My Story -
Are you tired of people handing you a beer, only to ask for you to twist the cap off for them? So you put your shirt over the cap and twist so you don't hurt your hands. Well... I was tired of it, so I sat down and starting drawing.
I have a very small hobby sized CNC Mill in my Garage that I made prototypes on, and started giving them out for people to test. I would then get some feedback and further tweak the design. I used 6061-T6 Aluminum because for the price you won't find a lighter stronger metal, it's even lighter than Titanium. With my current hobby mill it would take me 4 times as long per part if I used Titanium, further raising the reward price, and we don't want that.
So now I'm here on Kickstarter to share my product design with all of you. I have seen other bottle openers on here do pretty well, and it seems there is a demand for multifunctional keychains that are light and look good too. I haven't seen anything like my design and am hoping the general public will like the idea of it. Where I live every bottle of beer I've ever grabbed was a twist top, that is the original reason for my design, I then found out about Kickstarter, and am here to hopefully share it with you..
My Goal -
My goal is to produce enough Aluminum Bottle Grenades to move up to a better CNC Mill so I can make them out of Stainless Steel, Titanium, and other exotic metals and hopefully produce them at a cheaper price then possible now. I also have other prototype keychains made in aluminum that need to be made out of Stainless or Titanium due to the work they perform. So hopefully this project is a success and you all can see what else I have dreamed up. I promise you will like it. :)
Pictures - Bare with me here, I'm not a photographer....
Wear it -
~You can wear it as a fashion statement. Place your favorite beverage cap in the opposite way you would twist one off, and it will stay there all day, work or play.
Screw it -
~You can use it as a 1/4" tool bit holder, throw a Philips bit in there and change batteries in your child's favorite train.
Twist it -
~You can twist the top off very easily, the fit is a very close tolerance fit and the cap will feel like it twists itself off due to the improved torque -
Wrench it -
~Wrench on a 7/16" bolt head which I picked due to it being the bolt head size of the very popular 1/4-20 bolt used alot in the USA. You can order it with any size HEX as long as it fits, check the rewards for details. You also have 4 holes to place your keyrings in, or whatever else you can dream up, like Para Cord ;)
Pop it -
~Instead of destroying your bottle caps by prying and prying with normal bottle openers I came up with this design which has proven a huge success -
~Here is a close up of the slight dent left in the center of the cap (Between the t and the i). My opener design has went through alot of trial and error to get it to this point. Due to the improved leverage you will have pried the cap off before you know it, just ask my grandma (kidding), try that with any other run-of-the-mill bottle opener.
FIXED - CLICK HERE >> However some caps may not fit in the twist off part so you won't be able to wear them without slight modification of the cap, so... if this is the case I can always twist off a Platinum cap and send it with, for free. Or you could always tie the Bottle Grenade to the Beer Fridge with ParaCord instead of wearing it, now has a magnet! Wooo :) --- I'm working on a fix right now << FIXED
Crack it -
~Finally, you can crack open a soda if you happen to chew your fingernails, or just want to. This one came as an accident but I have to say it works fantastic. (I'd like to thank my wife for modeling this one, nice finger placement hunny!)
Stick it -
~ New Years Stick It Special (Limited Edition) - The picture shows a different magnet than you will receive, yours will look much better and be alot stronger. Get ready to throw this thing across the room at your fridge to Stick it!
So while my photography or story may not be as good as others, the design is what this is all about and I hope you feel like pledging so you can have one of these and share it with your friends.
Thanks for looking!
If you watched my unedited video, you will see my 3 year old opening an adult beverage, it is only for video purposes, and it's unedited to prove there are no camera tricks. I do not condone underage drinking, and my 3 year old was only modeling the Bottle Grenade to prove how easy it really is, and yes, that was the first time he has used it.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
What would be my risks and challenges if this project is successfully funded?
I guess that depends on the demand. These will all be made and inspected by me in my garage, not some offshore mass producing facility. Each one will be in my hands through multiple processes to get the surface finish and feel that I expect. Along the way I know there will be rejects and they may get shipped off to people who just donate $5 as a thank you, instead of going in the scrap bucket, that is if I'm allowed to do that.
So I guess if the demand is way bigger than expected, in order to keep the integrity of the part I may have to work all night, or take vacation from work, but I don't expect there to be any late orders, although it is always still a possibility, but don't worry if yours is late, I'll make it up somehow!
