We are Tabletop Wire, a website dedicated to tabletop industry news. While there are lots of journalism outlets for tabletop products, like reviews, play-throughs, unboxings, there are few places dedicated to telling the story BEHIND the industry.
We want to be that place.
Since November we have grown the website with news briefs and small stories. We have written about the manufacturing, finance, retailing, publishing, media and more. We have been to the GAMA Trade Show, and this August we will be at Gen Con.
Conventions, like these, are a great place to meet sources for stories. In fact, our 4-days at Gen Con are already packed with interviews from all sorts of people in the tabletop industry.
But, this kind of travel is not cheap. Our bill to attend Gen Con is over $1,000, and that is just for airfare and housing.
Spiel, in Essen, Germany is the epicenter of the international tabletop industry. We feel like we need to be there. Maybe you can help?
Here's the plan.
You help us get to Germany. We will use our time in Essen to meet and interview tabletop companies from all over the World. We will ask them about trends, mergers, tariffs, employment and more. We will ask them important questions about the industry and where it is going. We will seek out as many international connections as we can make.
We will then publish a group of stories we are calling: Tabletop Wire - Essen Edition. These stories will published before, during and after the show. We anticipate they will be done by December. And for helping us, we want to let you read the stories first.
We are going to keep this simple, so we won't have any stretch goals or fancy rewards. Here are the pledge levels. If we raise more money we will use it to hire local reporters and photographers to help us.
You have our gratitude. You will have access to our Kickstarter updates. We will also list you as an Associate Producer.

You will have access to our Kickstarter updates. You will also have early access to all the stories we publish. We will also attach your company logo as a sponsor to all the stories. We are limiting this to four sponsors. Sponsorship does not entitle you to any special coverage or consideration.
Risks and challenges
We've had good luck getting access to the tabletop top industry, but as a new website, we've can sometimes run into problems getting access to certain companies and organizations.
We already have all the equipment needed to spend a week interviewing in Germany. We will insure this equipment, but there is always the risk of theft or malfunctions.
We've travelled to Europe, and even Essen before, so we are familiar with the show, and how to get there. That said, there are always risks when traveling. There are flight delays and other problems that might impact our reporting.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
