Big Kickstarter Update!

Posted by The Swimming Pool Q's (Creator)

Hi again Kickstarter Backers! We're writing with an update and we have much to report:

Nearly everyone has, but we still have a few backers who haven't told us where to ship their rewards (including the bonus t-shirt we're giving everyone). If you're reading this now but didn't receive an email from us (and Kickstarter) with the survey link, please check your junk mail folders. We want to be sure everyone gets the rewards they deserve for being project supporters.

Production updates

Although it's taken longer than we expected, we are very excited to report that we have all clearances and approvals from Universal Music for both albums and our special edition release! Furthermore, the special edition packaging and CDs are in production! We hope to be able to ship these items, along with all the other rewards (except DVDs), in time for the holidays, and are crossing our fingers that we'll be putting postage on boxes in about two weeks. (DVD production, as you probably can imagine, is a more involved set of creative and logistical processes, and we expect to ship DVDs after the first of the year.) Posters, pins, flyers, 45s are all complete or in production. Here's a sneak peek! (By the way, we've decided to include flyers and pins in every backer's rewards package. Surprise!)

Mastering is complete on the BONUS CD and our t-shirt design is ready to go – we just need all surveys to come in so we know what sizes/colors to order. Last call for surveys is this week, then it's t-shirt time!

A THANKS JUST FOR YOU – Sneak Preview Download

Speaking of the bonus CD: as THANKS for your support and your patience with our efforts to coordinate this monumental project, we want to give just you Kickstarter backers another token of our appreciation – an exclusive sneak preview download of the "Pretty On The Inside" demo recording that will appear on the Bonus CD!

This is a never-released 8-track demo of “Pretty on the Inside” recorded in Atlanta on August 15, 1985. We cut this for our British producer Mike Howlett*, who had taken a Q break to work with The Alarm over the summer. He liked the song, and a more orchestrated version appears on our 1986 album Blue Tomorrow.

“Pretty on the Inside” is romantic folk-tale from the Black Forest set in modern Midtown Atlanta. Anne’s vocal dominates this humble presentation, which features an electric autoharp and a Robin octave guitar. The demo has a stanza that was dropped from the album version:

Stolen Hearts
Inside your head
Woven hearts
in my bedspread

*Mike Howlett played bass with the prog group Gong. He helped form an early version of The Police in 1977. Mike produced albums by Joan Armatrading, Martha and the Muffins, Gang of Four, OMD, Berlin, and he had great success with The Flock of Seagulls.

Enjoy! (And there are just enough downloads enabled for Kickstarter backers, so lets just keep this between us.)

As ever, you have our gratitude for your support and patience! Packages coming soon!

Stay cool,
The Swimming Pool Q's
