About The Album"The future. Mankind has laid waste to its homeworld of Earth through pollution and warfare. From the ashes of society rises a new political order engulfing and uniting the scattered tribes of humanity across the globe. Their goal is the colonization of seemingly hospitable planets in a newly discovered galaxy.
This new album is a shift in style from the first and has a more heavy Sci-fi theme, tracks representing being aboard space ships or the emptiness and wonder of the void, to tracks like "Friendly Fire" which I feel is reminiscent of 90s video games like Starcraft.
So why should you pledge?
This campaign isn't just about getting a CD made, it's about bringing attention to the album and me showing that I'm doing what fans have asked for. I'm not in a position to make the merch that people are asking for unless I know that enough people feel the same way.
By pledging you're showing support for a bit of an outsider in the world of music, the album has something for everyone and it's important that through pledging and telling other people you know about the campaign that you're increasing my chances of being heard by the people that might like what I'm trying to achieve. Also, as you can see from the photos below, the actual CD will look freaking awesome and T-Shirts are always good, plus I think the prices are reasonable.
The Frontiers CD
Of course it would be cheeky of me to ask for you to buy a product you've never seen, so I've constructed a test print which you can see below (the quality of the real product will be much better, this is just done on an inkjet to test the print layouts etc).
I have to mention that the fantastic album artwork and my new logo (which you've already seen splashed around this page like a fine wine tasting class in the back of a moving van) was done by North East artist Craig James Gordon, I am so very pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to see it in CD format.
Please note that the CD itself on the test print is made out of paper, this will not be the case on the actual product, sorry for all those of you with paper CD players, you crazy bastards.
The internal booklet is still being designed, this is because I'm waiting on some additional artwork and still getting things like the thank you list together. Also I'd prefer to keep the contents a secret for the time being as the lyrics give a bit too much of the album plot away.
The Frontiers CD will be done by a local company I've been in discussions with, I've been to see them and checked out the quality of the product they can do and am confident that the CDs will look brilliant (although they wouldn't agree to let me set fire to their homes in the rare case that this was not the case, something about wanting to live or whatnot).
I know a few people who have been asking about these since the Ambients album came out so I've finally decided to swallow my pride and stick a toe in the merch pond. The T-Shirts will be black with a grittier variation of the new Synoiz emblem on them.
Now as with the CDs I had to get in touch with a lot of companies and work out who could deliver the best quality product with a fairly quick turnaround and a decent price. I had been recommended to a company who I had heard a lot of good things about, however when I contacted them they were insanely busy and doubted they could deliver the product. This made me sad.
So I contacted another company and asked them to do a test print of two sizes of the T-shirts but I was not happy with the quality as I want pledgers to this campaign to get the best quality possible.
Long story short I got a meeting with the first company and while they can't get me a test print to show here (the shirt shown is a mock up) they will be able to turnaround the job between the campaign end and the delivery date in October. I'm confident that these t-shirts will be amazing and you'll all be happy with them.
Please note that T-Shirts are in UK sizings, which may be different to yours if you're outside Europe. To make sure you're ordering the right size for you, consult the table below:
Extended Digital Download
This is very exclusive and this campaign will probably be the only time that this is available, or at least if it does get released at a later date you'll have had it months before anyone else.
Making Frontiers there were a few tracks that got to the later stages of development (even to mastering) and just didn't work and were dropped. I put one of these "Dawn" up for streaming on my Soundcloud a while ago however the others are totally unreleased. Also included are the spoken word segue tracks from the album without the speech over them, these are short but interesting little pieces as they allowed me to be a lot more flexible in my way of working as the music wasn't the real focus of the track. Finally there are instrumental versions of the "full vocal" tracks on the album in true Karaoke style.
Remixes + Custom Tracks
Also included in the rewards is the option to get a remix done by either Synoiz or long term collaborator and producer Ghostsmut. You can listen to some examples of our respective remix work on the players below however the rules for remixes are as follows:
- Any track can be remixed as long as stems can be provided, so this can be a track that you have made or a track by another band, however if you do not own the rights to the song you are not permitted to sell it or enter it in for competitions or such.
- The track title must include a credit to the remixer that is present in every instance that the track is used in.
- Be prepared for Ghostsmut to destroy your track.
One of the rewards allows for Synoiz to write a custom track for you, the way this works is that you'll be asked what kind of track you want and if you want any lyrics or such and we'll work from there. You will have periods where you can suggest amends and changes before you receive the final piece. We'll discuss the ins and outs of how to work together after the campaign.
Please note that due to our respective schedules, remixes and custom tracks will not be delivered until early next year.
So In Conclusion
Please show your support for my music and this campaign by pledging even just a little. If you don't care about getting a perk you can just pledge £1, if you're sneaky you'll notice that UK backers can potentially select a pledge level of £1 and the T-Shirt addon and only pay £11 for a shirt and a single track MP3 download (you cunning foxes).
Spread the word by clicking the share buttons to tell your friends on Twitter and Facebook and Email about this campaign and helping me out. Here's hoping that with your help we can reach the target for this campaign!
Risks and challenges
Well I've tried to make this campaign as risk free as possible, the company I've got for the CDs have ensured I will be satisfied with the product or they will do them again, and the T-shirt printers have years of experience in doing exactly what I'm asking. The only potential hiccups are that when the campaign ends, if we've reached our goal, I'll contact everyone and ask what addons or T-shirts sizes they want, if people don't get back to me quick enough then I may not get your items printed/posted in time for the album release on the 6th of October. Worst case you will still receive your things in October and the digital downloads included in your initial reward will be emailed out in the week after the campaign ends.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
