Icaion is an Engine Territory Building and Resource Management eurogame for 2 to 5 players and it further expands the Mysthea Universe telling the story of the society that lives beneath the sea of clouds. It is designed by Martino Chiacchiera and Marta Ciaccasassi and wonderfully illustrated by Travis Anderson.
Become a Seeker, an expert adventurer, sent out by the Organization to hunt for artifacts, Qoam, relics and remnants from ancient times. You will lead a convoy to the barren and cold lands surrounding the City bringing back as much as you can. Once outside in the dark regions, beware of the dangers that lurk in the wilderness. An infestation has been spreading from an ancient being that roams these lands and must be stopped.
Components from Mysthea and Icaion can be combined together to create a unique standalone cooperative game.

In Icaion you become a Seeker employed by the Organization to venture in the wilderness of the cold dark regions outside the City walls searching for Qoam, relics and artifacts from ancient times.
You will embark on this adventure with your convoy and you will compete with other Seekers for resources and lands. While Seekers are required by the Organization to cooperate in the wild regions, sabotage and subterfuge are always expected from the leaders of the rival expeditions.
Beware, in the farthest lands from the City a titanic being lurks, moving relentlessly while spreading an illness all over the world. This Colossus has been a mystery for the people of Icaion and you will inevitably cross its path.
As a Seeker, one of your most valuable assets is the ability to deploy machines from your convoy in specific regions, to use them to gather your riches. Your Harvesters, Scavengers and Refiners will grant you different advantages, adding depth to the game.

Far from the City walls, an ancient being roams freely, spreading an infestation every place it reaches. The Qoam it carries is ancient and pure, with unique properties that makes it invaluable for Seekers.

- Go toward this being and try to obtain its rare pieces of Primal Shards.
- Beware of the infestation of Parasites that it carries and disperses everywhere it touches.
Icaion's regions are an alive environment. An infestation is advancing and it can damage your expedition and slow down your strategy. Act fast and eradicate it before it spreads out of control.

Far from the City there are the ancient craters from which five floating islands of Mysthea detached millennia ago.
- Explore the craters and their mysterious powers.
- Gather an apparatus in the Organization headquarters and add it to your convoy.
- Activate your apparatus in the craters to take control of unique mysterious energies.
- Use Primal Shards to enhance the effects of your active apparatuses.
Icaion components can be combined with Mysthea ones to form a third fully stand-alone free game called Mysthea: The Fall.
Mysthea: The Fall is a cooperative territorial defense game for 2-5 players. A disruption in the balance of forces of the planet caused five floating islands of Mysthea to descend onto the surface of Icaion.
The two civilizations finally meet for the first time and are immediately forced to cooperate to stop the advance of frenzied creatures, attracted by the giant crystal inside the City.

