About this project
We've got 3 more days on this Kickstarter and a lot of big ideas. If we raise over $13,000, we'll be able to give an additional record to all our backers who have contributed $30 or more!!
An exclusive 10" colored vinyl EP of some super special music. Something like the picture below, only not the band Rush and not this art...so basically, not really like this at all, but kind of sort of a little bit:
So if you haven't pledged yet, now's the time!
And if you already have, tell your friends and family and passing acquaintances! Increase your current pledge! Or get wild and do both!!
Exciting times! Thank you again for everything!
...we just finished our new album and it's a big one—over an hour long, which means it will be a bona fide, real deal, honest-to-goodness double album (!!). That's right, this thing's going to have TWO RECORDS up its sleeve. And that's why we're doing this Kickstarter: to raise the funds needed to press the album to vinyl!
The album's title? There's No One Here. I know, right?? (⊙.⊙)
Now, people say this all the time, but we genuinely mean it: this is our best album yet. (Be sure to check out the song clips in the weird sensationalistic video up above.) We're really proud of this album and super excited to get it into your hands!
Once again, we had the privilege of recording at Stu Stu Studio with our pal Ryan Power, who is simply the best of the ultra-best. He makes everything taste better.
And as if that wasn't enough, a bevy of barrel-busting guests collaborated with us on this project, namely: Andrew Moroz (trombone), Kalmia Traver (saxophone), Bryan McNamara (saxophone), Brett Lanier (pedal steel), Matt LaRocca (viola), and a handful of kids.
The album is already mastered and it sounds sweeter than maple syrup—which, as Vermonters, means a lot!—thanks to Timothy Stollenwerk at Stereophonic Mastering.
Another thing we're simply giddy about is that the vinyl is going to be pressed locally—right here in Burlington—by our kickass comrades at Burlington Record Plant!!
Design guru and crusher-of-marathons, Andrew Lakata, who was responsible for the next-level aesthetics of The Next Instead, will be pulling all the strings together and tying it up into a mouthwatering piece of tangible beauty, featuring the breathtaking photography of Shem Roose and Michael Heeney.
Here, check out this Sinéad O'Connor song we recorded during these sessions (it's not on the album):
So yeah, this is where you come in! With your help, this campaign will take all the awesome stuff mentioned above and turn it into a vinyl reality: a beautiful double album that's as much a joy to listen to as it is to look at and hold.
You can think of this as essentially a pre-order, only it's a pre-order with loads of sweet amenities. A pre-order on steroids.
Three years ago, we ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund the pressing of our album The Next Instead, and the response was tremendous—the project was fully funded in 30 hours and went on to raise more than 2x what we'd asked for! We were blown away!! All the additional money went directly into beefing up the project, most notably adding a second LP of remixes by some of our favorite artists and friends, such as Zack Martin, Ryan Miller, tooth ache., Paper Castles, Jason Cooley, and Greg Davis.
And we are so very pumped to do this all again!!!
Check out this collage of pictures from people stoked on what we sent them!
All the Old Stuff?
Every pledge of $25 or more receives digital downloads of all of our albums! Not just the new album, There's No One Here, but all our previous releases: three full length albums (The Next Instead, Direct Inbreds, A Small Arrival) and three EPs (Kiss Mess, Waterlanding, Verdigris)—that's a lot of music!!!
Take a look at what our friend Sarah Letteney cooked up for us. Fact: this is the best t-shirt design since FRANKIE SAY RELAX! Our friends at SunOfABirch Screenprinting will be printing these on luxuriously soft shirts from Bella + Canvas. They'll be available in both men's and women's style tees.
We're not sure what the art will be yet, so we can't show you what it's going to look like. We can tell you that they're going to be hand-printed by us at Iskra Print Collective. We can tell you they'll be numbered and signed. And look, we can show you what the screenprint we did for the last campaign looked like:
Don't worry, it will NOT look like this...or will it?
Swale + Karaoke = SWALEOKE
Camping Adventure aka Swalmping?
Swale + Camping = SWALMPING
This could be you!
Here's a rough prototype of the official certification:
Talk about videos, our band's got 'em!
Risks and challenges
We've already recorded, mixed, and mastered the record, and the album art is THIS CLOSE to being finished—it's safe to say we've minimized potential obstacles and mishaps that could delay this project. However, we would be dumber than we look if we told you that we were certain that nothing will go wrong.
What we are certain of is that (a) if anything happens to slow down the process we'll tell you immediately, and (b) if this campaign gets funded, this thing is happening NO MATTER WHAT.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
