The Specialists Omnibus 1
A deluxe, hardcover volume collecting the first four chapters of the popular WWII superhero comic The Specialists
Born of dark magic and eugenics, the Nazi Übermenschen have brought Europe to its knees. Only Allied super-science stands between the Third Reich and total world domination, but only if eight exceptional people can overcome their differences and learn to fight as a team.
We've been publishing The Specialists on our website for over five years. Now we're collecting the first four chapters of our ongoing story into a deluxe hardcover book, but we need your help! Have you done your part... for VICTORY?
Al Fukalek (pronounced "few-COLIC") is a graphic designer from Cleveland, Ohio. Shawn Gustafson is a computer programmer from Westminster, Colorado. We've been collaborators since we first met in college, over twenty years ago. The Specialists is only the latest -- and greatest -- of our creations.
The book will be a handsome, large-format, hardcover volume, printed on heavy paper. In addition to the comic itself, we're packing it with bonus material, much of which has never been seen before, and an introduction by Ron Fortier, writer of Terminator: The Burning Earth and countless other comics and novels.
Limited Edition Bookmark
All levels that include the Omnibus will also include this limited edition Question Mark bookmark. It will measure approximately 2"x7" and will be hand-signed by both Al and Shawn.
Exclusive Golem Poster
If we reach $14,500, we'll commission DC, Marvel, and Milestone artist Arvell Jones to draw an 8-page Bombardier story, bringing the book's total page count to 292!
The Omnibus is going to be a big, heavy book — over three pounds! And that means that shipping is not going to be cheap. We've explored various strategies to minimize the shipping cost, but in the end, we weren't able to get around the simple fact that we're shipping a heavy object. Within the US, we can use Media Mail to reduce the cost, but unfortunately, that's not an option for international backers.
Because shipping is going to be a challenge on this project, and because it will vary wildly depending on where you live and what rewards you get, we decided not to include shipping in our pledge levels. Instead, we will charge backers for shipping after the campaign is over. (This will happen as part of the survey process.) We can't be sure exactly how much this will cost, but the following estimate will give you some idea. Please keep in mind that these are only estimates, based on current rates, and rates could change between now and when the rewards are shipped. (Note that all pledge levels of $70 or more require a poster tube in addition to the main package.)
- US: $8-$10 (+ $3 for poster tube)
- Australia / New Zealand: $34 (+ $10 for poster tube)
- Canada: $24 (+ $9 for poster tube)
- France: $34 (+ $10 for poster tube)
- Germany: $34 (+ $10 for poster tube)
- Italy: $34 (+ $10 for poster tube)
- Mexico: $30 (+ $9 for poster tube)
- UK: $34 (+ $10 for poster tube)
Risks and challenges
We've completed work on the book and other rewards, so all that's left to do is have them printed. We're working with PrintNinja, who has a proven track record, so the chances of delays or other problems with this project are very small. But there's always a chance.
Some of our stretch goals involve commissioning artwork from third parties, and that work has not yet begun. We've factored some time into our estimates to account for this, but it's possible that it could take longer than anticipated. There's also a chance that we could encounter delays in the printing or shipping process.
We promise to keep you informed about the progress of the project, especially in the event of any delays. Our first Kickstarter campaign was fulfilled within one day of our projection. We've been publishing The Specialists on our web site for over five years, and we've never missed an update. We're not going to let you down now!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
