Hey Everyone! I'm singer/songwriter Suzi Brown!
By following my passion and dedicating myself to my art, I now have enough new songs that I am ready to record my debut full-length album, and I couldn’t be more excited!
I've managed to catch the attention of a producer by the name of Pier Giacalone, whose credits include producing and engineering for Regina Spektor and Sloan Wainwright among many others. Pier has a BFA in composition and has been recording and mixing music for 20 years now, mostly out of New York City. Among the all-star cast of musicians I have assembled are heavyweight veterans: Rodney Holmes on drums, credits include Santana, Steve Kimock and Robert Randolph, and John Jorgenson on guitar who has performed with Bonnie Raitt and Elton John among many others. Also onboard I have Arne Wendt who has played with Bon Jovi, Rob Thomas, Noel Redding!
In attempting a work of this magnitude without the combined support and restrictions of a record company, I am appealing to you incredible fans and my extended family to help lift me up and see me through.
The old paradigm of a record company swooping in and covering expenses – in return for massive debt and creative restrictions – is gratefully long gone. With your support, I can bypass the army of lawyers, agents, record executives, and other obstacles to creativity that have always hampered new artists as much as they have helped. I’m asking you to directly help fund my creative endeavor in whatever way, large or small, you are able. Naturally I would not expect anyone to help someone who would not help themselves so I have worked hard to save as much as I could to fund this project myself. However the opportunity has arrived to work in the right place with the right people and the time to strike is now. This is why I am appealing for your help in this project.
I'll be clear: I've saved about $7,000 myself. The total production cost including reproduction will be $12,000. This includes everything from the recording studio to the producer, players, mixing, mastering and manufacturing. Pier has worked with me to craft the most cost-effective means of creating this album to the professional standards I hold for my work.
Here is where you come in! I have diligently broken down the various expenses of this project and worked out the logistics to the smallest detail to make sure your donations are used as efficiently as possible.
Here is a general breakdown of expenses:
$7,000 covers both studio rental and producing/engineering services. This is the largest single expense and covers both the recording and mixing phases of the production.
$3,000 for professional studio musicians. I have some intensely talented people lined up.
$500 for CD mastering, the final stage of production where the sound is still being manipulated. This is done by a specialist in this field, Tom Volpicelli at The Mastering House.
$1,500 covers design/duplication of CDs at Discmakers, the industry leader for more than 25 years.
5% of this will cover the Kick Starter fee, the only administrative cost of the entire process. (This is where it would be nice to raise a little more than my goal :).
In addition to my eternal gratitude, I have designed a list of special thank-you prizes as well. See the list on the right side of this page >
In terms of schedule: production starts with Rodney Holmes recording on March 17/18 along with Dan Lucas on Bass and Joe Cheng on Fiddle! The deadline for the overall production is May 1. In addition to the many contacts I've made in promoting my career, Pier will be sharing the CD to the wide array of industry contacts he has collected over the years as well.
My music has always been an expression of my hope and faith in humanity’s ability to change and to challenge each of us to face our greatest challenges and demons—whether they be addiction, adultery, or putting an end to abuse. I have personally worked to stem to the flow of human trafficking in South East Asia, and it is experiences like this that inform my heart and ultimately get expressed through my music. It’s my hope to create a full circle by using my music to inspire others toward positive social change.
My Music is inseparable from my work. It expresses my hope for a better world. Please join me on my mission!
Much love and thanks!
