical cartridge forms. The development of the 3DS version requires a Nintendo developer license, and is only to be produced upon reaching a certain funding level.
About cat havens features in the game, we hope keep them clean and intact. If anyone is inspired by the game and wants to see these places in person, please take care to not damage or disrupt the local environment. For those who love cats or have already got pet cats, please treat your feline friends as part of your family. Don’t abandon them. Life is extremely tough for stray cats.
We believe the popular model of “free download plus in-game microtransaction” is beneficial to both players and developers, if executed in the right way. We are trying to find a balance for in-game purchase. This is supposed to be a cute and entertaining casual game, not a microtransaction bait.

Risks and challenges
Moew Remix is a relatively small project, but not without its fair share of challenge. Fortunately, we have already made it through the prototype phase. So far we have resolved a series of technical difficulties, and made a playable demo. The next step is polishing and fine-tuning, to further impress our users. In order to improve the game, your feedback is greatly appreciated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
