Volfyirion is a fast-paced competitive deck-building card game for two players. Lead your House into war and employ everything you have to destroy your opponent cities while building your defenses.

Beware of the Dragon Volfyirion, a dreadful creature powerful enough to wipe out entire regions. It decided to create its lair in the ruins near your settlements and is now a constant threat to your forces.

Will you be strong enough to bend the dragon's will and have it unleash its wrath on the battlefield against your enemies?

Each card, when played, provides its owner different kinds of resources (aka Points) that can be each spent in multiple ways. Command Points, Battle Points, Knowledge Points are always useful even in small amounts, allowing the players to take lots of actions during their turn. Cards do also possess colors that when matched together can create powerful combos and trigger additional effects.

However, such mechanic is not just tied to the hand you draw! Upgrading cities with buildings is also a key part of the game: once a building is erected it both generates resources and contributes in combos every turn. More complex strategies can really push the opponent in a corner, turn after turn!

But, if you were to prefer more straightforward plans... spectacular head-on attacks are an option too! Isn’t it nice to spend those hard-earned Command Points on top tier cards, picking them together and unleash a mighty combo to your enemy? What a better way to break your opponent’s morale than directly destroying one of their beloved cities?

Oh... yes, we know, we know. Sometimes annoying things like Troops could stand in your way to victory. Or maybe you just do not like to dent your shiny weapons. We got you covered on that too, it may appear a little expensive at first, but we are talking about wiping out an entire city, buildings and troops along with it in one swift move. Condemn a City with the mark of Volfyirion and let the dragon bring fear to the heart of your rival!

During our Mysthea Kickstarter campaign, we received a ton of requests from our backers wondering if there was a chance to tell the story of the Volarees Guild’s Dragon. We decided to set our new game in this amazing universe to finally tell the tale of the dreadful dragon Volfyirion.

The process of designing Volfyirion was extremely exciting. We took this opportunity to expand game lore and Mysthea history, while also working with Travis to create a Dragon that could fit this amazing universe.

At first we thought Volfyirion should be represented with its head up right, to better showcase its design and shape. After working on it a bit, we decided that it wasn’t dynamic enough for a dreadful dragon. We tried to move the head aside but it didn’t really enhance all the features of the dragon.

The dragon design was solid though, so we decided to work more on the pose. At first we tried to point Volfyirion’s face upwards with all its tail down on the ground and its claws up in the air. We felt it was cool, but it wasn’t much of a dragon posture. Lastly, we tried to take advantage of its peculiar shape and we developed the last pose on the right.

We gathered a lot of feedback and we understood that this pose was really appreciated. We believe that Volfyirion with its tail wrapped around its body and the menacing look is the one that represents it better and we decided to go down this route.

This pose showcases all its might and how dangerous it would be to face it. It's also really easy to grip, and that's a plus since the mini gets moved a lot on the Card Game!

We know that a lot of mini painters are going to work on this mini, so we decided to see what the results could be and we asked Bellerofonte Art Studio powered by Kimera Models (Francesco Farabi, Pietro Balloni, Matteo Di Diomede) to paint a resin prototype of Volfyirion. The results are amazing. See for yourself!

We decided to create this Graphic Novel, illustrated by Eren Arık, to engage with our community and to create the story that would lead to the events of this campaign video.

The plot has been community sourced, we have been giving each week choices to our readers on how the plot should've advance. This is the final result!

Sixty years before the breakthrough which brought the Champions of Ilvash to the Five floating islands, the lands of Mysthea were a radically different place: the wars of the Somber Years just ended and at this point in time only two states were ruling the lands floating above Icaion.

These two states were the forces which during the Somber Years conquered all other smaller states, expanding their dominion over all known land. As they grew in power, the Kingdom of Ahatils and the Kitrean Empire, remained on the brink of conflict.

While skirmishes and various small battles still took place at the border between the two forces, they persisted for the moment in a kind of truce while recovering from the previous conflict, and preparing for the inevitable great war between them to come.

King Retudran Ahatils, being too occupied with the happenings and potential troubles at the front as he was, was not interested in managing the lands he had already conquered during the Somber Years, viewing governance as a trivial and unimportant task to be delegated. In the King’s heart, he remained more conqueror than ruler.

Administration of the newly conquered provinces was delegated to the King’s trustworthy ex-military commanders who had showed ability in the field. As a reward for their services, the King would grant them a household name, and the power to manage and rule over certain provinces- granted that the King himself would retain true ownership of the lands. But in time it became clear that the provinces were terribly unruly and unlawful, and the King was interested neither in overseeing nor imposing his will or law. Therefore, each province became autonomous in its own decision making. And moreover, each province developed to be different from the next.

The King trusted his men to a certain degree, but he also felt the need to establish some method to ensure they would never play clever tricks on him. So, he established that each province should act as a watchdog of its neighbors, reporting directly to him in the event of any unusual whispers of trouble.

