About

{Sweet Violet (Viola odorata) also known as the wood violet, can be deep violet, or white in color. In the Victorian language of flowers it can mean faithfulness, love, virtue, affection, and ‘let’s take a chance on happiness.}

Sweet Violet Bride was born from a love of botanical beauty, wild and cultivated, from woodland violets to garden roses. What began as a wedding blog for nature-loving brides is now evolving into a print + digital magazine as well, and we are so excited to welcome you to be a part of it!

Beginning with our premier Winter/Spring 2014 issue, Sweet Violet Bride Magazine will offer the best printed pages, showcasing stylish inspiration for modern, nature-loving brides, from real weddings & styled editorials to a natural beauty guide, DIY ideas, resources, and spotlights on cakes, flowers, gowns, stationery, venues, and more. Our pages will be as pretty as petals and though most of our content is from the United States we'll also have some gorgeous international features.

The Rewards:

In addition to copies of the magazine, all backers who pledge $50 or more will be receiving something pretty from Violette & Iris – aka, me. (yep, I’m a busy lady). I will be personally making your jewelry or bridal headpieces. I make these earrings and necklace from natural brass (nickel-free) and Swarovski crystal pearls. P.S. I'm wearing the earrings in the video above ; ) See more images of the earrings here.

These are just a few examples of headpieces I've made for brides. As a backer of $350 or more I will work with you to create a custom headpiece/s. Have a look at violetteandiris.etsy.com for more.

Frequency / Distribution:

Sweet Violet Bride Magazine will be a semi-annual publication (January & July). The approximate annual circulation for our first year (2014) is 25,000 magazines. They will be distributed across the U.S. through newsstands, bridal shows, and participating retailers. It will also be available on our website. It will be printed in the United States.

Who We Are:

Editor-in-Chief and Founder, Naomi Farr, is a creative publisher who has an endless love for weddings and all things pretty. After planning her own mountain wedding in August 2011 she found she did not yet want to leave the world of weddings. With an MFA in creative writing, she has been exposed to various aspects of publishing and started Sweet Violet Bride as a way to twine her passion for natural wedding details with her love of design and writing/editing background. Advertising Sales Assistant, Jordan Harris, is a fashion loving, wedding obsessed, love junkie who is still a newlywed herself. After planning her own wedding in September 2012, she knew that her eye for design and love of all things wedding didn't stop there. Jordan decided to start wedding planning to help other brides achieve their most special day. With a BS in Journalism from WVU, she had always wanted to pursue her dream of working for a magazine. She is so thrilled to be a part of the beautiful publication that is Sweet Violet Bride.

Risks and challenges

There are many challenges in bringing a new magazine to life, but I believe I am the right person (along with the many helping hands of my assistants/ contributors) to take on the job from conception through to publication. We have a printer and distributor in place and have already curated more than half of the content for our first issue which will hit stands January, 2014. We know the subject matter thoroughly and possess the expertise to design and produce the material effectively.

Our first print run will be about 12,000 copies, and will cost about $20,000. We're working hard to develop partnerships with quality advertisers to cover the cost of printing. Purchasing a print promotion through Barnes & Noble not only ensures that we’ll have a prime spot on the shelves of their stores nationwide, but encourages them to approve our title faster. Getting that front shelf spot in stores is vital to the success of our magazine – it enables stores to better gauge interest in our publication and for us to truly make a splash amongst the crowded shelves. The newsstand promotion costs about $8,000 and we are asking for $10,000 in order to cover kickstarter fees and materials for the backer prizes.

If by the ad reservation deadline (Sept. 5th 2013) we have not managed to raise enough funds in ad revenue to cover printing costs, you may see us here on kickstarter again – so if we go above and beyond with this campaign, we’d be most grateful! With your help through the Kickstarter program, we know we can accomplish the task!
