About

For a long time we've been reminiscent about a particular time period in the FPS scene, during the late 90s and early 2000s. Games were leaner, more player focused and designed with true creative intent by smaller more tightly directed teams, as opposed to mega corporations and design committees.

During this period all-time greats such as Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Quake 3 and Halo were all released within 4 years of each other.

For the past year and half we've put our time and money on the line, creating a game that can stand on the shoulders of the giants which came before it.

While we've made made a massive amount of progress during this time, our money has now run dry and so we turn to you, to help us finish this project and bring old school multiplayer FPS back!

Old school gameplay

Weapon pickups, powerups, map control, no aim down sights, longer than average time to kill, carry any number of weapons. These are just some of the mechanics and principles that give the game its classic old-school feel.

A dynamic, team-focused game mode

The arena is an ever-changing landscape of tactical decisions, as you're forced to attack and defend different areas all over the map based on where players are being frozen. Your priorities will constantly be stretched between fragging enemies, thawing teammates and controlling important weapons. Teams that work together will succeed here.

A fair playing field

No unlocks, perks, killstreaks or any other advantage that can be gained through time played. 

Skillful but accessible

The game is designed to have a low skill-floor and a high skill-ceiling. It's genuinely easy to jump into and enjoy, but has the depth to keep you hooked.

Casual and ranked matchmaking

Quick and easy to find balanced matches near your skill level. The game focuses on a single game mode which we hope will help keep matchmaking times quick. Having 10 game modes can often lead to a fragmented player base which we're looking to avoid.

Leaderboards & Ranks

To encourage competitive play, you'll always be able to see where you stand against players in your region and in your friends list.

Put simply we're a couple of gamers who have been lurking in the online FPS scene for nearly 20 years. We've both been working in the games industry for about 7 years each, starting in QA and then moving into project management. We met while working at Sega and have been friends since, playing together in most flavor of the month FPS games and spending a considerable amount of time playing in the Dirty Bomb competitive scene.

We've put together an online development team made up of super talented programmers, level designers, artists and animators. Some working with us full time and others acting as freelancers.

Most of the gameplay mechanics are already implemented to a high standard, so the majority of funds we're raising here will be used for the development of back-end features like matchmaking and leaderboards. We need to take the game we've created and turn it into a product that's ready for today's market. The remainder of the funding will be used on content creation so we can launch with as many maps as possible, and ensure all our assets are high quality.

Risks and challenges

Our risks are the same as most game Kickstarters:

1) Not budgeting correctly
2) Having to push back the release date
3) Releasing a game that's dead on arrival

In regards to the first two we've already developed so much of the game that we're not terribly concerned about this. We could release the game right now with some server binaries and you'd be able to play it, it's just not currently at the quality level we want and doesn't have key features like matchmaking.

In regards to number 3, if the Kickstarter is successful then there's clearly an audience hungry for this kind of game, who are ready to jump in and play. In addition we're confident that because the game is very accessible and will have skilled-based matchmaking at launch, there won't be a situation where top tier players destroy every new player and drive them away. Finally, because the game focuses on just one game mode, the player base will be concentrated into a single matchmaking system (split between regions) rather than being spread thin across many different modes. This should help create more balanced matches, keep queue times short and subsequently keep the player base healthy!