In the region of Rykalad there was once a powerful and proud kingdom that fought valiantly before losing the war against Ahatils during the Somber Years. This kingdom’s capital, the city of Kyradar, was built over an intensely powerful anomaly which to this day remains active deep below the city. This anomaly amplifies the way in which Qoam resonates, allowing the former citizens of the conquered city to develop peculiar abilities such as the ability to forge objects with rare properties.

This kingdom’s heritage was uniquely shaped by the presence of such a strong power. The capital together with its six satellite provinces was once a peaceful kingdom interested solely in scholarly pursuits and the study of Qoam manipulation.

When King Athalis reached the region of Rykalad during the Somber Years, it became clear to him how dependent the city of Kyradar had become on its six provinces. He henceforth decided that the best way to conquer the region would be to first overtake these satellite cities and then proceed to siege the capital

His strategy was victorious and after his conquest the former city of Kyradar devolved into wild and uninhabited ruins while the King’s men ruled the region from the surrounding six cities. He could restore the city to its former glory after the war ended; there was no need to waste resources now. But when the war finally ended, the King had nearly forgotten about Kyradar and forsook the city where it lay in utter ruin.

Two Houses were assigned to manage these lands: the Volarees House and the Rorius House, each one with three cities under their control.

Life in these areas was not much different from life in other conquered lands, with the two Houses ruling the lands and maintaining a watchful eye over each other’s deeds. This continued until the ominous day that a terrible beast never before seen glided from the sky onto the ruins of Kyradar, likely attracted by the anomaly and the power it emanated.

The two Houses understood immediately that the beast- an incredible and fearsome dragon- was awesomely powerful and most certainly empowered by the energy from the anomaly.

The dragon remained settled in the ruins of that place while the two Houses cautiously sent scouts and explorers in attempts to comprehend the beast’s nature. Those first encounters with the dragon were terrible: many men lost their lives to these meetings. But the two houses understood from these encounters that it might be possible to use Qoam manipulation to have the dragon under their own control. With further encounters and experiments, the Houses discovered they could tame the beast, and each House rushed to do this, both wanting to reach the terrible beast before the other won its favor.

The two Houses clashed into war, trying to stop the other from gaining control of the dreadful Volfyirion.

Risks and challenges

This is our fourth Kickstarter campaign, during these years we’ve gained the expertise and know-how to confidently produce high quality games the way we envision them.

Nonetheless we’ve also learned production, quality control and shipping are delicate phases that can bring unexpected issues that may take some time to solve. For this reason the delivery date, May 2019, is an estimate. While we will do everything in our power to meet this date or even anticipate it, we are aware that slight delays are possible for reasons outside of our control. Also, exact delivery dates could vary depending on where you live.

By pledging for this project you accept the following terms:

General Terms:
-This is not a pre-order and the final product may be subject to changes and improvements from what is presented here.

-We will only answer to support requests from our backers. If you got the game somewhere else (retailer, friend, group pledge, etc.) you will have to contact us through them.

-After 30 days from the delivery date to your door, we will not accept complaints related to the game box contents of this campaign (missing components, damaged components, etc.).

-After 6 months from the shipment date, we will not accept complaints related to the shipment of items of this campaign (damaged package, lost or missing contents, etc.).

-After 12 months from the shipment date, we will not accept any complaints related to this campaign.

Refunds:
-An order can be canceled and fully refunded before the end of the campaign by clicking on the applicable button on Kickstarter.
After the end of the campaign, the order can still be canceled within 14 days by sending us an email with your cancellation request. Please note that in this case the refund will not include the processing costs and Kickstarter fees, which will be deducted from your total. Apart from the cases specified here, the order is considered valid and is not refundable.

Shipping:
-It’s ultimately your responsibility to respond to our post-campaign survey to claim your rewards and to give us information about your shipping address and add-on choices. If you ignore our last call email for more than 4 weeks we will consider your pledge a donation and we won’t be able to ship you a reward.

-If the game fails to arrive because of your mistake (wrong address, recipient absent, failure to pick up at courier/postal warehouse, etc.), any additional shipping/warehousing cost for us to re-send/re-deliver your game will be your responsibility. This also includes the costs associated with returning the game. If after investigation it becomes clear that the error was on our part, we will resend your package at our expense.

-If the package is lost, destroyed or damaged, the carrier will be held solely responsible. Any customer claim to the carrier needs to be made at the time of delivery, not later. If the package seems damaged, please ask the postal carrier to make you a receipt "accepted with reserve".

-Please note that we will not reship any game without first investigating what happened to the first shipment.

-If your game arrives with missing or damaged components, provide us with proof and we will substitute them once we have verified the damage.

-If you live outside of the USA, EU, CA, AU, and JP customs taxes may be added. Please check your country's rules and regulations as this aspect will not be our responsibility.

If you are not comfortable with these terms, please do not participate in this Kickstarter Campaign.
