What is Sweet Ritual?
We are a local, women-owned ice cream shop in Austin, Texas that specializes in delicious alternative ice creams. Our dairy free creations cater to those with lactose intolerance, dairy allergies, gluten free diets, vegan diets, and anyone who enjoys ice cream. Our creative, delicious flavors come in a wide variety of bases, such as toasted cashews, coconut, almond, and sunbutter. We've won Best of Austin awards, and been featured on The Cooking Channel's Unique Sweets.
Why we're moving
After four years of sharing a space with an awesome local juice bar, Sweet Ritual is busting at the seams and ready for our very own space. We have signed a lease on a space just down the street in the Concorde Shopping Center at 4631 Airport Blvd and couldn't be more excited about what that means for the business!
- More production space which means more fun flavors and cool ice cream treats (like ice cream cakes!) as well as our products available at more local grocery stores
- Complete control over our retail space to give you the best customer experience
- Lots and lots of parking and great visibility
This is a big step to take for our business but we think it will be well worth it. We're so excited about being able to bring even more delicious vegan desserts to Austin. We're hoping that this new space will also allow us to work on some exciting projects we've been dreaming of, including ice cream classes for home cooks and eventually a cookbook!
What the money is for
We're raising funds for all aspects of the move and construction of the new space. Specifically, we estimate:
- Walk in freezer: $20,000
- Building construction: $15,500
- Electrical: $4,300
- Mechanical HVAC: $6,100
- Plumbing: $17,600
- Permitting and fees: $500
- Shelves and tables: $5,000
- Signage: $5,000
- Architectural and engineering: $3,000
- Moving: $1,000
- Interior decor: $1,000
- Case packaging for wholesale: $2,000
This adds up to $81,000, much more than we're asking for on Kickstarter. We've already raised some of the funds through loans, our own personal contributions, and savings from the business but we need your help to make this a success. We have been so grateful for the love and support of our customers and fans throughout our four plus years, and we're excited to thank you for your support in our biggest endeavor yet.

Risks and challenges
This is definitely the riskiest move we have made as a business yet, but we feel fully prepared to meet the challenges. With any new construction project there are bound to be unexpected delays and costs, and we have taken that into account in our budgeting. We have some other, higher cost, backup sources of funding lined up should we need them for unexpected expenses. We have a friendly relationship with our current landlord and so should be able to have a minimum of business interruption during the move.
We have been in the business for over four years and so do not anticipate any big surprises in running the business in the new space. Our set up will be similar to our current layout so business should run very smoothly after a week or two of adjustment. We have one of our strongest ever teams of employees and feel ready for the anticipated increase in business.
Our biggest anticipated challenge is making sure that existing customers know about our move and that new customers can easily find us. To address this we have a full PR campaign lined up, with physical, digital, and relationship-based strategies for getting the word out starting immediately and repeating the message until our new location opens. We also feel that our new location will increase traffic from new and out of town customers due to increased parking, better visibility, and more adjacent complementary businesses.
In terms of permitting, we have done as much work as possible ahead of time communicating with the city permitting offices to insure that our plans will be approved. We have already been approved by the Health and Industrial Waste departments and are awaiting approval by Building in the next 2-3 weeks. Even if minor adjustments are required we should be able to begin construction by March and expect to be open before June 1.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
