      Matt,
Thanks for the comment. We're bummed about the slow progress, too. We've been reevaluating our project plan, and have found some great domestic manufacturers who are willing to work with lower minimum orders. They also are willing to work with us on some clever tooling. With this, we should actually be able to launch for more like $3000-5000. This should be achievable.

Our current plan is to cancel this project, and relaunch it with a new, lower goal. We really want to share Nectar and Elixir with the world, and are excited to have a new opportunity with a lower cost of entry.

Thanks for the ideas, and the encouragement. We are excited about the relaunch in the next week or two. We'll definitely send an update to all our backers with the details so they can re-pledge.

      Thanks,
      Jon

I'm thinking this might be the first project I've backed that may very well fail, and I'm bummed to see that but one thing struck me when I was pledging and might be worth considering if you try again: the pledge levels were seemingly low for a higher overall project goal. In other words, with lots of other projects, you have to give at the $50 or $100 level to start getting something back you'd really want, and I found in terms of seat clamps I only needed one for a city bike and $20 covered it, but getting 15k in $20 is no small task.

Is there any way you could do the entire project for 5k or less if you backed off the quick release (honestly, I haven't seen a QR clamp on a bike in 10 years) model and maybe reduced the number of colors or something?

      BMark,

Thanks for your feedback. I'm confused, though. You ask if we've ever opened a beer sideways. Well, in the video we open 7 beers sideways, and as you can see, it works fantastically! We've done tons of testing, and Nectar and Elixir are super easy and intuitive to use. Grab your bike, grab your beer, open, and enjoy!

You guys should take to heart the comment from El Snobarino regarding the orientation of your bottle opening apparatus.... For real. Have you ever opened a beer sideways? Why start now? Get it set vertically, or don't waste your, and our, time.

      Michael,

This is great feedback. Thanks for the ideas. We're actually working on a blog post right now to discuss this post publicly. To be honest, we actually sent our press release to Bike Snob NYC early on, knowing that we would be harshly criticized (this is, after all, what The Snob does.) The idea was to get some seriously critical feedback to see if we had missed any major features in the design, and to get some publicity. Hopefully we'll be able to get a dialog going with The Snob, and it will work out for everybody.

Besides, at Swarm we believe that good design is polarizing. Strong reactions mean that we've touched a nerve! They say that any publicity is good publicity.

      Thanks,
      Jon

I've pledged, but have a comment. You were recently mentioned on Bike Snob NYC, in not the most favorable fashion. Perhaps by addressing some of his concerns, you might create 'buzz' and 'dialog' or whatever publicity is called these days.

Also, as a roadie, I like the Nectar, as would most roadies. We can operate Allen wrenches. Roadies are the opposite of fixie riders. Perhaps you might 'tune your message' a bit to be more inclusive of more cyclists that don't feel an association with either PBR or tweaking.

Please take this in the spirit it is intended, to get hit the goal of $15,000 and get them made!

You guys rock! It is super fun to get emails saying, "New backer alert!" It makes us feel like we aren't crazy for thinking that every bike should have a bottle opener on it! Cheers!