The Colossus is an ancient being that roams lands far from the City, attracted by five huge craters. It carries a rare and pure form of Qoam that is highly valued by Seekers and, unfortunately, by Parasites. Where it comes from and what’s its purpose remains a mystery to this day.
Several years ago the Lone Survivor returned alone from an expedition that originally departed with fifty other Seekers. Nobody outside the senior ranks knows what happened to the other members. Since that time the Lone Survivor has remained curt and mostly unresponsive in conversation, reaching out only for essential communications and tasks.
He's the spoiled and rich heir of a huge estate of lands near the crystal, and he has always lived a comfortable and easy life under the sun as a member of the Farmers class. Some years ago he decided to find some thrill in his life and used his family influence to join the Organization, climbing the ranks quickly without any merit. He joined and started to guide expeditions only for his leisure, most often than not endangering the whole convoy with his lack of expertise combined with his unwillingness to listen to the Seekers’ advice about the harsh wilderness. The Organization has learned that he’s a liability more than anything else, but his ruthless methods and complete disregard for others allows him to do things that at the end of the day are very valuable for the Organization. Considering also that the family influence is strong, the Organization still allows him to have his little game outside the City walls even if it’s not always in the Organization’s best interests. He’s always carried around by his two personal servants so he doesn’t need to e
An autonomous machine built by the Industrialists in an effort to make expeditions without relying on the Organization. The Machine showed useful skills and a great ability for adaptation, but it was unable to work completely by itself without bringing a team on its convoy. The Industrialists’ goal to not rely on expert Seekers was far from being achieved and once they realized it wasn’t possible to recover on their investment they sold the design to the Organization to recoup the research costs incurred so far. The Organization now employs the Machine as an overseer of the most technical expeditions, in which its built in tools give it an edge.
The Creature appeared one day around the City walls and quickly demonstrated that it wasn’t a threat. It learned how to communicate perfectly in the people’s language in a matter of days, showing that it is in its nature to learn almost everything in an extremely short time. This seems to be the peculiarity of this species, they are able to learn and master even the most complex skill really quickly, but unfortunately they can do this only for a few skills at a time. This is not a major problem since they can forget and relearn things so fast that they just end up switching between skills frequently. This huge flexibility made The Creature very interesting to the Organization. Regardless of the task, the Creature is capable of spending very few days with proficient instructors and it will rapidly learn the assigned skill. The Creature always carries an object in two of its four hands and many people believe that it is this object which conveys it its learning power.
A mysterious man that was encountered far from the City, deep in the regions during an expedition years ago. A stranger of unknown origins clearly not from anywhere near the City. Although The Outsider is humanoid, it is speculated among the Seekers that he is not entirely human. After helping the Seekers with their expedition, he came to the City with them and started living in the wilderness around the walls for a while, until he was approached by the Organization, interested in employing him due to his expert knowledge of the areas outside. His in-depth understanding of the Regions allowed him to quickly make a name for himself inside the Organization, becoming one of the most efficient expedition leaders.
She’s a convicted criminal that escaped from the City years ago, having a hefty bounty on her head she would be arrested on the spot if she ever set foot in the City again. To survive the wilderness and harshness of the outside regions, she built a set of armor with thermal capabilities, to keep her warm and protected. Being unrecognizable in the armor, she was able to join a Seeker’s convoy and managed to enter the Organization undercover. She did not reveal her identity until she proved her value to the Organization leaders, who then decided to protect her due to her incredible survival and adaptation abilities on the outside. She now lives in the Organization headquarters outside the walls and outside the City jurisdiction.
This woman from the Industrialist Class has always been a talented individual able to build the most innovative machines and contraptions. Her technical and tinkering skill was unmatched among her peers, but unfortunately for her, she always had the reputation of being somewhat of a jinxed individual. This was because she always pushed to the most obscure fringes of science, so her results may either be spectacular or fail in spectacular (and sometimes very loud) ways. For her all these failures were just part of her innovative and rigorous creative method and she didn’t really care about the gossip since she knew in the end her works would speak for themselves. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and one day she lost an arm while working on some new innovative machine. This event really damaged her reputation and people became so entrenched in the conviction that she was cursed it reached the point almost nobody would work with her anymore forcing her to join the Organization to sustain herself. She tried to build the perfect mechanic substitution for her arm and over the years she experimented with and improved on different designs. Her current production is a wing-like device that she originally built hoping she could start to fly. Unfortunately it did not work, but she found out that refitting the design to hold tools and blades would make an extremely effective and dangerous weapon, so she kept her wing, at least until her unstoppable mind will bring a new creation.
Icaion is an extremely cold and dark planet, being completely engulfed by the eternal storm of clouds above. Sunlight is one of the most scarce resources and this forced civilizations to develop only on the rare places where the sun reaches the ground, allowing them to cultivate lands obtaining steady food supplies impossible to have anywhere else. These spots of sunlight are so scarce and so far away from one another, that these civilizations never met and are unaware of each other's existence.
The lands not touched by the light are barren and dangerous places, twisted by the devastating cataclysm which happened millennia ago. The effects of the crystal can vary wildly from one region to another, causing some places to have perennial snowstorms, others to be submerged in mist, others to have eternal rain and so on, with frightening weather phenomena going on in different regions. Those unstable regions offer different types of Qoam crystals.
In these unforgiving lands other forms of life developed, creating the most unimaginable and dangerous creatures. For all these reasons the barren lands are highly inhospitable and not inhabited by any civilized species. These grim places are extremely rich in treasures, Qoam and rare artifacts, making exploration always worthwhile, even if risky.
Directly below the regions of Mysthea is present one of the biggest cities of Icaion, built around the enormous crystal that comes out of the land. The crystal emanates such powerful energies that the clouds above are constantly moved by it and the City lies inside the eye of a permanent cyclone. The movement of the clouds created a permanent circle, a ring of sunlight between the crystal and clouds, where society developed over the years.
The City is divided into two circles, the first one, closer to the crystal, is where the sunlight is present. Since cultivable land is a finite and extremely rare asset, this circle is considered the core of the whole society, where the most powerful and influential individuals reside. Outside there is the "region of eternal dusk", a dark outer circle where the rest of society lives crammed as tightly as possible.
All of this is surrounded by a huge wall that encloses the whole city from the dangers present outside. The walls are a mix of natural boundaries which were thrust up by earthquakes when the crystal arose millennia ago, and artificial ones made to fill the gaps.
The inhabitants of the City have extremely limited to almost no manipulation abilities with Qoam, but they are able to use it as a fuel to power machines. The Qoam is extracted from the crystal itself, from mines that go for miles below the surface, and other new varieties are brought from the outside by Seekers themselves.
Since the sun only reaches a small circle of land around the crystal, this zone of the City is the only place where cultivation of land is possible. This made land owners in this region the most powerful and wealthy individuals of the society. Farming is considered an activity reserved exclusively for the elite, the few people that can live their life in constant sunlight.
The rest of society lives in a state of wild and ruthless capitalism, instead, with everyone crossing each other trying to find some ways to earn a better life. Citizens of the City are divided into a strict class system, where their place in society and privileges are strictly tied to the occupation an individual can do. Occupations are generally inherited and it is very difficult for somebody who was born into a certain class to change occupation by rising to another one.
The Farmers are the wealthiest and most powerful individuals, referred to as those "blessed with the gift of light". They own all the lands where cultivation is undertaken and they make good use of heavy machines and other automated equipment to work the land, since the Workers are not deemed worthy of being under the sun. The Farmer class lives an enviable life, as being able to live their whole lives bathed in sunlight is considered the most luxurious thing a human could dream of. They spend their days in orchards and gardens cultivating rare and precious species.
The Extractors are the people that own and operate the Qoam mines. They always have a booming business and they employ all kind of machinery and people to extract the precious crystal. The Industrialists hold the well guarded knowledge, technology and resources to build Qoam powered tools and machinery. They are driving forward society and are in high competition between each other. The Workers are the backbone of society, these people are employed in the most various activities around the City and are in a constant struggle to sustain themselves and their family. They usually do manual labor and menial tasks for the elites, that usually consider them as replaceable and dispensable. Some of them show more initiative and manage small activities in the region of eternal dusk to service other workers.
Lastly, the Seekers are elite soldiers that go outside the City walls to explore these lands trying to extract resources and find treasures. Due to the fact that the temperatures are cold and the constant darkness has strange effects on the mind, only a few people have what it takes to take this path. Almost anyone could become a Seeker, and joining the Organization is often seen as the only way for common folks to become a more respected members of society.
On the outer rim of the City perched just outside the City walls there are the headquarters, living chambers and hangars of the Organization. This rich and powerful entity manages expeditions to explore, excavate and scavenge the harsh and dangerous environment outside the wall.
The Organization has five Divisions specialized in different kinds of expeditions and environments. It employs skilled Seekers, heavy vehicles and machinery useful to harvest Qoam and other resources, as well as to help them to explore more deeply into the Regions. Most of the Seekers live outside the walls to prepare for the expeditions by adapting to the harsh conditions.
Seekers venture regularly outside of the City in small teams and convoys, to gather precious resources, hunt for treasures, scavenge ancient relics and to ensure that no monster threatens nearby. Recently, their work has become even harder. They discovered that a huge Colossus roaming the most remote regions is connected with Qoam. The being doesn’t seem directly aggressive but its presence seems to twist the planet spreading an illness everywhere it crosses.

