About this project
Napoleon Bonaparte was an average-sized person who, at the turn of the eighteenth century, decided to create an empire across Western Europe and North Africa, as was the fashion in those days.
He was a highly skilled tactician who fought a number of successful military campaigns, and changed the face of geopolitical relations for ever. He could be a real jerk, and over-dramatic as well sometimes.
But there came this thing that unexpectedly happened to him where he was horrifyingly attacked by a horde of raging bunnies. Bunnies. Little big-eared fluffy things. Rabbits.
For real, you guys. He seems to have made some effort to really cover it up so nobody found out about it. I mean, wouldn't you if you were him?
Emma and Tabi are here to present a beautifully illustrated book depicting these (possibly sliiiiightly embellished) events within 38 pages. It's aimed at curious people of all ages who love the theme of bunnies gone a bit vengeful, and unusual historical events, and also possessing lovely little books.
Put another way, this project is about artistically capitalising on Napoleon’s petite faux pas (probably not good French at all).
In a sense such a story couldn’t be more timely. Many of us these days can relate to modern-day situations featuring terrifyingly bombastic and imperialistic personalities threatening ambitious and destructive international schemes.
In addition, of course, when such people suffer ironical twists of fate, it tends to be pretty enjoyable reading for the rest of us. Vive la révolution!
We’re using the money raised from this Kickstarter to create a print run of our book in landscape A5 size. Kickstarter is useful to gauge interest prior to creating the product, as we're working on kind of a shoestring and we want to make all the right decisions with producing our lovely book.
In addition to the fact, while Emma’s working on illustrations for this project right now, she's not able to focus on it full-time, due to a social phenomenon known generally as “needing to earn money to buy food”. This Kickstarter campaign is to give her the life, liberty and fraternity (I think) to do this!
We've also got a fab range of rewards available :) we've got stickers, sets of mini prints, necklaces, special commission spaces and original artwork!
Here's a handy breakdown and analysis of costs:
Money to Help Keep Emma Alive - £570 - 31% of goal
Printing - £475 - 26% of goal
Extra Rewards - £100 - 5% of goal
Emergency Funds (to iron out unexpected problems with delays or extra postage costs in case shipping prices rise, which honestly happens way more often than I'm strictly ok with) - £150 - 8% of goal
Tax - £370 - 20% of goal
Kickstarter fees - £185 - 10% of goal
£1850 total !
Also! We've planned some preliminary stretch goals in case we exceed our target!
If we reach £1950, our awesome friend Tom is making a pair of amazing limited edition badges for every physical order! Thanks, Tom!
If we reach £2050, we're creating special signed bookplates to go in every physical copy of the book!
If we reach £2200, we'll record an audio book version of the story and distribute digital files to every backer!
We've got solid product quotes, and we've got resources, and we're aiming for a really quick turnaround. With some money for rent, creating rewards and printing books, we've got a schedule for printing 'Bunaparte' by early January, and sending all rewards out to our backers by mid-February.
Plus, we've asked some of our amazing friends to help us with project rewards created right here in our home town! So if you love bunnies as much as we do, please take a look at some of the neat stuff you can pick up along our way to our funding target :)
Please do sign up for our newsletter if you’re intrigued but don’t have the money to back our project right now (I certainly know how that feels), or shoot us a message with any questions. Your interest in our project is very greatly appreciated!
Note: Something really interesting is that Napoleon Bonaparte was known as Bonaparte when he was a revolutionary leader; he became known as Napoleon only after he became Emperor of France.
We thought Bunaparte was a really catchy name for our project, but the story in our book actually takes place three years after he became widely known as Emperor Napoleon.
In short, our working title, while a hilariousl play on words, isn't strictly correct from a historical perspective. Hence it might change if we can think of something just as pun-tastic...
Another note: If we have over estimated the postage cost to you we shall get the difference back to you never fear!
Risks and challenges
This is a relatively straightforward project for us, as not only have we already done similar projects before, and we’ve got preliminary designs for rewards as well, but we’re producing nearly all rewards ourselves in-house.
This gives us tremendous capacity for rapid and cost-effective fulfilment.
So once we’ve got capital for those things, we can go get the materials and get to work immediately!
This gives us way more control and flexibility, and we can also get things turned around a lot faster, so you get your rewards a lot sooner. At present, we’re on track to getting all tiers shipped by the end of February 2017.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
