I've been trying to make this record for years, I really have. I got sidetracked, for reasons good and bad, but now here it is, recorded, mixed, mastered and ready to be manufactured. All it needs now is your involvement.
One of the good distractions was the birth of my son. When he came along in 2007, I decided that in order to be a good father, I needed to make some major adjustments to my life. Chose to take a break from focusing on my music full time, and devote my time and energy to raising this cool little person.
I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him, so that when the time was right to resume working as a touring musician, he would know how much I loved him, and hopefully understand why I had to go on the road for a few weeks at a time.
Now the time is right to finally resume my music career, but I can't use the same model as before. Times have changed, and the old cycle of record, release, and tour when the label was able to promote us, just won't work for my personal situation. Since my 1st priority is now my son, I need to be able to work around our schedule, not that of a record label. I must be able to release albums and go on tour when it's right for my family. And to do that, I need your help.
I'm extremely proud of this album. It was the hardest and most honest one I have ever made. For a few years, I was using my son as an excuse not to write and record. Was extremely depressed and unhappy unless we were together, because when we were apart I was afraid to make music. Subconsciously, I knew that starting an album was the first step to leaving home, which I was terrified of doing. While my relationship with my son grew strong, slowly I lost an important part of myself. It took a long time to realize that I couldn't be what I wanted to be for my son, if I ignored who I was to my self. So I started writing again.
7 years, 3 studios, and 2 engineers later, the album While Laughing, The Joker Tells The Truth, is finished. It was produced by myself & the amazing Rick McPhail (Tocotronic/Glacier of Maine) at the Upper Room in Hamburg in 4 weeks of afternoons, with additional recording at my home studio Cardboard Skyline (1st in Berlin then in Hamburg)
The cover art was designed by William Schaff
The album is mixed and mastered, and only needs to be manufactured. Before, these costs would have been covered by the record label, but this time I am footing the bill. Only with your support via Pre-Orders will I be able to release this album.
I believe I've come up with some cool rewards packages, but feel free to make suggestions. I want to get the album to you and into record stores in March 2014. I'm ready to start playing shows to support the album. But I need your help!

Risks and challenges
I guess the biggest risk is that my feelings will be hurt and my ego severely bruised if this campaign is not successful.
But seriously folks, the album has already been recorded, mixed and mastered and only needs to be manufactured.
Therefore, there is no risk, as Kickstarter is an all or nothing venture.
If your Pre-Orders make this a successfully funded project, the album will immediately go into production, which usually takes 4-6 weeks.
The Digital Download Reward links will be emailed immediately, and as soon as the vinyl, cds and tshirts are manufactured, they will be bundled and shipped.
Of course the phone calls will commence the day the campaign ends.
The challenge of course will be making all those phone calls,
but I really hope i get to call a few thousand of you.
If you have questions, you can email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
I thank you for your support, and hope our paths cross sooner than later...Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