Risks and challenges
This is our fifth Kickstarter campaign, during these years we’ve gained the expertise and know-how to confidently produce high quality games the way we envision them.
Nonetheless we’ve also learned production, quality control and shipping are delicate phases that can bring unexpected issues that may take some time to solve. For this reason the delivery date, May 2020, is an estimate. While we will do everything in our power to meet this date or even anticipate it, we are aware that slight delays are possible for reasons outside of our control. Also, exact delivery dates could vary depending on where you live.

By pledging for this project you accept the following terms:
-This is not a pre-order and the final product may be subject to changes and improvements from what is presented here to ensure smoother production and logistics. This includes every aspect of the game, from miniature design to artworks and layouts.
-We will only answer to support requests from our backers. If you got the game somewhere else (reseller, friend, group pledge, etc.) you will have to contact us through them.
-After 30 days from the delivery date to your door, we will not accept complaints related to the game box contents of this campaign (missing components, damaged components, etc.).
-After 6 months from the shipment date, we will not accept complaints related to the shipment of items of this campaign (damaged package, lost or missing contents, etc.).
-After 12 months from the shipment date, we will not accept any complaints related to this campaign.
-An order can be canceled and fully refunded before the end of the campaign by clicking on the applicable button on Kickstarter.
After the end of the campaign, the order can still be canceled within 14 days by sending us an email with your cancellation request. Please note that in this case the refund will not include the processing costs and Kickstarter fees, which will be deducted from your total. Apart from the cases specified here, the order is considered valid and is not refundable.
-It’s ultimately your responsibility to respond to our post-campaign survey to claim your rewards and to give us information about your shipping address and add-on choices. If you ignore our Last Call notification for more than 4 weeks we will consider your pledge a donation and we won’t be able to ship you a reward.
-One week after our Address Lockdown notification we will lock all your address and forward all delivery information to our fulfillment partners and this mean we will be unable to make any kind of change to your address. If you think your address might change during the delivery period we advise you to have the game shipped at another address you trust (friend, relative, workplace, etc.).
-If the game fails to arrive because of your mistake (wrong address, recipient absent, failure to pick up at courier/postal warehouse, etc.), any additional shipping/warehousing cost for us to re-send/re-deliver your game will be your responsibility. This also includes the costs associated with returning the game. If after investigation it becomes clear that the error was on our part, we will resend your package at our expense.
-If the package is lost, destroyed or damaged, the carrier will be held solely responsible. Any customer claim to the carrier needs to be made at the time of delivery, not later. If the package seems damaged, please ask the postal carrier to make you a receipt "accepted with reserve".
-Please note that we will not reship any game without first investigating what happened to the first shipment.
-If your game arrives with missing or damaged components, provide us with proof and we will substitute them once we have verified the damage.
-We currently have agreements with our fulfillment partners to ensure that no custom taxes will be charged for shipments in USA, EU, CA, AU. However if between the end of our campaign and the start of fulfillment governments decide to impose new tariffs or taxes about imports we might be forced to adjust to the new policies.
-If you live outside of the USA, EU, CA, AU customs taxes may be added. Please check your country's rules and regulations as this aspect will not be our responsibility.
