The Reclaim the Thunder US & European Tour seeks to offer 15 free shows to organizations and schools with your support!
Taína Asili’s “Reclaim the Thunder Tour”
Albany, NY based international ensemble Taína Asili y la Banda Rebelde will embark this fall 2012 on the Reclaim the Thunder Tour, a US and European tour which will include free performances for social justice organizations, community centers and schools. Your Kickstarter support will contribute towards offering free performances to at least 15 select organizations in the US and Europe to assist with their consciousness and fundraising efforts. Our group has a long history of bringing a radical voice to the arts in the form of musical performances and workshops. Our Kickstarter campaign offers our backers a unique opportunity to support a distinctive and powerful model of connecting art and social change. With your support we will commune to create transformative spaces to inspire those working for necessary change, and bring the inspiration we gather from their work back with us to our own communities.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Taína Asili y la Banda Rebelde (www.tainaasili.com), is a unique fusion of Afro-Caribbean/Latin American, reggae, and rock sounds, and represents the diverse origins of our band members: Puerto Rican vocalist Taína Asili, Sicilian guitarist Gaetano Vaccaro, Greek drummer Kiki Vassilakis, Spanish vocalist Alicia Ortiz, Brazilian/Australian bassist Sean Muniz and Ghanaian master drummer Saeed Abbas. Our songs combine high-energy and heartfelt lyrics, sung in several multiple languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese and kiSwahili, inspiring listeners to dance to the movement of rebellion. Taína Asili y la Banda Rebelde released their debut album War Cry in 2010, which has already begun to gain national and international attention. Journalist Josh Potter of The Metroland, Albany, NY’s alternative newsweekly, describes War Cry as “a pan-global roots-musical mélange that appeals to the struggle of tradition to envision a world of social justice.”
ABOUT THE TOUR
Our music seeks to document our histories, educates about the present, acknowledges our lived experiences, celebrate our humanity in the face of great oppression, and help people to make decisions about the world we wish to see and ways to actualize that change. Many organizations see the importance of incorporating radical musical performances into their efforts in order to make their work stronger and more successful, often in the form of consciousness raising efforts such as conferences, workshops, or benefit concerts. But often our most important organizations and schools struggle with the funding necessary to bring these performances to their community. The Reclaim the Thunder Tour is an opportunity to help bridge this gap, and bring radical music performance and community work together in a way that is strategic and sustainable. Your Kickstarter support will provide the funds to cover all the necessary expenses, such as transportation, meals and accommodations, to bring us to their towns.
YOUR KICKSTARTER SUPPORTOur $15,000 goal will bring the Reclaim the Thunder Tour to at least 10 select organizations in the US and at least 5 in Europe. With the way that Kickstarter works, this is an all-or-nothing campaign, meaning if we fall short of our goal we won't receive any of the contributions raised. To show our appreciation for your support, we are offering some special incentives, including song downloads, CD’s, t-shirts, posters and more. We invite you to join us on this powerful journey with your Kickstarter support.
The money from your pledge is not taken out of your account until the project is fully funded on March 11th. If the project is not fully funded by that time no money will be taken.
