Long ago humanity attempted to kill their gods. Now, hundreds of years later they are finally returning and are seeking revenge. Age of Awakening is an apocalyptic fantasy role-playing game designed to offer simple yet meaningful choices. The basics of play is simple, a player states their intent and the game master tells them the outcome. When their is a chance of failure or risk the player rolls a die relative to their skill; the greater your skill at a given task the larger die you can roll. 

 

When creating Age of Awakening I wanted to give a high amount of customization. Players choose between five different roles: the Soulcaller, Godborn, Arcanist, Alchemist, or Adept. Choose to master the various mystic forces present in the world, or to focus on mastery of physical skills as the adept, who gains their abilities from the skills they choose to focus on.

Advancement is organic, focusing on the individual. Players choose a specific goal for their character at each milestone. This goal gives them bonuses when they act on the principles of that goal, and also grants a permanent ability once they reach that adventure's milestone. Each player additionally receives a Game Master awarded trait in line with their actions. How you play your character directly influences how they advance.

 

Because choice is such an important part of the system, even those who don't specialize in combat can make a difference. The unique way actions are chained together and bonuses are stacked allow teamwork to be an effective method for overcoming obstacles; multiple skills can be used together to overcome a single task. How you attack should be just as important as who you attack. The way attacks are described give opponent's negative conditions that can be taken advantage of at later time. Combat was designed to highlight the players and their actions. Enemies don't take dedicated turns, rather they exploit player failures with their own abilities. This constant give and take means that every roll means something important, regardless of the result.

I've been hooked on role-playing games ever since I was introduced to them at the age of 12. Since then I've been active in both the writing and game design communities for several years when I decided I should combine them into my own role-playing game. I took what I know about story progression and effective writing and built a game around those concepts. Every aspect of the game has been designed to create a compelling story and to have fun doing it. Thanks for taking a look at my game, I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed designing it.
