About this project
We are Sybarite5 and we have a dream – to be the first string quintet to perform in all 50 states. As contemporary chamber musicians, taking influences from Mozart to Radiohead, we are expanding the platform for classical music.
In recent years we have performed extensively on the East Coast and in Aspen, Colorado, and developed wonderful fan bases there. Now it's time for us to take it a step further, and bring our music across the country and eventually overseas in order to change the face of chamber music.
We applied for two juried showcases at the Western Arts Alliance Conference in Seattle and the Midwest Arts Conference in Minneapolis. In Seattle there were 57 music entries. Sybarite5 was chosen as one of the four to perform. For the Arts Midwest Conference we had to compete with even more applicants to win a juried showcase.
By attending and performing at these conferences we will be able to meet and play for the presenters and venues responsible for bringing people like us to the West Coast and Midwest.
Transporting five musicians, a viola, two violins, a cello, and a bass across the country is no easy feat. Your support will contribute directly to these touring costs.
The money we raise does more than just get us to the conferences – it provides Sybarite5 with an unbelievable exposure opportunity. Not only will we be able to play for our Seattle and Minneapolis fans for the first time, but also we will reach new audiences. We will prove that chamber music can be dynamic and innovative.
This campaign is more than just a touring budget; it’s an opportunity to support a new kind of classical.
“The sad thing for this group is, there's almost nothing written for string quintet... the great thing is, there's almost nothing written for string quintet.” - Louis Levitt, The Aspen Times
"If you're looking for a worthy successor to the Kronos Quartet as a small string ensemble pushing the envelope of concert music, count this exciting gang of five as one excellent candidate." - Jon Sobel, Blog Critics Magazine
