Bittersweet Candy Bowl is an online comic about love, friendship and broken hearts we’ve been telling since 2006. Every couple of years, we put another part of the story into a lovingly-made new book. It’s time for the fifth!
With cute characters and everyday problems, people get addicted to this teen drama! Who can’t identify with crappy breakups, jealous boyfriends, and prom-bound limousines? It’ll hook you too: start back in 2006 and binge-read ’til you’re up to date, but as a quick taster we suggest this chapter about Stacy’s secret MMORPG shame.
With your support, we think we can deliver another book of anxious teenagers in May!
And it’s almost ready to print. We just got the sample copy:
Like all our books, it’s not just what you can read online. After we poured hours into tweaks and cleanup…
…we made fifteen (15!) new pages of comics! Hope as Jordan tries to make it work with Roxy! Despair as Rachel reaches for a relationship she can’t have! Cringe as Abbey nearly blows Stacy’s cover!
Compared to fourteen in Volume One, twelve in Volume Two, thirteen in Volume Three and ten in Volume Four, it’s the most pages of bonus comics we’ve put in a book yet.
Wait, you don’t have those books either? That’s so many book-exclusive comics you’re missing! Lucky for you, we’re doing something special. We invite you to:
We don’t want your Volume Fives sitting all alone on the shelf. We want your collection fully up to date! So for this Kickstarter, we’re offering a “Complete Your Collection” reward to fix that.
Just pick any “Complete Your Collection” reward (starting as cheap as $69!) and we will send you all those books you’re missing — just tell us which after the Kickstarter’s over!
Got an old Volume One? We’ll fill in Two through Five. Won an Ask Roseville High when we launched our blog? Well, we’ll send you every Volume of the real story! Missing just a couple of books? Whatever you need!
The only caveat: those who you who ask for Volume One will get an eBook, because we ran out. But the rest are real and physical! Volume Two, Three, Four and Ask Roseville High!
And yes, you can totally max it out and get the whole set. For $69. All we ask is you support us by pledging for Volume Five!
We’ve designed a Daisy plush to match Lucy, Mike and Paulo! And after hitting $25,000, she’s going into production!
Just like the other toys: 8 inches head-to-toe, plus a pearl necklace and fluffy tail. We skipped her the first time around due to the added complexities of her design, but with your help we’re completing the quartet!
The Daisy plush is available individually as a reward choice, and also as a $25 (US delivery) \ $32 (non-US delivery) add-on to existing pledges.
You can keep your existing reward while adding a Daisy to your pledge. Here’s how you could add-on a Daisy plush if you pledged for the $89 Gold Edition reward:
That’s all it takes. We’ll check all pledges with the extra amount added and pack her alongside your other rewards.
But wait, there’s more:
For years we’ve sold various charms for phones, backpacks, keyrings and everything else. But between our time in Akihabara and anime conventions last year, clear acrylic charms became a little bit of an obsession. They’re more expensive to make, but they look clean and pretty and special. So we designed some!
We’ve picked out super deluxe models, 2.2″ tall, double layered 2.5mm + 2.5mm acrylic with colour-coordinated straps. And they’re our next set of stretchgoals:
Just like the Daisy plush (or in addition to her, if you want!) you can add $10 to your pledge to get one (same if you’re in the US or out.) Add $20 for two, and so on. We’ll ask which character(s) you want at the end of the campaign.
Because we reached the $30,000 stretchgoal, all Gold Editions (rewards priced at $79, $99 and above) will come with a free acrylic charm of your choice. And, of course, you can add a second with $10, a third with $20, etc. There’s Rachel, Augustus, Paulo, Sue, Daisy, Abbey, Lucy, David, Mike and Sandy. They’re all unlocked, you can pick any and all.
In addition to all that, we’ve got lots more to pick from! Some highlights:
There’s more, too: personalized watercolor paintings (like this!), personalized mini-comics (like this!), two final book covers with these crafty laser-cut logos, and this unique(ly long) convention banner. If you’re interested in the big rewards, check out the post we wrote about them.
Thanks so much for checking out our project!
Risks and challenges
This project is much like our successful 2013 Kickstarter for the printing of BCB Volume Three: the work is basically done, the product is simple, and the supplier is one we’re comfortable with. We shipped Volume Three on time, and we are confident we can do the same again with Volume Five. We’ve yet to disappoint a single Kickstarter backer in our five years on the site, and we plan to keep things that way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
