Hello Kickstarter - My name is Jeff Albee and I want to share a little bit with you about Tablet Table.
Mobile and handheld technology has become an integrated part of everyday life. Everyone carries a smartphone or tablet. We have access to the sleekest, lightest devices created to date. What most people do not consider is how this amazingly designed technology can be difficult to use for someone facing a movement disorder. Have you ever dropped your cellphone or your tablet? If you are like me, you have probably dropped yours in the last 24 hours. Imagine the frustration of being one of the forty-million handicapped people globally trying to use today's lightest, sleekest mobile devices.
TabletTable was created to help those facing movement disorders effectively use today’s technology. My niece, Hannah, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, inspired the design. My dad created the first TabletTable, made of wood in his garage, to help Hannah use her iPad. She needed something to keep the tablet connected to her wheel chair and we could not find anything on the market that accomplished what we were looking for. After seeing Hannah’s reaction to the TabletTable, and the way she was finally able to use her tablet, my dad handed over the design to me and tasked me with bringing this product to market.
While the development of this product has been an important personal journey because of Hannah, many other kids and adults who have tested and benefited from TabletTable have become the inspiration for bringing this product to the public. We hear story after story from parents whose movement disabled children have experienced improvements in their motor skills with the TabletTable. We have also seen the impact of putting TabletTable into the hands of the elderly, specifically in a nursing home setting. The height and angle gives the residents easy access to use a tablet and prevents the technology from being damaged.
Being handicapped does not mean your life has to stop. TabletTable enables those with a movement disorder to use today’s technology in a safe and efficient way. We are here on Kickstarter to ask you to join us in making technology accessible to everyone, no matter what limitations they may face. Whether you are backing this campaign because someone in your immediate family is affected by a motor disorder, or strictly for philanthropic reasons, you are personally putting this technology in the hands of someone who needs it. You are making their life better. Join us on this journey and help bring technology to everyone!
Our utility Patent and U.S. Trademark has been filed and we're sharing TabletTable across the country, having produced 4 of the fourth-generation prototypes you see in our project pictures. We get a thrill out of sharing TabletTable and love to see how it impacts people. We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from the:
- John's Hopkins Scleroderma Center
- Tennessee Technology Access Center (Nashville, TN)
- High Hopes Physical Therapy (Franklin, TN)
- Vanderbilt Physical Therapy (Nashville, TN)
- a Physical Therapy office in FL (Jacksonville, FL)
- First Steps Child Development (Nashville, TN)
- Grassland Middle School (Franklin, TN)
- Harris Hillman School (Nashville, TN)
- Waves Inc. Day Program (Nashville, TN)
- Friends from across the U.S. who have found us via social media and have tested TabletTable in their homes.
- and of course the inspiration for our project Hannah, who has Cerebral Palsy
Why we need you:
To go to Production. We are now ready for our first production run. Production is expensive, especially with the initial setup (a.k.a. “Tooling”). Your donation or pre-purchase will help defray the cost so we can bring this product to market.
To help us get the word out! Even though you may not need TabletTable there are millions of people out there who do...Please share our product with your friends & family!
To get TabletTable to people who need it! In testing TabletTable we have been amazed & humbled by how our product helps people of all ages. We've also seen how big of a need there is out there and we have built a list of individuals and organizations who need TabletTable. If you choose to support one of these people or organizations...you'll be doing something truly amazing for them.

Risks and challenges
We have been working on the TabletTable for about 2 years. I also maintain a 15-year career as a Technology Consultant for an multi-national engineering firm. Our challenges have included scheduling with suppliers and a steep learning curve in product production. Now that we have finished prototypes and have selected suppliers to produce, assemble and warehouse TabletTable, we are ready to tell them to get started! With your support and their expertise, we are excited to leave the prototyping phase and enlist the team we have assembled to complete our first production run!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
