Svaha Inc. is an effort in a direction that will confront the gender stereotyping and empower children to embrace their passions. As mothers, as informed individuals, and as apparel professionals, we want to make a contribution to our children's futures. We want to facilitate and provide the girls of today with choices to be able to wear fun STEM themed t-shirts, t-shirts with female athletes, firefighters, and scientists on them, and many more! We also want boys to be able to wear the colors and designs they like.
It may sound ambitious, but we want to start a revolution in the children's apparel industry. We think there are enough like-minded people out there to help us achieve our dream - but more importantly we want to help future generations of children recognize and act upon their dreams.
What Got Svaha Started?
Jaya’s 3-year-old daughter, Svaha, wants to grow up and be an astronaut. She has wanted to be an astronaut ever since she could say the word. The reason she wants to be an astronaut is because she wants to blast off into space and see the rings of Saturn up close! It is not a passing thought; she's been on it for over a year now. As any supportive parent would do, Jaya wanted to find ways to encourage her daughter’s dreams. She took her to the National Air and Space Museum so she could see a real space shuttle, read her stories about real astronauts (such as Sally Ride and Kalpana Chawla), and showed her pictures of the moons of Saturn. Svaha’s imagination soared & her dreams grew bigger & bigger!
Then came the inevitable request - Svaha wanted a T-shirt with an astronaut on it to showcase her love of space. Jaya started looking for one . . .and looking . . .and looked some more. She was shocked to discover that she could not find a single girls’ T-shirt with an astronaut! Svaha also wanted a T-shirt with Saturn on it. Jaya had yet another fail trying to find one and ended up buying boys’ T-shirts for her daughter. This prompted her to look for other themes Svaha wanted to wear and were missing from the market. She knew she had to fill the gap for her daughter, and for all of the other little girls with big dreams! And so, Svaha, Inc. was born!
Jaya decided to team up with 2 other mothers, who are also apparel professionals, and are determined to create apparel that will inspire all children to follow their dreams. We have created the following sets of designs that are fun, vibrant, colorful, and destined to put a smile on the face of a little girl who is special to you!
When I Grow Up: These T-shirts feature baseball players, astronauts, and firefighters to teach girls that they can aspire to be anything they want to be!
Things I Love: Boys can’t have all the fun! These shirts feature diggers and dinosaurs to show girls that it is okay to like anything that peaks their interest.
STEM For the Win! : These shirts feature themes to celebrate & encourage a love of Science (Chemistry experiment with flowers), Technology (Robot kicking the football), Engineering (Bike made of gears), and Math (Monster truck made of geometric shapes) and help cultivate your little one's big dreams!
Just so we can show you what else we plan to do with our line, we are adding two dresses as a part of our rewards.
Now we need your help! Unfortunately nothing in life comes for free and we need funding to be able to develop high quality designs, manufacture exceptional quality cotton T-shirts, and deliver it to the girls out there who need to be inspired! Over time, we want to expand the line to include bodysuits, shorts, leggings, socks, underwear, skirts, and dresses, and home goods such as sheets and towels. We also want to cater to babies and older girls, and create a line for boys.
The time is now! Do you want to be an agent for change? Do you want to break down the gender stereotypes that exist in children’s’ apparel? Do you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself? We thought so! Help us start a revolution, one T-shirt at a time, by contributing to our Kickstarter.
This is fantastic! How can I help?
Great question! We knew you were a smart cookie! Look over to the right. You will see some awesome rewards to thank you for helping us continue our mission. After you contribute, spread the love! Share our Kickstarter video everywhere you can think - Facebook, mom’s groups, science club, play in to a stranger while in line at the grocery store, etc. because we need your help to make this a reality!
What if I have boys?
Well you’re in luck! All of our STEM designs are available in boys’ t-shirts! If that’s not gender neutral, we don’t know what is!
What if I don't have kids?
There has to be a special kid in your life who would love one of these t-shirts! Niece? Nephew? A friend's son or daughter? If there really isn't anyone, our STEM shirts also come in ladies' adult sizes!
Why are you only making t-shirts & dresses?
This is only phase 1 of our master plan! In order to launch the company, we didn't want to get overwhelmed with the number of products we are carrying. We needed to make sure we could fulfill all of the rewards we are promising, and we felt like t-shirts were the easiest way to showcase our potential. Once we get funded, we will be moving on to bigger and better things, all guaranteed to delight!
What are your future plans for the Svaha line?
Another great question! We're not going to stop at t-shirts and dresses! Have you ever tried to buy sheets or towels for a little girl who loved science or sports? What about underwear for a little girl who loves dinosaurs? We're guessing your search came up short, so we plan to fix it! Don't want to dress your baby up like a princess? Are you bored with pink leggings? Well we've got you covered! Once we get funded, here is a preview of what is to come from our line of apparel & home goods: http://www.svahausa.com/catalog/
What will the money you get through Kickstarter be used for?
Risks and challenges
We're pretty confident about our ability to quickly manufacture the apparel and get it out to people who want to follow their dreams. We have years of industry experience, we're well connected to quality factories, and we have operations & fulfillment expertise as well.
The only thing that may stop us from being able to make this a success is if little girls stop liking dinosaurs, STEM, and firefighters. Since we do not believe that is going to happen, we think we're safe!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
