"There's never really been a guitarist quite like Sylvia, not only in Hollywood, but anywhere." - The L.A. Weekly
"The thing about Sylvia Juncosa - the woman can play guitar. And she has a style all her own." - Music Connection Magazine
"One of the last of the true rock 'n roll wild ones" - Tip Magazine, Germany
Sylvia Juncosa is a unique figure in rock n' roll - a wild guitar bandit queen with serious skills, a tender singer with thoughtful lyrics, a restless soul who traveled the world. With a brash stage persona and an innovative musical style that bounds exuberantly between alternative rock, hard rock, psychedelic and '60's, Sylvia has been called "the female Jimi Hendrix". She first made a name for herself in the Los Angeles music scene of the 1980's, as one of very few bold, expressive and unique female guitarists of the time. During the '80s and '90s her career included two albums with her early band To Damascus, three solo albums under the name Sylvia Juncosa, an album with the SST band SWA, numerous compilations and guest appearances, and extensive touring of the U.S. and Europe, including a U.S. tour as the opening band for Soundgarden, until at last in the later 1990's she mysteriously disappeared from the public eye.
Now Sylvia is back, with a batch of strong songs and determined to make her best album ever. She is currently in the process of recording with one of the finest rhythm sections Los Angeles has to offer: on bass and backing vocals is Steve Reed (Legal Weapon, Carnage Asada), and on drums is Joe Berardi (Deadbeats, Double Naught Spy Car, Abby Travis) and John Montgomery (Virginia City Revival, Breakestra).
We ask for your help to get this project completed. Funding will cover completion of the recording, and pressing of CDs with nice packaging, lyric sheet insert, and fold out panels featuring photos and artwork. We believe the packaging should be like the LPs of the past, with a wealth of material to read and look at while listening to the album.
Risks and challenges
Anyone who knows our dear Syl knows that her greatest challenge is time management. Poor girl hasn't been punctual a day in her life. Ironically, what should typically be hardest part of any musical endeavor - writing epic riffs and killer lyrics, performing with a unique style and give-it-all-you-got passion, rampaging the world as a guitar goddess - for Sylvia, all that is the easy part. And she's been in the industry long enough to be able to successfully navigate through the typical logistical issues of putting out a record; dealing with printers and manufacturers and so on; issues that might typically be listed as challenges for any recording project. Getting the album completed by her self-imposed deadline, now that my friends is her real challenge.
That is why we have come to you with the project already well along, and tried to set a realistic time frame for completion. There is another factor in play, as well, and that is Sylvia's appreciation of her supporters. When you good people have funded this project, she ain't gonna let you down.
